cipx2 Posted September 24, 2009 Share Posted September 24, 2009 I think a split CV gaiter is a fail under section E1a, see http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_250.htm Whereas a TRE gaiter (dust cover) is only an advisory (or whatever it's called), according to http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_220.htm (see Steering Joint dust cover). steve_d Posted September 24, 2009 Share Posted September 24, 2009 You won't get away with this on a CV because of all the movement but you can fix a split TRE gaiter with superglue as it loves rubber. ciderman Posted September 24, 2009 Share Posted September 24, 2009 CV and steering rack gaiters split are a reason for failure , Split TRE boot is not a reason for failure , Its an advisory , Have you submitted it for test yet Bish , Just for piece of mind stick a new joint on ,for less than 25 quid do the lot . TRE gaiter not a problem, but the absence of one of the two poxy little bolts used to locate the A frame ball joint was! The annoying thing is that it has been like that for 3 years and MOT'd at the same place each time. The ball joint went in slightly crooked so I could only get one of the bolts in. Ho hum. pat_pending Posted October 3, 2009 Share Posted October 3, 2009 If there's nothing wrong with the joint, it's just a misaligned hole, then run a drill down from the top to clear the overlap then follow it through with a tap.
