  1. Oy just did mine! -does that put me in this bucket? 🤔🤣 Very doable only thing needed to make it work outside the doner was power to the loom and a bod of soldering as we moved the 10as to sit beside the ecu. after all, a td5 defender isn't really that highlevel computerwise 🙂 Although reusing as much as possible from the donor (90->110) all the small parts quick count up the pennies. I am still "stuck" with an elderly engine and I found myself in the workshop just yesterday mending the fan pulley bearing... BUT it is a nice engine that transforms the car (was a 2,5td and 300tdi for many moons) and I regrett not doing it sooner (another td5 engine have been living in the workshop for 7 years but this one turned up on just the right point, or my mate put the donor car in a tree on just the right point in time 🙄) But it took some time getting it fitted and timewise a Renovation of the/a 200tdi will be far faster. /mads
  2. That front corner is where the oil to the valvetrain is pumped through so it does sound like the HG isn't letting it through maybe by being the wrong way around/the hole through not present in the HG. If the HG is a multilayer then there might on top be the problem, that the bung holding the layers together have been squashed between the head and the block with it being the wrong way around, leaving a small distance in which the oil can move... a mate did this once, thats how I know.. 🙂 /mads
  3. A couple of years ago, I was making "long postponed maintenance" in the depth of -15c (some time you get proud of yourself....) doing so, I dropped a 19mm spanner on the concrete paving and it snapped in two with a very high "pling"... the spanner was a reputable make. At the time the only reason I could come to was the temperature. Of course my dad pointed out, that I ought to use it faster next time, to get some heat buildup into it... 🙄 /mads
  4. When on my mates two post, we lift 110's on the rear radius arm brackets and on the chassisrail just in front of the front radiusarm branket. Works on both 90 and 110's and they are ok stable this way even if engine is removed as part of the work carried out. 🙂 /mads
  5. Great! Getting the Cruise to work on my recently fitted td5 was one of the "to-do's" of this winter, so I am looking forward to see your findings. My initial plan was a transducer cut into the speedocable as on my TerraFirma (in the other car) but your way could prove even better/cheaper/easier. So please keep up the posting/playing with it 🙂 /mads
  6. The glowplugs goes to the other terminal with a screw. If you se closely you should be able to follow the metal in the plastic. Comming to think of it, if you connected the live wire to the wrong one, you will be feeding all the other fuses reverse and the will "go out" when the 100A fuse is removed... sure it mounted is the right way around? 🙂 /mads
  7. I just did the swap from a 300 -> td5. The consumption is approx the same (10 km/l) although the td5 is better on long runs (I swapped to 1:211 gearing at the same time, but that is NOT advisible with towing in mind). My parents run the same gearbox setup in a 90 td5 and it is lighter (11km/L). On long towing runs (3500kg trailer through europe) it runs 8,5 km/l (the 90). I did the switch as my 300 develloped strange noises and my yearlong td5 "under the bench" project was moved forwards. I choose a td5 as I know they are tuneable to an OK degree (180 ish hp) without major mods and they are original found in defenders later on which here in DK is a bonus regarding MOT. I used the 300 gearbox crossmember and welded new enginemounts. But I happened to have a mate who ran his td5 into a tree so all the small connectors and parts (gearbox) was available. So a donor car Def./disco is a great Thing. The easiest/most timeeconomical is a recon/do-up of a 200 no doubt. /mads
  8. If you have a locking pin in the crank then turn the cam to its mark, and from your pictures it seems like the belt will fall into place? As fmmv says, they will run pretty much out of timing, but the difference in output is big 🙂 /mads
  9. I mounted a d3 rearset years ago, and it has helped with the seat angle and footroom... but not perfect. I have always thought, that if one could cut holes from behond into the seatbox under the front seats/make a flatterende floor in the cabin, then there would be perfect foot/leg room... I just haven't gotten around to do/try it yet 🤣 Before the d3 seats I had the three pice type seats. On these I mounted two pieces of angle between the seatback and the base moving the back some 8 cm rearwords. That did help on the space, but again not perfect. (Maybe perfect actually doesn't exist?🥶) /mads
