Why on earth do you want to do this anyway you don't go deep water wading / off roading in yours ???....

Because carbs & points went out with the Sinclair Spectrum perhaps Nige?

Check out ebay.com, I bought from a guy called themidwestmustang, and paid about $ 65, including coilpacks and shipping to New Jersey. And another £ 30 for shipping and taxes to Norway. And just to make some more confusion about currencies, thats about 800 norwegian kroner alltogether. :D

Trigger wheel needs to be about 160mm od x 68mm id x say 4-6mm and then fettled to fit.

just a reliability thing, even with the Luminition system you've got a rotor and the trigger wheel which is plastic, already heard of someone loosing a tang on the trigger wheel so got me thinking about making a duel system that I can swap as and when.

Ah, you should have been at Bunny Lane two months ago, got it a bit deep :D went onto seven for a few seconds but recovered, so generally happy with the present setup as it aint let me down, but always got an eye on improvement

Ooh get you :P keeping the carbs, in fact I wish Rogue hadn't shown me his Edelbrock carb and manifold..... nah can't afford the fuel!

Cheers on that, will look into getting the Megajolt and building that first, then getting on with the rest in the back ground :)

Bill and I spoke about it some time ago after Nige kindly supplied some specs. In response to that I got hold of a bunch of different pulleys to ensure that the design would work with all of them, unfortunately it turns out that there are actually a couple of different designs and coming up with a generic solution took some time. If you have a pulley with 6 bolt-holes then we've got a bolt-on solution that will work on the front or rear of the pulley as per Nige's description. If you have one of the pulleys with 4 bolt-holes then a rear-mounted trigger wheel isn't really possible so you have to go front-mount, again we have a bolt-on solution. Both trigger-wheel kits have been around for a little while now but I've been rather remiss in letting people know that they're now available and for that I apologise.

I quite agree although by the time you've shipped them in from the US and paid duty on them he's not going to get rich, FWIW I've got a good supply of EDIS-8 kits in stock, which have the EDIS-8 module, a pair of coil packs and the VR sensor for only a tenner more! http://www.trigger-wheels.com/electrical.php

The EDIS-8 kits are fairly tight margin, largely due to the cost of the EDIS-8 modules themselves, which I essentially sell at cost as I don't think that it's reasonable to charge any more than £80. The RV8 trigger wheel kits are currently on a promotion as they're a newstyle for us, full price will be 10-15 quid more than the current price.

Having said that mention the forum and I'll give you 5% off the EDIS kits and 10% off the trigger wheels. To get the discount place the order as normal through the website and just add a note with your order and I'll then refund back the discount.

That's what I like to hear. If you have any photos of it installed I'd love to have them so that I can add some real-world pictures of them to the gallery on the site.

Out of interest did you have space to use both of the spacers?

I'll take a photo tomorrow & post it up. I'm going to try it without any spacer initially, I have the VR sensor mounted within 1mm clearance so hope this will be okay. I don't think i'd be able to fit the spacer supplied as it would be too close to the timing cover bolt. If Megasquirt doesn't get a good signal I'll try a couple of washers behind the triggerwheel.

For the VR mount I used a bit of chequerplate (all i had lying around) bent 90deg and drilled, bit of a bodge but it seems solid enough. Two bolts hold the bracket to the timing cover. The upper hole (which had no bolt in it) seems to be imperial thread, i used an exhaust manifold bolt and it went straight in.

There's a strange satisfaction in destructively addressing the source of so many past woes with power tools :) I've done something similar on my mini, leaving just a stub sticking out and an M12 bolt and washers sealing where the shaft was. On my cosworth installation I needed to retain the oil pump drive so left the shaft intact and just turned down the outer section by holding both ends of the shaft and letting the outer spin against my bench grinder.

I'll be running the MSnS with direct coil drive but have aligned the VR sensor with the 5th tooth at TDC to give compatibility with EDIS, should i switch to this in future.

A word of warning here, the EDIS setup is a doddle to install and "just works", the wheel decoder and direct drive coils can be a pain to get set up. Once running it doesn't tend to give any grief but I hear of far more problems with direct drive than with EDIS. Don't let that discourage you though, there are definite advantages with direct drive.

Hi all,

Finally got round to start fitting EDIS to my 90. Here are a few pics of the coil pack brackets I'm using. There from early Escorts as the later ones have an additional plate on the top and are cut down as shown. I'll get some angled brackets cut to fit either side of the water pump on the bolts arrowed and the coil pack mounts will sit on top of these brackets. If anyone wants to go this route drop us a PM and it might get a batch of brackets laser cut & bent up so it's a easy mod. You'll be able to use the same Magnecor leads as Nige has had made, so even easier. Will post more pics as I progress.
