blindsteviemac
Hi, I have a 2002 P38 with a problem in the centre diff. I have noticed when turning tightly that the tyres are scrubbing as if the centre diff has locked up. Has anyone else suffered in this way? How hard is it to change the diff? elbekko
Yup, that'll be the viscous coupling. You can check by jacking up one wheel, and applying a breaker bar to one of the nuts. It should move slowly when applying a constant force. If it doesn't, the viscous coupling is locked up. You can exchange it at Ashcroft Transmissions, or find a second hand one somewhere, but that's always a bit of a gamble, as it might be on the way out as well. Range Rover Blues
Tyres scrubbing on tight lock might just be the tracking because it's very crude on these things. As suggested try lifting one wheel and spinning it with a breaker bar, you should just be able to torque the wheelnuts against the Viscous coupling.
