  1. Yep, I am Vehicle Registrations Officer for the S2 club To register a used vehicle for the first time you need to complete a form V55/5, send it off to DVLA with the appropriate documentation, in your case MOT against the VIN, insurance against the VIN, the "cast document" and whatever proof of your ID that they ask for and the fee which I think is £55 registration fee plus the tax. All this is because now registration and tax are all done at the same time so you have to prove that itis road legal (it hasnt always been the case, they used to be separate). You need to speak to the MOT station and ask them to check with DVSA if they are not sure but personally I would be looking for an MOT station that know land rovers and know what they are doing. .(I heard of an MOT station that tried to fail a Wolf because they thaought the sparewheel mounted on the side was dangerous, fortunately the cars owner stood his ground and insisted they check with DVSA) Peter
  2. I know it says that but I know of one that was knocked back last week because it didnt have an MOT (it doesnt need one but it wouldnt pass and DVLA have sent SGS to look at it) Peter
  3. Dont shorten a 110 chassis you get into the whole realm of modified vehicles and kit cars with DVLA Use a 100" disco chassis and keep it registered as a disco, you can put whatever body on it you want. Vehicles with a separate chassis it is the chassis that provides the vehicles identity in DVLA 's eyes. Make sure the VIN is easy to read in the correct place on the chassis. Peter
  4. DVLA rules are very strange about the requirement of an MOT on the vehicle to be able to transfer a cherished plate from it, They dont appear to make any allowance for MOT exempt vehicles (this has recently cropped up on the S2 forum). They must have a reason. it would help if they explained Peter
  5. It really needs to be still bolted to the chassis or to a jig when major surgery is involved. That is repairable by thr right person. Peter
  6. We have a pre cast concrete garage that originally had a corrucagted cement roof and 2 wooden barn doors. Some years ago I changed the roof to a slated pitched roof and the changed the doors to a 3 section side openning door. The centre section is hinged to the left hand section and the left and right hand sections are hinged to the frame. as it is not used as a garage but as a workshop normal access is via the centre door and if wider access is needed then the outer parts can be opened. Peter
  7. As the Series 2 Club VRO all these who are trying to fiddle the system just make life difficult for genuine people. One place where folk fall foul is in replacing dumb irons and not stamping the chassis number or VIN on the replacement. DVLA use the number stamped on the chassis as the vehicle identifier and if their inspector doesnt find a number he will report back that he cannot identify the vehicle.. New replacement chassis should also have the number stamped to avoid any difficulties. I am dealing with a case at the moment where due to no stamped in number DVLA want to go down the IVA and Q plate route or the built up Classic route, neither of which will work (I will not go into details here) and so there are big problems about. Peter
  8. For the wiring diagram, unless you want to draw your own, stick to the standard colour codes, it makes trouble shooting easier. I will plug again the wiring diagrams on the S2 club forum, they are in colour with the correct colours for the wires. You will need to work out the cable sizes from the loads that you intend I have 2 fuse boxes on the bulkhead, one ignition controlled and one permanent live. I also have another fuse box at the rad panel for the headlamp feeds and the electric fan. The relays for these are there too. For the rear tub lights I have a connection on the chassis rail next to the underseat fuel tank. All the cables to the rear lights run in flexible plastic conduit inside the tub cappings, the only exposed ones are from the rea lights to the towing socket Peter
  9. S! 80" panels go to CKD shop S2 tub pannels go to Goosefoot panels. Unit 1, International House, Springhill Road, Burnley, Lancashire BB112LQ Peter
  10. For S2 wiring diagrams in glorious technicolour look on the seies 2 club forum. I used them (with additions) to rewire my land rover a couple of years ago. Make uase of relays for the headlights to take the strain off the aged light and dip switches and take the opportunity to fit extra fuses. Peter
  11. The attached document was sent to all motor clubs registered by DVLA under the V765 scheme in November 2017 Peter Q registration changes Nov 2017.pdf
