Paul64
Hi, My clutch pedal on my Defender 110 is very hard to depress. The clutch needed changing anyway, but pedal remained heavy after change. Is this anything to do with the pedal spring? Any ideas on how to lighten the pedal? Thanks in advance. Paul
western
Remove the top cover from the pedal box & & lubricate the pedal pivot shaft & the trunnion parts.
davelr4x4
I did the same fix for my clutch pedal which had a damn annoying squeak every time it was depressed. I'd put the job off for months then was very surprised how easy it was to just undo the 6 bolts, remove the lid, grease the joint and put back the lid. Not even difficult to access or anything. Took 15 minutes tops. Wish I'd done it ages ago. Dave.

reb78
Where is the box located Dave? Its attached to the clutch master cylinder - the 6 screws attaching the plate just below the master cylinder - right next to the brake servo. It usually has the accelerator pedal attahed or passing right over the top of it. Just remove the plate and oil all below it.
davelr4x4
Not having a good camera handy I've shamelessly stolen this picture from Les' 200Tdi timing belt advice. It just about shows the black box covering the top of the pedals in the top left corner of the picture. You just remove the lid from that box. Oil or grease as desired and refit. This is a 200Tdi Defender but I presume the location is similar for other models. Regards, Dave.

The vaccum line passes across the box inthe photo. Just remove the screws and grease..........
Paul64
Lubricated parts as described but it has made no difference. The spring to the clutch pedal on my 110 CSW looks different from my cousins 90. Could the spring be the problem?
western
you could change the pedal asembly to the later version as in 300Tdi vehicles & mine, spring looks like this IIRC yours has a long thin spring on the side of the pedal or is the pedal adjust properly, like this
cackshifter
I notice you too have the signature 'brake fluid was here' blistering.... Nigel
02jcole
The clutch on my 1997 300tdi defender was still heavy even after replacing with a new one, turned out the the clutch master cylkinder was way out of adjustment. Check the distance of the edge of the pedal from the floor and also the availble free play on the master cylinder rod in the pedal box, As western has detailed above. My clutch is adjusted right near the end of the master cylinder rod, don't know if it makes the clutch lighter to operate through a lever effect? James. Anderzander
I can vouch for the later spring - my clutch pedal was pretty heavy before but was transformed by the other spring. Works just like a car where the spring assists the push after a certain point of its travel.
