  1. We have a similar system on the local authority where I work, fitted to our four wheel drives they really are a good bit of kit with a hopper on the load bed spreading rock salt ours are electro/hydraulic lift and swivel, a word of caution though fitting a plough on your vehicle alters the handling like you would not believe, and would make your insurance void
  2. An axe or a maul, no punctures off the many nails either
  3. This past winter the local authority I work for bought three blades to fit on Mitsubishi 4x4 crew cab pickups, along with mini gritter bodies for the load bed, the blades are electro hydraulic and can be swivelled left or right and obviously up and down. The ones we have are of American manufacture and supplied by a coachbuilders in Cardiff, one point, they do not fit wheels for ploughing but sacrificial wear pads, adjustable with nothing more sophisticated than washers and split pins, the bottom wearing edge of the blade is a hard plastic adjustable for wear. The mounting is incredibly simple, just a cross member bolted under the front valance and a inch and a quarter square tube to receive the male tube fitted to the plough, power and control wires simply plug in with normal trailer plugs. A cracking bit of kit for anyone, with say, a transport yard or farm track access they got a lot of use here in the valley's on our steep side streets
  4. I shut roads as part of my highways maintenance job, i get fed up asking people, one, "didnt you see the large road closed signs surrounded by cones?" two "are you literate in the English language" so you have absolutely no chance with just a hi vis vest and as for pulling cars out of floods i gave up on that when they started driving through them on purpose to soak a usually already soaked and p******ed off workman, PS for anyone tempted that is now a moving traffic offence and will get the offender a fine and endorsements
  5. The problem is it's annoying gibberish masquerading as "modern speak", sorry if that offends ps masquerading means pretending
  6. As part of my job with our local authority i clean down paved areas, brick and masonary walls of algae, emulsion paint, [you cannot shift gloss] chewing gum and with approriate chemicals graffiti, occasionaly we have done war memorials in the run up to November the eleventh, i use the pressure washer off my medium volume jetter and as i can monitor the use with a sight glass on the admittedly four thousand litre tank i can tell you that they dont use exorbitant rates of water at all. the biggest problem we get with paviors laid on sand is blowing the sand out of the joints and the subsequent displacement, however you can then offer another service, that of putting down kiln dried sand this is used as a weed surpressant as well as a joint filler, a small bag goes a very long way when swept in with a soft broom. An offshoot of this type of business is run by a lad that worked with me years ago he cleans down plant, caravans, boats anything anywere basically A good size of tank is those thousand litre plastic tanks in a tube frame, a bakery near me will give them away as they are one use only in the food industry apparently i personally would approach your local authorities, supermarkets, petrol stations etc do few square yards as a free demo, believe me the contrast is spectacular especially on natural stone and brick paviors. Hope this is useful and good luck with whatever you do
  7. Head problem in South Wales go to JSE St Davids ind est Pengam [near Blackwood] no connection with me but a damn good reputation
  8. put the gear box into a gear then push it in while wiggling the flange, assuming you have centred the clutch plates correctly of course
  9. "didnt see one copper for a hundred miles" then thats a shame, then to boast about it and post pictures, all those thousands of people, men, women and children you passed on that hundred mile trip can count themselves lucky you didnt involve them in a terrible accident "we thought about it a lot" so obviously you were aware of the danger and still carried on, Trendkill seems approriate somehow
  10. which model and engine is a good starting place
  11. i have the same one with a different name, SIP, not bad at all with the smaller rods but it does tend to let the smoke out quite quickly using heavier rods oh and you will definately need a welding mask/helmet as the one with the welder is pants
  12. if its your daily drive why would you want to lift it? in fairness Freelanders corner very well and have good clearance, also dont forget you are obliged to inform your insurance company of any modifications it will put up your premium for sure, and if you dont and you have to claim, or are claimed against you will find yourself uninsured and liable
  13. I had a similar problem, i had a local mobile tuner come out he put his handheld on but could find no faults so he tried a little trick, through his computer he activated the ABS solenoid, i drove it up the road and it was fine, please make sure you try driving it before you think its failed as you need to get over a certain speed before lights will go out
  14. i changed the front [nose] mounting on mine in february with nothing like the dismantling illustrated, ran her up on ramps undid the two bolts into the diff, undid the bolt through the mounting, wiggled the old one out, the new one practically fell in absurdly easily, i had it back for MOT retest in fifty minutes after booking her back in, didnt need to change the side mounts as they were in good nick. if i remember correctly it cost me £26 from Bearmach Bedwas depot, the side mounts are a fair bit dearer for some reason
  15. lets hope no one from VOSA or customs and revenue access this forum we used to put a small percentage of paraffin in the diesel in the winter as it eased waxing at low temperatures, as stated above it burns at a much higher temp and would cause the exhaust manifolds to glow white, god knows what it does to the exhaust valves
