  1. After a recent topic I read on here about fastner choices, always a hot topic for me working with ships but as equally transferable to Land rovers I find it quite interesting, anyway found this short yet interesting article on galvanic corrosion. https://www.assda.asn.au/technical-info/technical-faqs/galvanicdissimilar-metal-corrosion

  2. Make a bracket to fit the front bumper and mount it horizontally like some of the Belgian Minervas and our pinkies did. (I would be looking for a spare bonnet to put the wheel on, sticking it on the back with the 80"s narrow springs will make it wallow a bit. The phot shows the spare on the back of an 80 on a trip to Romania but the springs were beefed up. The bracket doesnt fold and the back seat passengers had to climb in over the front. Peter

  3. Legroom is massive compared to the original but I've lost a bit of boot length as a consequence, not sure I'd trade it though. With the front seats further back then the leg room is as minimal as you'd want to get. The bonus is because the L322 seats are proper full-depth in the back that you don't actually need too much actual "space" between the front seats and the rear because most of your upper leg is actually on the seat. Dogs massively prefer the new seats compared to the old.

  4. Thanks both, I have taken the exhaust off now. One of the studs snapped, it was badly corroded. Of the other two, one came out with the nut, the nut came off the other stud. Anyway, the studs are 5/16 unf, seems eBay was incorrect.

  5. Well it’s came this afternoon, drained coolant fitted new thermostat and the new bypass hose , the old one had lots of little splits in it where the jubilee clip had dug in to it so presume that’s what was causing the hissing , other thing I noticed is the expansion tank cap the disc in the top inside was solid and wouldn’t move where as the one on the project did so presumed the newer one on the project was good so swamped them over . Test run in the morning when I go to Halfords so I’ll report back then hopefully all’s good now .

  6. Cheers both , it’s a 200tdi Nick , a blockage is doubtful but possible as the silicone hoses were all new at rebuild and the head and block were cleaned at that time as well , I also ran it on waterless coolant up to 8 months ago . So I’ve ordered a new water pump bypass hose , as that was where I could hear a hissing from originally just in case it’s split and sucking air in under pressure , so will drain her fit that and a new thermostat as they’re cheap and see how she goes but I will check the hoses just in case . cheers Ian

  7. If your wheels aren't as heavy as later ones could you make a wide "u" shape bracket to hang the spare over the offside rear panel. As youhave no barrel role on the sides it would sit flush down the side and with rubber to protect it and on the inside some thing to pack the difference like a "G" clamp effect.

  8. I’m trying to soak up all this advice and determine what the next action should be. The machine shop has been there for years and has a big turnover of work. When they say “measure if you want but the bores won’t be warn” then I have to take that as reliable. I was interested to hear that they rebuild Land Rover engines that the army send from Devon. I said I will measure so I will. I hope I do it accurately enough to make a decision.

  10. I don't agree. I would never advocate putting a second hand engine you have bought from someone straight into your vehicle. Tdi engines are practically antique now; will be over 20 years old, high mileage, unknow service history and unknown life i.e lots of towing or off roading. This is not as good as new by my definition. The engine you have is a known. You have got this far, I would continue the work you have done so when you are finished you have an engine that really will be as good as new and you are confident the work has been done correctly with parts from a trusted source.

  12. A stuck oil ring was contributary to my 200tdi's heavy oil usage, 0.040 oversize is the max rebore size for Tdi engines so that stuck oil ring won't help at all. Turners can supply replacement 0.040 oversize pistons, https://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/stc-2982-piston-assembly-1-c2x26617381 if the bores are badly damaged these flanged liners can be used to restore it to standard bore size.https://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/su351027-flanged-liner-c2x21683550
