thanks paul, so I'm now gonna hv to buy some .05mm2 gauge cable. I'm surprised it isn't mentioned in retros guide, i though he had just crimped straight into the existing loom.

on the plus side drove in dark for first time with new clocks! wow!! amazing difference.

This thread just keeps on giving... thanks to all who've contributed (retro, cwazy and all the rest).

G-MACK: what tool did you end up using to make your crimps? I'm not keen on spending 30-40£ on a one-off crimper... d'you think can it be done (carefully) with a cheapo pair in combination with a pair of needle pliers?

Jim Davis at Eastern Beaver (a motorcycle connector specialist, based in Japan), has produced a couple of very good tutorials on how to 'crimp' terminals for which you don't have a proper crimper, using needle-nosed pliers, and soldering -

no it doesn't speedo has 2 replaceable bulbs as shown in Retro's website http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/2009/10/td5-gauges-bulb-information/

I can guarantee that if you take both those bulbs out your distance travelled will still light up

Here's a picture of one where I unsoldered the green board mounted LED's and fitted blue ones for someone.

ah, sorry, didn't realise you meant the mileage display lighting.

on another note but slightly related to td5 speedo, has the proposed red alarm led circuit had any progress ??

I bought one for £75 buy it now last week from a breaker on ebay... Luckily they were a bike breaker and not clued up on landrovers!

Ahh....you beat me to it! I found it, had a look to see if it was the full setup and then thought about it (no real need for another at the moment). Decided to purchase it for spares but it was gone when I went back in. I did think too that they had no idea what they had.

My speedo used to work 75% of the time after doing this upgrade. Now having put it all back together it's not working at all! Everything on the dash works except the speedo needle

An investigation shows 7.8 volts at terminal 1 of the transducer plug, a vary small resistance to earth on terminal 2 and terminal 3 is not easily checked as its the signal wire

I'm confident the speedo head is good as crazywabbit just clocked up the mileage for me with no issues.

What should I check next and is there and easy way to test for a signal using a multimeter?

I haven’t looked back through but I seem to remember pin 1 should be at 12v. Where have you got it fed from?

Gone back over it all and you are right it should be 12v. I wasn't suprised at 7.8v as thought it was probably fed from the speedo head but it is not. I obviously have a connection problem or a lot of resistance in the wire.

Hopefully that's the answer! Cheers
