gadget
I've finally got around to replacing the fuel tank cradle on our freelander. I've spent a while getting the exhaust off this evening and freeing up the bolts for the cradle and the subframe. Three of the subframe bolts have freed without any trouble but one of them, driver's side front, seems to have a free spinning captive nut. Anyone had this problem before? gadget
What a PITFA. The captive nut in the chassis under the floor has broken free. I've got the bolt and nut out only to find that the chassis is cracked and some bloody ape has welded the subframe to the chassis.
gadget
It's dark so the pictures aren't the best but this is what i found when i cut the floor open. The captive nut came out connected to the crush tube. They've cleaned up ok. Putting a plate over the existing broken one and welding to the chassis rail sides will fix the top part. The crush tube sits poking through the chassis rail and onto the subframe at the bottom. In my mind this isn't ideal and i'm thinking of putting a plate under the crush tube. Does that sound sensible? Anyone have any better suggestions?
