  1. Blimey Dave W! Lucky it wasn’t a smart motorway!
  2. I wish I knew! It looks like a localised failure. I checked the tyre pressures the previous day. The tyre was on the N/S rear and it made a rumbling noise for a few seconds before going bang! I should have asked the tyre fitters their opinion.
  3. It was on the outside lane of the M40 and I was doing 70! Lurching across to the hard shoulder was interesting!
  4. I always have a spare! My previous Defender was always getting punctures and once I had a blowout that caused a severe brown trouser moment! My Fiesta came without a spare and bought a skinny spare immediately!
  5. My TD5s alarm has an internal battery that is supposed to sound when the battery is disconnected, however the alarm battery is cream crackered and I can’t be bothered to replace it! Hopefully yours will be OK when the electrics have dried out.
  6. I’m glad you found it! Sorry I was vague about the exact location! I only know about the existence of the fuse because I managed to blow it whilst carrying out extensive dashboard repairs and upgrades during the first lockdown! Whilst the dash repair and upgrade worked fine, the alarm stopped working and there was a really loud ticking from behind the headlight when the ignition was on. After spending several days trying to figure it out, I took my TD5 to the local (non L R) garage who couldn’t fix it. Next I went to an indy LR specialist who couldn’t fix it either! Finally I went to a guy who works on his front drive; within a couple of minutes he found the problem and replaced the fuse!
  7. There is a fuse near the ECU, can't remember where exactly, but its 10 Amps!
  8. Are you Nige in disguise?! I alternately winced and chuckled at your post! It could have been so much worse!
  9. Welcome back Frank! I followed you out of the TAA forum shortly after you left!
  10. Before fitting the Mud unit, I had a nine LED bulb for around three years. The bulb coped with dimming without any problem. I’m pretty sure that I bought it from Mud before they started selling the complete fitting. I’ve just had a look on their website and I don’t think they sell them now. I’m fairly sure that I have the old fitting complete with the LED bulb somewhere...
  11. My daughter bought my wife a Queen Mummy mug for Mother’s Day and that started leaking after a few days! On a different subject, I stopped an annoying drip from a toilet cistern with rad seal and a kettle full of hot water!
  12. Some policies do offer the option of increased sums insured for contents in garages/outbuildings. Some premier insurance policies offer extra cover for garage contents as standard. If part of the garage contents is sports equipment like golf clubs or fishing tackle then increasing the Personal Possessions sum insured could be an option. if you have a stock of spares for your vehicle(s) then it could be worthwhile speaking with your motor insurers. Some companies (e.g. Adrian Flux) offer cover for spares.
  13. Listers in Droitwich would certainly do a good job, however they are very expensive! Suffice it to say that a service plus a fuel filter housing change cost well over a grand! I’ve not used them since! Whilst I worked in insurance for over 20 years, alas it was not in car insurance! As to the third party insurers liability to you, clearly there will be situations where it will prove impossible to restore the car e.g. damage by fire or a loss at sea (ferry sinking) etc. The insurers should try to put you back in the same position that you were in before the loss. As you have spent time and money upgrading your car, one solution would be for a suitable vehicle to be upgraded to the same spec as the damaged one. This could possibly allow some parts from the damaged car to be fitted to the new car. For the moment though, speak to your insurer and a solicitor if you have one. Also try to locate small bodyshops that can carry out a chassis swap etc. It might be worth calling Keith Baker in Wooten Wawen to see if he can do the work or perhaps recommend someone if he can’t help. Keith’s phone number is 07976 732134
  14. I bought some pre-cut, self adhesive foam for my hardtop 110. There was nothing to cover the ribs with, so I bought some cloth with a foam backing to cover them. The foam/cloth was stuck with carpet adhesive spray prior to fixing the self adhesive foam pads. I’ve not had any problem with condensation since fitting this, but just don’t ask me about leaks!!
  15. Actually, I had an issue with one of the indicator warning lights some years back that was fixed by removing and replacing the multipin connector to the panel. Hopefully this is something similar.
  16. Yikes! I’ve just seen the price of a new one! £300 or thereabouts!! If it is the LED that has failed, then I’ll see if the local computer repair guy can fix it. He is fully qualified and carries out surface mount repairs.
  17. I have a 2002 Defender TD5. The light on the dash no longer lights up. It doesn’t bother me, but I think this now an MOT fail. I’d rather get the parts before taking the dash apart. Is the bulb one of those little capless ones?
  18. It’s scary! My wife was looking online for a present to send to a relative who is currently down with Coronavirus. When I went on my iPad later the same day, the very things she was looking at popped up as adverts!
  19. Blimey! You are lucky! Go and buy a lottery ticket! Glad you and your home are OK!
  20. The problem has finally been solved!! l emailed Technozen, but I didn't receive a reply, however the indy LR garage did suggest a guy who operates from home over Stratford way. I made an appointment and went over there today. Before plugging in the diagnostic equipment he made a few basic checks. It turned out to be a blown fuse in the aux fuse box next to the ECU!! Problem solved in 10 mins for the princely sum of £20!
  21. Thanks Simon, I'll give them a call and discuss the problems.
  22. I had to remove all the switches on the centre panel when I swapped it over, however it was only necessary to take the back off each switch and then pop the switch itself out of the old panel. All the existing switches were reused. I'm not sure if the garages checked voltage drop with doors open or closed. However they were able to communicate with the ECU via the port and apparently it didn't report any missing wires. Dissapointingly though the LR specialist though didn't have a genuine Nanocom. I'm wondering if the 10AS unit lost some of its settings whilst the battery was disconnected... I think either of these two outfits could possibly help: https://remotekey.co.uk/land-rover-keys-remotes-alarms-immobiliser/range-rover-immobiliser-and-alarm-ecus/ https://www.technozen-electronics.co.uk/land-rover-10as-alarm-ecu-services/ However their services are not cheap! I'm tempted to hire a Nanocom, but the I've no experience of using one!
  23. I have a 2002 110 TD5. I recently replaced the instrument mounting binnacle for a Raptor one, because the original one was cracked and falling apart. At the same time I replaced the centre switch panel for a Mud Stuff double DIN one. Now it's all back together I have the following issues with the central locking/alarm: The indicators no longer flash when locking/unlocking - changing the fob battery had no affect. With the ignition on there is a constant loud ticking from the front nearside. If you try to lock the vehicle with a door left open, it should beep twice to warn you - it doesn't. Deliberately triggering the alarm sets off a relay somewhere (I can hear it clicking), but there is no siren or horn. I checked all the fuses and found no problems, but to be on the safe side I replaced fuses 6 and 27 with new ones. I have taken my Defender to two garages (the last one was a local independent LR specialist) and despite plugging it in to diagnostic equipment they can't find the problem.
