Front halfshaft spacer

Recommended Posts

Hi I replaced my bust cv at the weekend now when I took the old cv off the shaft there was a spacer slid on the shaft before the cv, I presume it wasn't part of the cv. Has anyone got a parts book that can confirm the spacer goes there as I've put it together and forgot to put it back, oops! Only think I can think it stops the cv going too far onto the shaft? Cheers mikr

nsp = not seperate part IIRC. so it's part of the complete CV joint,

BUT on page 414 item 4 the same spacer for 110 with rear drum brakes gives 2 part numbers

&

hth.

do you still have the original spacer, if yes it would be worth refitting it.

Yeah I think I still have it, it was that long between stripping and refitting I'd forgot it! Still can't decide what it does, all I can think is it stops the inner half shaft going to far into the cv cheers mike

When I did my front axle last, I forgot one  put the whole side back together before saw it sat on the wing waiting patiently for me to fit it. Taking the CV off the shaft then broke the last clip I had and that happened at 4pm on a saturday, with nowhere to buy the clip!

I hope I don't forget it another time :glare:

Stripped it down tonight couldn't get the cv off the shaft the circlip wasn't perfectly round when I put it on (s*%#part) so ended up knocking seven bells out of it and now bust the cv so have to get another now

Were you using a soft face copper or hide mallet?

Mine took an absolute beating to get off but the CVs were undamaged.

Nope tried a block of wood to start with then gave up and used just the hammer. Looking at it after the circlip has broke in half, half in the groove and have in the cv

Not sure what you are meaning by not round... It needs to sit out of the groove at rest to stop the CV moving.

Post up a piccy :)

Yeah but the old one was perfectly round but both new ones have a kink in either "end about 5mm from the ends. I think it's just down to the replacement part being not aswell toleranced perhaps than the original one. Unfortunately no pic as its on now, I'll try and get a pic tho

it's a 'snap' ring designed to pass through out of the CV inner section & pulling through to the diff. item 5 page 416 here http://www.retroanac...ng_p398-471.pdf

New part number http://www.brit-car....php?xProd=94244

pic below is a front inner shaft I busted a few years ago, it still has the bronze collar & snap ring fitted

thought it might help,

just extracted this from the shaft in my pic above, happy to post it to you.

I prised one end of the snap ring to the shaft end with a thin blade then rotated the shaft while holding the raised end to stop it jumping back into the groove.