  12. This works for me, it is an original Outdoor revolution Movelite, borrowed from our camper when we got a different one, I also sometimes use a 50 year old frame tent
  13. The V888 search is a bit of pot luck at the moment I am afraid as sometimes they will play ball and others not plus what you get back is so heavily redacted due to GDPR it is almost not worth having. In this case it will only give the information from first registration which is later than the build year of the car. Peter
  14. The civilian registration of "cast" military vehicels depends on many things. The era that it was done, how conscientious the owner was and where it was registered. For a period of time they would get the registration appropriate to the year it was registered not the build year, then the rules changed and you could not have a registration newer tha the build year so you either got an age related plate or a Q plate. When they brought this in the age related plate was straightforward if the person applying for the registration filled in the forms correctly and handed in the cast document supplied when it left the military. However people didnt realise how important the cast document was and either it got lost or trhey didnt bother (they are one time documents with no chance of a duplicate). Without the cast document DVLA decided they couldnt date the vehicle and gave a Q registration. There was a proviso with this registration. If within the first 12 months of the Q registration being given the original registerer, if they could find the evidence to prove the build date could have the Q replaced with an age appropriate registration. DVLA became somewhat lax about the first 12 months and the original registerer for a number of years but guess what people abused the priviledge and so for the last 3 years they have gone back to applying the rules rigidly so if you buy a Q plate vehicle then you have little or no chance of changing the Q for an age related reg. Trying to register a new or used vehickle without comprehensive evidence of the build date is fraaught with difficulties. Peter
  15. Steve you contact me by email at vro@series2club.co.uk explaining your problem then we will open a daialogue. Peter (Peter Holden Series 2 Club Vehicle Registration Officer)
  16. What is the betting that if you send the registration document and a letter to DVLA that they then ask for an inspection. make sure your chassis number is stamped on the dumb iron and matches the chassis plate and the V5 before you start.. The Series 2 club is authorised by DVLA under their V765 scheme to inspect S2 and S3 land rovers. Peter
  17. Tony Wood AKA Welding Wood buys any bulkhead parts that he doesnt make himself when repairing bulkheads fro Classic bulkheads. Peter
  18. If you would rather have 4 wheels you could look for one of these. It is a Jiffy pickup truck, a kit marketed by Indespension the trailer people in the 1980s. The front end is straight mini front subframe with power plant, the rest isd a ladder chassis more sturdy than a land rover We turned one into a camper in the lat 80s, we had to stretch the chassis in the middle by 300mm to get the Romahome demountable body to fit Peter
  19. Chassis accepted as a replacement item if you use new of the same spec and as with recon engines the old number should be stamped on the new item. Note in the days before DVLA tightened everything up when S3s were being made Land Rover would sell you a replacement chassis for a S2 but what you got was an S3 chassis, I believe it all stopped when they moved to coil sorings (the last bet is just hearsay) Peter
  20. GDI products on Ebay sell quite a few of the bits you are after, have a look. Whatever you do, cut the drivers dumb iron off your chassis and keep it. Stamp your chassis number on your new dumb iron. (Should your land rover ever come to the attention of DVLA or VOSA then the stamped chassis is what they use as the vehicle identifier, not the chassis plate that is rivetted or screwed on elsewhere) Peter
  21. I am struggling to work out how you could drive it without one of the front wheel bearings and if you could how you wouldnt know that anything is wrong Peter
  22. A slight drop of superglue rountd the edge may stop it frpm turning sufficient to drill it out. Peter
  23. James Williams who runs HNJ is an accomplished engineer but he is also a series land rover user and thus the tools and other parts that he designs and makes. All the tools that he makes he uses on a regular basis so if a tool is made from acetal then it is up to spec to do the job. Peter
  24. You need to do something about the ammeter though. I replaced mine with a temp gauge and have a stand alone volt meter. Peter
