Anglo-Frenchman
Hi, We live in New Zealand but my dad (who lives in the UK) is interested in buying a Freelander. His trusty 1994 300tdi Disco has just expired and at 82 he could do with something a bit smaller. Although I've had a number of Discos and Defenders over the years I know NOTHING about Freelanders and would like to help him avoid buying a dud. Any advice about things that he should avoid or look out for would be greatly appreciated. I think that he should go for a Td4 rather than the petrol alternative on the grounds of running costs but I could be wrong. I think his wallet would extend to around a 2006/7 model from what I've seen on Eblag. Thanks in advance for your pearls of wisdom
FridgeFreezer
A read back through this forum will turn up a fair few buying advice threads.
landmannnn
I don't think the 5 door freelander is actually much smaller than a disco, although it does feel like it. My dad is a similar age and drives a 3.2 petrol car, he does so little mileage that it doesn't justify the additional cost of diesel. Anglo-Frenchman
Thanks for the comments - all very valid. I'll have a check on the past threads to see if there are any real nasties to avoid. Seems perhaps that LR ironed out the problems for which early models were known for. barmiebrumie
The 2007 model would be already a FL 2, wouldn't it? Pretty sure that some 2006 models are late facelift freelander ones & some early 2007 models are Freelander two's & much better IMHO But that said I may be wrong
