  1. I googled for hours to try and fix this and finally I found something useful. To reset a locked out Eberspacher D5LC (may work on other models) all you need to do I short out two wires. You do not need to buy a 701 or 801 controller or take it to a dealer. 25 1688 50 00 / 12V and 25 1689 50 00 / 24V in versions R0,R1,R2,R3,R4 are confirmed to work. Although you need to short the wires for longer time on the R3 and R4 models of ECU. Up to 5 seconds for the R3,R4 and up to 2 seconds for the R0,R1,R2. To do this try to start the unit as normal. This will not work as its locked out however you

  2. Again, please let me shed some light on the true situation regarding testing in hospital labs by removing any current politics. I work for one of the largest clinical diagnostics companies in the PCR section. The virus is detected (from swabs taken from the nose and throat) by PCR. Not all hospital labs are set up to do this specialist test. Let me assure you that the company I work for (and others) and NHS England have been putting additional capacity for this type of testing in place all throughout the summer as well additional biomedical scientist staff being retrained from other areas

As some of you will know, you can decode some Land Rover fastener part numbers into their actual threads & dimensions, like this: BT606106 = Bolt, 3/8 UNF x 1 1/4" Anyway, whilst perusing the S3 Parts book for a few bits and bobs I ended up down quite a rabbit hole and ended up making this: Land Rover / BL fastener part number decoder-o-tron It should get the basics right but I found a lot of previously un-mentioned variations in the parts book so if anyone has their anorak on and feels like filling in the blanks that would be super awesome.   7. For anyone interested I would also like to give an insight it to the "testing fiasco" in the UK hospitals that has been reported in the news this week and give the facts. I am working for a company who directly supplies and supports hospital laboratories for virology testing. I was in an NHS lab in London this week preparing instruments to do the testing.   9. Hi all, I'm currently rebuilding the LT230T 43D of our Td5 Defender after an issue in the transmission which eventually turned out to be in the front axle. Fortunately I enjoy doing this - I've always wanted to do a gearbox and I can honestly say that it is the best way to learn how it works and how to treat it. I also took the opportunity to make some photographs. Initially because the thing looks very nice - it's almost a pity to have to hide it in the casing - but I also realised that I have never seen comparable images.   11. They have indeed given them out, and oh boy i wish i was allowed to take it off road and really test it. Done some road miles in one, literally a heres the keys jump in and go so haven't read the books, gone from a 2003 defender to it and there are sooooooooo many functions and options i wish i had time to test off in mud, but rules say no as somebody agreed to hand them back with all panels straight and not hammered..... dear landrover uk if you want to loan me one for a decent test i will definitely take it lol!!!!! see how it copes in a real mixed environment of work for say 6 month

We as a nation are ignorant when it comes to languages but I guess that comes from being one of the more commonly used.   14. A friend picked up his new Defender yesterday. So we couldn't resist having a bit of a line up and photo shoot. We have vehicles spanning 1953 thru to 2020. I think the photos clearly show the new Defender had a lot more in common with the D4, than it does a traditional Defender or Series. However I think I can say, I do like the new vehicle, despite it being badged as Defender. Not because of it.

  16. Discovered play in the water pump pulley today, which is probably causing the squeak that’s been coming from the engine recently. It does give me an excuse to try out the building though, so I put the 90 in this afternoon. As you can see there is plenty of room down both sides of the car for access and with it slightly over to the right no hinderance in front of the workbench.

People will find fault whatever colour government are in place, it's what people do and of course it's dead easy but it's not so easy if they were the ones trying to pick a path through this or that minefield.   19. It's times like these that really makes you re assess your priorities. I'm now acutely aware of how I've been wasting precious resources. I'm really looking at my Landrover use, and asking myself " is this right? Should I be using my Landrover like this?" So, I've decided. Life is too short to waste in an eurobox, I'm going to make my series my daily car, unless I need to bring passengers.

