Hi can anyone help me i have a p-reg 300 tdi auto disco the auto box went faulty so i have converted it to manual, does anyone know how to bypass the inhibitor switch which stops u starting it in gear. There are 4 wires on the plug which come off the auto box 2 were green with different couloured traces in them and 2 blacks with differnt colour trace in them. i think these are the wires for it but not sure can anyone help regards paul

Some wires are for reversing light switch, the black/yellow from the starter relay is earthed via the alarm ecu on the black/green according to the diagram in the Haynes manual, see what happens when they are connected together.

yeppers, two wires are the reverse light, bridge them out individually to find which two switch the light and connect them to the reverse light switch on the manual, the other two are the inhibitor, they will be normally open to prevent the starter motor from being initiated, they close if Park or Neutral is engaged these two you bridge permanently.

BTW, I bridged the inhibitor lock-out switch on mine some time ago, I got fed up with the switch occassionally sticking and besides I'm a big boy now and I think I can remember to leave the gear lever in Park - after all do manual gearbox drivers have lock-out switches to make sure they only start their engines in neutral?
