Almost there with MegajoltV3

Hi everyone, Im finally in the process of fitting megajolt(v3,MAP) onto my 97 V8 serp, lpg disco.

Ive done the basic fit and everything seems to be running in just EDIS8 mode. Finalising everything off but found the lead i had for the pc to megajolt to be wrong ( i hope its that anyway).Just a few queries im hoping you could help me answer

1. What ampage fuse should i put on the system?. Ive gotta find a suitable positive with the ignition yet and ive run the EDIS and MJ on the same power lead as recommended.

2. For the MAP, can i take it from the original advance take off for the dizzy on top of plenum?

3. I have a standard V8 3.9 map that someone kindly sent me, but can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable LPG map...i use this 90% of the time (96'-3.9-V8-serp-MAP-MJV3)

4.For the megajolt v3..Is it as simple as adding a negative trigger to switch maps (to switch to lpg map)

5.i have a basic single point LPG system that doesnt link into the lamba atall(is that open loop?). Where is the best point to now trigger the lpg system. It currently has a trigger wire going to the coil.

I do appreciate any help you can give me on any of these points. Ive scoured the site and cant find any answer to these...if i have missed them then i am sorry

Thanks in advance for your help

Darren

regarding point one, ive realised (after re-reading) that it would be better to run each coil, edis and MJ seperate to its own fuse box ( after seeing i pic on one thread on here ive seen ) Still dont know the correct size fuse i would need though

  • 2 weeks later...
well ive finished the install.

Ive used 15amp fuses for each coil, 10amp for the EDIS8 unit and a 5amp for the megajolt V3.

Ive used an output i found on the back of the plenum so thats sorted my MAP sensor

im not going to bother with the map switch as the LPG map seems to run petrol as good as LPG.

I still havent found out what to do with my LPG trigger yet. It currently is connected to the negative side of the coil and im asuming it reads the pulses and kicks in LPG as 1250RPM. Not sure where to connect up on the new coils or how. Ive still left the old ignition system on the car so using the old coil to swap to LPG lol

Anyone any ideas how to connect up this trigger atall.?

Cheers

Mine did the same as yours, switched at a certain RPM by monitoring the coil. My LPG controller also allowed manual control so I just left the auto switch disconnected and switched manually.

I was going to borrow another v8 and have a look with an oscilloscope to see whats actually happening, you might be able to use or adapt the pip/saw signal (i forget which is going to the megajolt) as that is a square wave based on RPM but like most ideas I have I never got around to it. Since bobtailing it I don't have a tank, my plan is to use a forklift gas bottle so I don't have to keep towing the thing to an LPG station to fill it but like most of my ideas I never got around to it. :)

I'd love to know if you get anywhere with it :)

I used the diode method on the Land-Rover, which worked perfectly with MJ and then MS. Foolishly this time forgot to account for it and didn't want to chop my wires to take the feeds for them, hence the relay coil method.

If you do use a relay, make sure you take the contacts out- the buzz it made with them in while I was testing was annoying to say the least! I didn't make any changes internally on the MS, so should work OK with MJ too- just build the whole thing externally like I did.

Having said this a handful of diodes is cheaper than a relay though!

Thanks for the reply guys, sorry for delay in answering. I tried pin 2 from the EDIS8 unit and it worked a treat and the lpg switch over as it should, however i lost the ability to double flick on the switch over switch and start on Gas.

I also disconnected the coil and it wont start atall with out it connected fully...very strange so ive now connected the LPG back to the original coil so i retain switch start on lpg

Any ideas atall. I appreciate the help

Darren
