David Sparkes
I am looking for a switch. Mechanically it must have a long threaded shank to provide positional adjustment. Electrically it must be 'push to break'. I've spotted two possibilities that fit the mechanical criteria, but I'm not sure on the 'push to break' element. 575166 is listed by LRSeries as "Brake light switch for servo assist brake models. Also used on optional equipment reverse lamp (mounted on gear lever bracket).". Applicable models: Land Rover Series. The use as a reverse light switch suggests to me that it has a 'push to make' action. 589223 looks very similar, but is listed by LRSeries as: "Brake failure warning switch.Various other applications.Mounted on brake pedal. Applicable models are: Land Rover Series 3, inc. Military models.1980 on". I don't know either switch, but does anyone else? Can you confirm my suspicions about 575166, or confirm that 589233 is the one I need? Do you know of other switches with the required mechanical and electrical characteristics? Thankyou. Bowie69
Old ford Fiesta/Escort/Sierra and probably later models have this sort of arrangement, in fact this is pretty normal for many manufacturers... e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ford-Fiesta-Mk1-Brake-Light-Switch-Genuine-/131180175887?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e8af2a20f http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brake-Light-Switch-Beckermann-157-0031-/171324483344?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AFord%7CModel%3AFiesta&hash=item27e3bc2710 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/51430-Brake-Light-Switch-fits-Renault-5-Super-5-9-11-21-25-Extra-Express-/231419157386?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35e1a81b8a http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/51680-Brake-Light-Switch-fits-Fiat-124-125-126-127-128-130-X1-9-Alfa-Romeo-Lada-/231419157615?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35e1a81c6f I know for a fact the Ford ones are push to break, couldn't be sure on the others, but fail to see how it would work otherwise...? I wouldn't limit your choices to LR parts only
secondjeremy
The late 2a's used a push to break switch maounted at the top of the brake pedal for the brake light switch. Otherwise many cars like Citroens use push to break switches - you may be able to find one in an independent motor parts shop.
