  2. I've had a constant water leak from this vehicle. Especially the bottom water hose. Rubber hoses just won't seal when cold on the aluminium outlets. I eventually found a Silicon Bottom Hose. Its D2 4.0 V8. The front end is from a 1999 3.9 V8. Imported from Czechoslovakia and the quality its actually pretty good.. . It seals perfectly and doesn't require hose clamps tightened to their limit. However. Success is short lived. I now have coolant dripping from the passenger side. which is the lowest point on the radiator. The Hand built, Tig Welded, twin

  3. Yes I used the BMW 6 speed manual from an E46 330d. Lots of people use the R380 with great success but as I didn't have a suitable R380 box to hand (mine was an LT77) I thought I might as well upgrade. It does add cost because the ratios are lower and the transfer box gears need to be changed to match but I'm really pleased with the way the ratios have turned out. Because the low range transfer gears remain the same I now have a super low range low box. Low 1st is like a crawler gear so I think I will have a better selection of low gears to use off road, can't wait to give it a try.

  4. I've got a friend () down here who I suspect would probably be able to do it and knowing him for not a lot. He's popping over on Sunday to look at some work for me so if I remember I can ask the question. Certainly got the tools to do it - he skimmed the head of my sister's Td5 in a single pass on one of his smaller mills .

  6. Which shafts are they? A lot of them aren't the same diameter as the spline the whole length.

  9. I just had a phone call from a group of "off roaders" wanting some advice... Apparently they picked up a route around Otley that takes 2-3 days and covers around 100 miles of tracks/lanes with some B roads. They'd not researched any of the routes themselves but it was someone's birthday and him and a bunch of his mates wanted to spend a few days driving and camping in the area having driven up from Wisbech. When they got there they couldn't find any of the routes so phoned up the local off road club for help. I pointed out that they are breaking the law in terms of the lockdown and inten

  10. .... If clinical trails suggest it to be safe and effective. There is also then a question of how it will rolled out if it does pass the trials. Probably it would be the most vulnerable first followed by health workers and then most of us plebs at the bottom of the list. Then there are the can't be bothered/anti vac brigade.

  12. I knew two people personally that have died from it. One 79 and the other 48, so please pardon me for NOT welcoming the slackening of social distancing. I am happy to stay out of the way for the time being.

  13. Another guy of facebook can sort you out regarding engine and gearbox, and probably cruise control as well, but its the P38 transfer box that will be more difficult, as not too many people want to do the conversion ......... pay for it, I mean ! Max Wiseman is the man, but they aint cheap ! Thing is with adaptors and plates is, by the time you have done all the research and bought all the stuff to do it, plus the time, its probably cheaper to buy a commercially made kit. Easiest way would be to use a 4HP24, your existing bellhousing on an earlier engine, and get a speciality torque c

  15. Not in this case I'm getting a sort of wave pattern and its not consistant with the entry of the cut....Done a bit of reading..... Stainless can work harden if your feed rate is too low, my shop saw is a cheap gravity feed (no feed just the weight of the saw) I do have some weights I hang on it, but I don't use them often because the bands are not very deep and it can stretch the blade allowing it to cut off I know that pattern your refering to..... I could be wrong in this lol I haven't spent too many hrs on decent bandsaws, I've found when I got that pattern its worth checking my chip,

  16. A small update. The doner car has gone now, in the end I recovered £400 from the sale of a few parts from the BMW, so the engine has effectively cost me £300 which I'm quite pleased about. I bodged together a temporary stand alone wiring loom to see if I could get the immobiliser working. With a bit of time going through various pinouts I got the starter to crank and I can connect to the ECU with the INPA software so its looking good. I also used the time I had during the wet weather to refurbish a 300tdi discovery rear axle which I picked up back in the summer. When we eventually ha
