  1. Have a chat with Pete and see if it can be done online. Or see if just swapping the ecu for a tricked-up one will be ok? If so, I might be able to bring one out for you in December when I visit my folks. http://www.bellautoservices.co.uk/index.php?page=news Tom
  2. Howdy I fitted the 1.2 ratio to my TD5 Defender and then took it to BAS, who got rid of the egr and centre box and then mapped it. Now have absolutely no hassle pulling away on any hill. Will be well worth your while to have a chat with Pete at BAS and see if he can do anything for you. Tom
  3. I'll second that. Turners head + fitting kit + labour equaled around £2300. Get the oil tested before you buy. Will cost around £37, but well worth it. Tom
  4. Matt Can you share any info that you get? I've also got a Webasto that I plan on fitting in my TD5 Defender at some stage... Tom
  5. Hi I've also just got a new Freelander Webasto FBH for next to nothing off Ebay. Would you mind letting me know if you have installed yours in your Defender, and where you fitted the unit? Thanks Tom
  6. Hi Shaggy I had a similar problem to you, and I'm not that happy with the sprog sitting in the middle seat up front (have visions of her bashing her pip on the gearlever if I crash). So, have a look on fleabay for LDV rear seats or minibus seats. They're generaally made by Isringhausen ISRI, have TUV approval and come with integrated inertia seat belts. I picked up two for £15. Haven't fitted them yet, as I am still waiting for my local fabricator to finish making kick-arse base plates to make sure they stay in place in case of an accident. I am fitting them rear facing to save as much space as possible in the back. Cheers Tom
  7. There are a few companies out there (Liveridge 4x4 for example) that will put windows + seats in your van for you; I was quoted £2000 a few years back to get the job done. However, installing seats + windows will result in your vehicle having to be reclassified, and instead of paying £180/yr road tax you will have to pay a heap more. The alternative is to install a middle seat in the front, or bench seats. I've gone one step further and given my missus (who usually ends up sitting in the back if there are more than three of us to cart around) additional creature comforts like ply linning and a load liner. Tom
  8. I had a similar issue with my 110, and it turned out that the bolts on the front prop were slightly loose. Check these out before you go down the expensive route. Tom
  9. I had both the G & T boxes on my TD5 110 Van exchanged by Ashcrofts about a month ago. Cost around £1600 fitted (this included the 1.2 gearing). The work was carried out by Autoland 4x4 near Milton Keynes - so it will worth asking Ashcrofts if they outsource work to anyone down your way. My Van previously had the 1.4 gearing + a GKN overdrive. Giving the engine a very good thrashing, top end was around 60 to 65 mph without the GKN, and with the it on, around 80 to 85 mph. The best mph I achieved with the GKN & a light foot was around 38 mpg. I'm very happy with the 1.2 conversion, and would recomend it to anyone with a 1.4 box. Pull away from traffic lights for example is much more relaxing and you aren't in 3rd by the time you've crossed the lights, nor do you have the hassle of the 30 mph limit of the GKN. Top end is slightly down on the GKN - at a push around 80 mph. As you're probably aware, the 1.2 does not affect low ratio, and on the TD5, the anti-stall still runs at 4 mph (which is fantastic for traffic jams!!). Not too sure what the mpg is, but I'm probably down a bit, as I've also fitted BFG's 265 75's vs my old Avon 7.5's. I have also read that some of the TDi's came with a 1.9 ratio, so if you do 95% road and no towing, this might also be worth considering. Cheers Tom
