  1. I have just changed wifeys tyres on her 56 HSE. It had Synchros on but I put Pirelli Scorpions on and she has reported no problems at all.
  2. I have a '96 2.5 DSE and I had the suspension collapse on me within 3 months of buying it. Naively, I took it to LR and although it cost m3 £1,400 it ha snever give me any problems since. For that 1400, I got a full new air suspension. If I had known then what I know now ....... ie this site, LRO and rangerover.net, I would have done the job myself. But I love my RR and it's air suspension.
  3. We have similar lights on the top of our trucks ........... four huge spots. They come on when Main Beam is activated BUT we also have to have a switch inside the cab so as to be able to turn them off when Main Beam on. I would assume this applies to cars too.
  4. Sounds like you now have an air supspension fault! If you can work out what the fault is, then have a good read of these Forums and also here http://www.rangerovers.net/fixindex.html Don't go running to a dealer with it as it will cost you £1500 like mine did. If I knew then what I know now........
  5. Well, the prognosis after going on the machine was the worse One recon gearbox and a new torque convertor coming up. Thanx to the guys that recommended ............. I am more than happy with Chichester 4x4 especially as his labour charges are less than half the dealers. Will be hit with a bill for nearly 2k when we collect next week
  6. Thanx for the replies, guys. Have spoken to Chichester 4x4 and when it returns, that's where she will be going. Will update when I know more.
  7. Actually no LOL ................ wifey knows it is her fault as I had asked her 3 or 4 days before we went away if the car had been behaving and she would NOT let me take it out for a 'test drive' the day before. But needless to say, I haven't quite reminded her off this as I am sure she knows
  8. I have been told by the little garage that it 'is a major problem' but no way was I going to be turned over by a French dealer hence having it returned to England. As an aside, if anyone ever travels to Europe with their LR, then I would recommend the AA cover big time. They have been brilliant!!! Within 20 minutes of phoning their Euro HQ in Lyon, the tow truck arrived and took us to the garage. Fifteen minutes later and a taxi picked us up and took us along with all our luggage to Europcar where we were given a brand new hire car. Kept us fully informed since as to the state of play although we have had to change cars for one that is allowed to leave the country to enable us to get home. Has not cost us a penny YET. That will come when the car is repaired lol
  9. A few weeks ago, I posted on here about a problem my wife had. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=41731 Well, the **** has really hit the fan now. Wifey said the car was running ok and thus I believed her. We left last Saturday morning for our bi-annual trip to Brittany. As soon as I drove out of the ferry port at Caen, I sensed a problem and was not amused. As I drove around the ring road, I lost the drive a couple of times. When we were on a series of long hills and on cruise control, the revs suddenly flew up as the drive was lost and then as the revs dropped the drive would kick back in but by then the speed had dropped so the kick down would work and the drive was lost again. When we left the hills the car behaved perfectly, and for the next three hours there was no problem. Then just 11 kms from our destination, as I came off a roundabout, I lost the drive completely. The result is her beloved Hippo is now in a small garage over in Brittany awaiting the AA to arrange its collection and return to the UK. Luckily the wife, as always, had arranged for full Euro cover from the AA and I have had the VERY dubious distinction of driving around all week in a Renault Kangoo (have told wifey to shoot me if I ever look like buying one!!) The help I need now is this ........ I have the AA returning the car straight to a LR Dealer in Chichester as it obviously needs to go onto a diagnostic machine and find the fault as the French garage did not have the equipment to faultfind on it. Is there anyone in the Petersfield/Portsmouth/Chichester area that has the equipment to do this?? How about the repairs once it is known what is wrong?? I have the facility to move the car once it is back by pick up. I am not trying to get a job done on the cheap BUT I bloody object to putting money into a dealers pocket if the same job can be carried out by a small operation that isn't going to turn me over on labour costs.
  10. Have you tried writing direct to LR HQ?? As you say, for a 3 yr old car, this is not good mechanics.
  11. I thought your English was very good and I fully understood your explanation!! Well done
  12. You lucky man!!! About a month after I bought my first RR last March, I got the dreaded fault message. It cost me £1,500 down at the LR dealer at Port Solent!!! Four new springs and a compressor.
  13. Wifey phoned today. She had been out in her '52 TD4 diesel automatic. She described something along the lines off clutch slip. Not good thought I. So when I got home tonight, I took it for a drive. We have some large hills around here so I got it on a few hills but nothing happened. We were meandering home with no pressure on the throttle when it happened!! It was not 'clutch slip' as described by wifey but more off 'slipping into neutral'. It was doing 2000 rpm when I suddenly heard the engine note increase and the revs shot up to 3000 with no increase in speed. As soon as I lifted my foot, the revs dropped and it was back in gear. It would seem this has happened about 3 times over the winter ............ any clues please, guys??
  14. Wifey changed her sports jobbie 2 years ago for a '52 TD4 ........ a three door 2 litre thing with the detachable roof. All I can say is she loves it, and I am very impressed by it's performance. We use it for a week in France twice a year and I was amazed the first time I loaded it up!! We go from Caen across towards Rennes on our journey and there are some monster hills en route. Even fully loaded and little old me driving it (I am 21 stone lol), it still holds top gear all the way up on cruise control.
  15. Oooooooooops, sorry, Steve and Fridge ............ profile now amended. I had forgotten to fill it in. I was really looking for someone to do its services etc ( I am a first time RR owner ) who isn't going to charge me the ridiculous rates Guy Salmon does. I have just had the classic EAS fault which according to Mr. Salmons darling little operatives required 4 new airbags and a compressor. Hence the £1600 bill. I know I could have got it done a bit cheaper and if I had the time, could have done it myself but I work away in Europe a lot. I shall have a look at the Shires Club asap. Thanx for the tip. Sorry for hijacking your thread, Mucdup
  16. Steve_D, I notice you're from Waterlooville.... as you can see I am just up the road and I am looking for someone who knows about P38's so I don't have to pay Guy Salmon's down at Pompey another £1600 next time it goes wrong. Do you know anyone local to us? Or even yourself?
  17. I have a '96 with the BMW engine and I have found it fine. It's the same engine as in their 325's apparrently. I get good fuel consumption on a steady run ....... 28.9 which was 2 hours of motorway and then 2 hours across A roads back home. In fact I love my P38 and am just waiting to win the lottery so I can buy an all singing all dancing one lol
  18. I have just read this post, BBC ........... what patience you must have and what a wonderful post describing the said work. Thank you for the time and effort you put into the post.