  10. Strictly speaking from reading your post, are you actually not just rebuilding the 85 with its own parts, which have been borrowed to the 86 for some time more than rechassissing the 86? Not bring from UK I can not help with the legal side, but it sounds straight forward. /mads
  11. There is a night and Day difference in the dieselpurgability (errr, is that a Word?) On a 12j and a 300. A 12j can be a person I'm not that keen on! Back in the Day I started with not doing the filter all the way up, free flow then do it up and use the vent on top of the base. Then cracks the (two, cant remember) small air outlets on the pump one at a time. It should stort now... but when it doesn't try the injectorpipes and/or all over again 🙂 The pump should work, it might be on top of the cam, but you have tried to turn the crank so it is Odd. /mads
  12. ...one could point to the pinned topic on top of this sub forum 😉 -but that would of course take the fun out of the gues work 🙂 I am pretty sure, that a 200 pops in at 270kg. In that thread. /mads
  13. Hi Bowie, I did this (and have done it before) "the farmer way" yesterday with some 200 kilo of beehives with Honey in the back 🙂 It did not raise at all, which have lead me to the conclusion that it is malfunctioning. I do have a secondhand unit kicking about but it is of unknown origin and takes some effort to install so I was just trying some lateral thinking for alternatives and opinions of the alternatives which I have got! -great 🙂 The spring table is perfect for comparing, thankyou for sharing/pointing in that direction @FridgeFreezer. /mads
  14. Hi all, The airbag is a great idea! But a bit to much engineering for the moment. I agere, that the ride unloaded is great and I have always felt that the Boge was a Nice way of having the Best of both worlds BUT the price is a bit overwhelming 🙂 I will dig into the alternatives. Can anybody confirm that the puma era springs is a bit les harsh?
  15. Hi Jeremy, Was the ride OK with the stiffer springs?
  16. Thanks both! -I did not know the Boge unit was available as a remanufactured item... but the price is a bit steep 🥶 The unit (when working) does its job perfect but I think it will be binned at those prices... I will dig into partsbook for the never type springs. /mads
  17. Hi all, My god trusty 110STW from 1989 has over the years gone a bit soft in the rear suspension, especially when loaded up for summer etc. It did not use to be like this so I am thinking that the Boge unit finally might have given up the ghost. This got me thinking of alternatives and if all STW's had the Boge unit? I seem ro remember that in the last part of the 90's it was no longer used? Alternative setups appriciated, I was thinking OME but there may be better solutions out there (I guess that the rest of the suspension could use an upgrade/rebuild aswell 🙂) /mads
  18. Hi Muzaz, I experienced the same thing with needing new shims in the last (and first!) Lt77 I renovated a couple of years ago. I sourced the shim from a engineering supply as the ones from land rover suppliers is really expensive. As mentioned earlier in the thread I reckon It is the gasket thickness that does the difference. -On a sidenote, mine is actually still "oilproof" 😲😎 /mads
  19. I may have just removed the engine a couple of times in the past... 😬 As long as It isn't for years I beleive you Will be ok, but offcourse it is better to support it. A piece of wood between box and the crossmember under the gearbox should do. /mads
  20. I have two former edc engines that have been running with just disconnected wires for a decade. Might not be right, but most certanly works 🙂 -anybody in need of an edc pump? 🤣 /mads
  21. And here was me thinking: " you can get a left hung rear door?" 🤣 /mads
  22. Hi Wytze, My 90" runs at 2200kg incl. Me and all recoverygear full of fluids, 2 winches (one is a koenig so a bit on the heavy side), groundanchor and internal cage. My mates 110 stw runs at 2350kg with driver ready to go to pomerania (one winch a koenig, again a bit on the heavy side) only a internal hoop. /mads
  23. Exactly! 4mm inside. Works very well on both mine 🙂 /mads
  24. I normally use festo 6/4 silicone airhose. Works a treat, is clear so diesel/air is a obvious and lasts very well. As a bonus it can be used as breatherpipe on axles/gearbox and that way you always carry a spare piece of pipe aswell. /mads
  25. The lt77 uses a small plastic oilpickup/catcher directing oil to the 5'th gear section (if memorial serve right). Maybe you can adapt this/use it as a starting point. (IT does seem a bit underengineered though. I remember thinking, "what?" 🙂) /mads
