  1. Yeah, definitely none of that. No unusual sounds and certainly nothing grinding. I'm wondering if it is the filter that is blocked and not allowing enough fluid flow. Although the fluid is pretty clean. I've a new filter on order and will try it just in case.
  2. I did wonder about the TC . I'm fairly certain about the engines performance. It had been running well and performance was good. It runs smoothly and doens't seem to be struggling
  3. Yeah, cold engine and box, running in neutral, then cycling through all gears and back to neutral. Oil level comes to top dot of the two. There's no noise that I can discern and certainly nothing that gets louder other than the engine on rpm increase. Very interesting, no going manually through the gears doesn't help at all. The lowest gear gives some hint of movement but not much at all. (same for D) an incline is about enough to stop its forward motion. I've only had it a couple of times where with a bit of oscillating throttle and it seems to grab and give more drive.
  4. I've recently bought a a 4.6 p38 - (really as a future engine donor for my RRC project) but have become quite attached to it. It drove ok when I purchased it although was sometimes a little funny on kickdowns. Then one day on coming onto a slip road and flooring it I ended up with next to no drive. I've trailered it home and it seems to select all gears and in low ratio will drive reverse and forwards a small amount but application of throttle doesn't result in any appreciable speed increase. I've checked the fluid levels cold, with the engine running and they're good. The oil is also red and doesn't smell burned. I intend to change the filter just in case. Does anyone have any probable candidates? It feels like a slipping clutch in a manual so I wondered if both clutch packs had had it, or possible a torque converter issue.
  5. I thought this might be the thread for these. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ygcm0AQXX9k HDR Tig goggles.
  6. I've spent a while looking at the roll cabs etc, The ball bearing ones are just much nicer to use, but the gap between the clarke / halfords stuff and the top end boxes , snap on, mac, lista etc is pretty big again. Although they are extremely expensive they do feel far better. I bought an ex-display Beta box and top which I'm very pleased with so far, I've also just jumped on the halfords deal for a roller cabinet to stick my machinist tools in so that it can tidy up the area by the lathe. If it's not getting much use though, I'd say just go with whatever fits your pricepoint. Clarke and Halfords seem to be the cheapest. I've read that costco do a reasonable low - mid range box too.
  7. I've got the Ingersoll Rand 20v Battery impact and it is absolutely fantastic although very spendy. It's far better than my air impact.
  8. It depends on the output of the transformer and the power useage of the drill. Have you thought about just attaching some big clips on one end then using a car battery?
  9. A relative fell for one of these sets too, look very similar. Proudly brought them out when trying to drill something. snapped in a pillar drill on first use.
  10. I was really hoping that success was at hand. Hopefully it will not be too far away.
  11. I have a couple of sets of aviation headphones, both bose and Lightspeed. As has been mentioned before, they really only work on continuous repetetive sounds. Which makes them great for reducing wind noise , engine hum , etc. As nickwilliams says there is a vast difference between cheap and good noise cancelling circuitry, they do not silence everything though. I regularly use one of my sets in the 90 if I'm driving for any reasonable distance, I find it far more relaxing and although the stereo is quieter I can hear it comofortably. Both my sets have bluetooth and Aux ins on them so I can actually take a call in the 90 if necessary Some vehicles do put noise cancelling out, but I think to do that they usually have a number of microphones around the car to register the waveforms and positions so that they can send out a cancelling signal from the speakers.
  12. Is the simplest approach to get the economy up not just to strip weight out as much as possible. Do you need to run with a spare? Perhaps just a can of tyre weld in the back. Do you need the seats in most of the time? I seem to reall an article quite some time ago in a land rover mag where they tried to make a 50mpg defender, I think they got pretty close, by pulling the roof off, front window off, doors off (replaced with cardboard) , seats out and I think they wrapped the vehicle with a clear packing film to smooth out the surfaces.
  13. Why not just X-Lock ? rolls off the tongue and sounds close enough to X-Box which would be the obvious choice or X-Block.
  14. I really don't get why the government is to blame for this. With or without any advice people would have gone out and panic bought, it is just part of the herd mentality I could do with filling up the 90 but I'll try to wait till things have settled down a little. The nearest filling station to me shut today as they ran dry.
