  1. That's a mod well worth doing. You won't need to try and change many drop arm ball joints before thinking that it's ridiculous that they didn't fit the disco arm in the factory.
  2. Thanks everyone ! Loads to go at . Though I think my wife would be annoyed if I got a girlfriend ? I'll have a look on eBay for a rag bundle and one of those big blue roles of paper towel.
  3. Weird - some models have the instructions some don't. Google brought this up near the top though: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic4567.html Maybe useful ?
  4. I've never actually bought any rags - but all those that have made their way to me have been used up ..... So I wondered where everyone gets theirs ? Do you buy bundles ? Cheap sheets ? Any suggestions folks ?
  5. I'm about to fit a 300tdi snorkel to my td5 .... There are instructions available for download on the safari website. I was after buying spares for mine - but sadly safari no longer sell spares.
  6. This was asked once before and the response that stuck in my mind was 'how does a spring know which way around it is ?' So when I fitted progressive springs to the back of mine I made a point of putting them in how it best suited the spring retainer ..... But also explaining to then which way was up
  7. Thanks everyone - I just need to confirm the pipe size into the airbox and I can start sorting it out.
  8. I've managed to pick up a 2nd hand Safari Snorkel - SS575HF. It is though missing the internal pipework. It's the one that has the integrated pipe that passes though the wing, rather than seals against the wing. It used to be sold for td5's but is now only sold to fit a 300tdi. My question is - would it be a disaster to swap out all the standard inlet pipe work and run a single pipe (flexi rubber with a metal core) straight to the airbox ? Positives are that it would mean only 2 joins instead of the 6 in the standard set up - it would also maintain a larger diameter of 75mm to the box, instead of being reduced to 60 mm. The negative is that it would mean losing the water trap in the standard pipework. I know the intake cowl on the snorkel states it can shed water - thought I don't know how effective that is nor how much of an issue it is ? Any help greatly appreciated. Stephen
  9. On a tangent - might this be your next engine conversion ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161276034414
  10. I think the window and side door are a great addition - the extra light and easy entry will make a big difference.
  11. Excellent ! I'm already looking forward to tomorrow's update
  12. I was referring though to fitting the whole turbo and manifold. I have a 200 tdi going into a series and swapped out the turbo and manifold for a better fit.
  13. Excuse my ignorance - but does this mean that if a 300 turbo is fitted to a 200tdi it should have the boost adjusted down ?
  14. Is it not worth buying a good 2nd hand one ?
  15. I've only seen black or silver checker plate .....
  16. Thanks Boydie ! For the record, I found out it's the same as the disco one.
  17. Thanks Mikey - they do a 6mm too I notice, which is I suspect the set screw size on mine.
  18. That's kind of my thinking Mikey. Would it be worth centring the axle location by moving the rear spring hanger back ? It would mean standard props, no body mods needed and reduce the amount of extra length at the front.
  19. How much further forward will it move the axle ? Do you have any plans for the bodywork to accommodate that ?
  20. I think I'll take it off to see what it's like underneath and also see what I think of it without it. I can let you know here if it's going to stay off then ?
  21. Thanks for the clarification Dave. Lewis, it's just the aesthetic - I don't really use them, I can't remember the last time I needed to stand on them and I fancy seeing how it's look a bit plainer and more standard looking. The chequer plate that's on it is good quality and I suppose another option would be to paint it - but doubt that would really work.
