willfromsussex
I can't remember, they were fostering him or something and found a home for him, but he came back because the bloke who bought him got told off by his mum or girlfriend or something because they didn't approve. I think he is about 3 or 4 and is neutered.

discomikey
nice build, i have only just discovered it, and have decided to follow it carefully from now on, im liking the drivetrain idea , much stronger than land rover axles, (mainly diffs) are they 4 pin? and i agree with the rangie body idea, i think it has that classic tradeamrk look. mikey
willfromsussex
HI Callum. Done nowt as been busy on other vehicles including my Plymouth However , I saw some nice old Rangies at the Ardingly show on Sunday so it gave me a little nudge to get back on it soon. willfromsussex
Hi Mikey, not sure about pins, but the diffs are absolutely massive , as are the shafts, CV joints etc. Put it this way, NEVER heard of anyone breaking one, and that includes leaving it in 4WD with difflock on, on tarmac and turning it round with the tyres screeching. The propellor shafts are truck sized. M12 bolts for example and the flanges are about 4 inches diameter. The engine and gearbox are all cast iron and are basically ones used in small lorrys in other countries. The torque is good, and max torque is at 2,000 RPM. These engines have dual oil filters and dual batteries, and came in 12 and 24 volt versions. Inline and rotary pump versions too. Very tough. This is why Patrols 4.2 diesels go for so much money, even rusty old ones. They're just one of THOSE ENGINES. Can't believe I've not touched this project for so long, determined to do it THIS year. willfromsussex
Got back onto this project after a long break mainly as I have a nice new workshop now and this is the first car to set wheel in it. I managed to obtain a rare turbo conversion manifold so I have been refurbing it. I just need to send the T3 turbo I have here off for rebuilding. Here it is with the inner wings off, ..taken the old manifold off, extracted a broken head stud, and done a trial fit of the turbo manifold and turbo. The downpipe I had for the turbo touches the bulkhead so I need to cut and shut that. Now all taken-apart-a-tated Been fitting a new clutch while the engine and box are out. Other jobs are to weld all the bits that are just tack welded, neaten things up, box in things that are just cut out (part of bulkhead etc) then get all the components sandblasted and repainted. Just to give you an idea of the build and torque of these engines, the clutch is held onto the flywheel with TWELVE 12mm headed bolts. (Propshaft bolts are 17mm headed) more take-apart-ing and fitting a return port for the turbo oil in the sump Pipe TIGged in, sump back on and engine painted. willfromsussex
Got chassis back the other day Boxed in the bit I had to chop out of the crossmember. Then a coat of 2K black Also had front axle, calipers and swivel housings etc blasted and etch primed so I masked and painted these in the same paint as the chassis. Retroanaconda
Looks fantastic. If I see a high-riding Range Rover running about these parts I'll know where it's come from!
willfromsussex
Not trying to make it high, in fact the only reason it has any kind of body lift is so the engine doesn't hit the bonnet! Done a few more jobs, made a drag link for the steering, did some fabrication on the trans crossmember and some boring stuff like cleaning and painting various bolts and fasteners, made a fuel filter mount, and painted the other shock tower.