  21. Well, that wasn't exactly the plan, but it's what happened 🤦‍♂️ Popped over to the UK for New Year's to have a play at Bunny Lane, and combine it with the classic car show at Brooklands. Arrived at Bunny Lane around lunch after missing our ferry by 5 minutes because we were sat at border control in Calais for an hour with nobody bothering to work Bit miffed to have gotten up at 3 in the morning to then be waiting an hour for the next one...   25. I really needed to get out and have a bit of a break. So took the OneTen out for a spin. Found a place for the lunch break.. Met with a group of German / Russian occupied LR's who saw me parked in the shades and asked if they could join me for lunch.. Of course they could and this "lunch meet" ran into the afternoon as we enjoyed the P&Q, talked about life in general and had a good time. Based in Germany, they usually go into RU to visit friends & family but not now. So they made do with a "round the Alps Tour" but found the driving not as much fun as they'd

  30. I am furloughed on what is effectively sub minimum wage, and probably will not have a job to go back to. BUT, I like being am home. Lucky in that I have loads of space and plenty do here, vehicles, machinery, building work, animals, fencing etc, and have appreciated the gift of time. I can cope with isolation very well, and have often said that if I never had to speak to another human being, it would be fine. Interests and hobbies are the key, and it always surprises me how many people have no interests in anything "real". Watching football and buying the latest club "B" team away shirt o

  34. Bit of an update, had the truck back for a few weeks now, everything is tip top! In the end I'm glad to have gotten it fixed instead of trying to double down losses and sell. With all the down time due to quarantines I painted the rims and front headlight shrouds (more out of boredom than anything else)

My job is a mix of going out and about to hospital labs to visit customers (always viewed that as the fun part of my job) and then working from home catching up on paperwork, filling in tender responses etc. I have to admit it has always irritated me that many of my neighbours have made sarcastic comments about me "working from home again" if I pop out to the shop at lunchtime or go to post a letter as if I'm just sat indoors watching TV or playing computer games. They don't see that I started work before many people would have got to the office and if I have a deadline to meet I can cont

  39. It is alive 😀 I have just done a nice and varied 30 mile trip up hill and down dale (in beautiful weather - blue skies above the mists). I chose some reasonable hills and there have been plenty of gear changes so hopefully a good bit of variable engine speed. On initial cranking with the solenoid disconnected, the oil pressure didn't rise enough to switch the warning lamp off. After four decent cranks and the lamp still on, I re-connected and cranked one more time to fill the injector pipes. I had thought that I'd see diesel spirting from the tops of the injectors but the pipes were

  40. Yes i have considered it, and it is the right way to go but the cost of owning a Defender in Malta in prohibitive of my budget. The Series are easier to acquire here and easier to maintain in term road licence and insurance. I like hacking and making thing personal but i do not in any way want to make a defender from a series. But make a Series just more livable on modern roads .   42. A little more progress this weekend sees the front suspension back together and the front callipers assembled with pads and new pins. I have also put a couple of coats of paint on the fuel tank and steering box I then thought I would remove the loom from the old chassis. Cue some swearing and I was puzzled why it was stuck. I cut the top off a section of chassis and found the cause When I fitted the rear crossmember a few years ago I threaded the loom through a tennis ball to prevent it getting damaged from the welding. It worked perfectly by the looks of it. Just totally

  45. Hi, Just thought I would post an update. DVLA have now (today) withdrawn the threat of prosecution, and say the response to the GDPR request has been despatched to us on 17th Sept - still not arrived. They are awarding £100 for the stress and anxiety all this has caused. All this in a fairly apologetic letter. We had to ask our MP to intervene in the GDPR request, and that must have caused someone sensible to finally look at it. It will be interesting to see what the GDPR dump contains when it finally arrives, as this may shed some light on DVLAs policies which will require further investigati

  46. What a load of old cobblers about batteries too - the Defender battery under the seat (in a sharp-edged metal box no less) is no better than this, and a lot of modern vans have the same setup. There's usually a dedicated jump-start tag in the engine bay, and it's complete balls that you can't jump-start modern cars "wiv electrics" - it's a 12v boost not a friggin' defibrilator

What a lovely weekend I've had - Had to nip back to South Africa last week to do some work shipping classic cars back from Durban, and decided to do a little more work on my rolling restoration S2a and drive it back the 640Km to Johannesburg. I'm going to have a go at getting it up to a national park in Zimbabwe later in the year, so made some sense to have a stab at some jobs that need doing and give it a decent road test - as I bought it blind on the 'net & only used it once..
