  4. right chaps firstly i've posted in the main bit as i couldnt work.out which bit to put it in. (if it's in the wrong spot feel free to move it ) i brought a spare autobox and transferbox for the sump as the one on the discovery ended up with a big hole in it ,i have afeeling it's off a range rover of some description, as its got the borg warner transfer box, but i need find out wether it the auto box will be ok as a spare for the disco is there anyone who knows how to identify a zf autobox by its numbers off the plate on the side read 453921 104301332 and the other question is could i use the borg warner box in place of an lt230 transferbox if i needed to?
  5. having converted a manual disco to auto in the past youll need to swap over the flywheel housing from your engine, along with the flywheel and fit a spigot bearing into the crank as the auto crank hasnt got one fitted otherwise its pretty easy to do
  6. chhers RRB ive got pass the rangerover breakers on the A38 at burton on trent later today ill try there
  7. last year i converted the wifes disco to auto from manual, anyway the past few weeks there has been a small puddle of autofluid on the drive, as its been a long weekend off work i decided to see where it was leaking from. on ispection there was a small weeping from the dipstick tube on the autobox sump, so i decided to whip it off and put some ptfe tape on the thread, when i statred to udo it the whole lot snapped off the sump oh, dear didnt want to do that anyway in the event i cant get hold of a disco one and the smae gearbox was used in some bmw's jag's and volvo's would the sump and dipstick tube from one of those work on a disco??
  8. did you know the square shaped volkswagen LT van had exactly the same stud pattern as a landrover they use a 14" rim, i used to own one and used a landyrover back door wheel carrier for my spare wheel
  9. ive got one fitted to my swb i eneded up drilling holes into the front spring hangers as that was the only way i could it fitted and using high tensile bolts to hold it in place
  10. cheers for that shall nip up to the main dealer as its literally a 5 min walk from mine it'll be getting a full set of clipers pads and disc's the next time i come home as its not far till mot time
  11. i remember reading on here ages ago about using defender pads in the rears when the caliper wears so the pads fall out, did a search but couldnt find it does anyone know what pads i should be looking out for as i had one of my pads fall out today and need to get something sorted out before i travel back up to scotland next week for work
  12. Ive gone for a lwb front axle on my swb for the brakes ive used an early 110 brake pedal box and servo, then run the pipe for the front brakes to a 3 way and the rear port for the rear brakes, i used swb front wheel cylinders in the rear as they are bigger and at the front i followed the tip on here about putting the bleed nipple at the the top on the front wheel cylinders, although it means working out how to get the pipework to the bottom cylinder to the flexi pipe
  13. ihad the same trouble on my disco, replacing the plugs solved the problem, got mine from a local car spares place
  14. i felt it vibrating and grinding so slowed down, and drove like a granny to the services before they gave up the ghost completely
  15. following your advice chaps ive just ordered a new prop after taking the old uj out it was obvious the cast part was rather fubar'd
