  1. Let me have one more go .... Would a boost controlled VNT, incurring the MPG reduction as described, still compare favourably (consumption wise) to a standard turbo on the same engine ?
  2. Lol - I think I still haven't managed to articulate my question. I must be tireder than I realised... But thank you for your efforts !
  3. From what I've read they are excellent - but too pricy for me.
  4. Sorry I wasn't clear - what I meant to say was is how does that scenario compare with a non vnt turbo.
  5. Is that; more back pressure and MPG than an optimally controlled VNT; or than a standard Turbo (non VNT) in that situation ?
  6. I don't get the apparent contradiction here ?
  7. Turbo, did you do a 'build' thread for your turbo install ? I'd love a vnt on my td5 but the cost of a bolt on conversion and the complexity of an electronic control for the boost are both huge barriers.
  8. Yes - that sounds like a plan. They do hold their value well too.
  9. Can you test drive one with your wife ? Or better still borrow one ? My reply was a little flippant - the truth is that it's not for everyone but for you and your family it may be fine ? For us it feels like an adventure every time we go out....
  10. As I understand it you can't fit a centre seat due to the legalities that a late model like yours must adhere to. That said you can't fit a child seat on a centre seat anyway. Mine is a daily driver and it's a hardtop - no rear seats. My wife sits in the middle and a child seat in the passenger seat. I need to look at fitting a forward facing rear seat in the back if we are going to start driving into Europe though.... I guess your answer is all down to what your wife actually makes of it .... ? Negatives are: Noisy, quite a bit of maintenance, poor economy, back seats are impractical, usually let water in etc etc Positives are: I love it. Don't know if that's much help ?
  11. That sounds good. I've googled it though and haven't found anything, it seems lost amongst 200tdi conversions in 90's.
  12. A chap on AURLO said he converted his VNT to a boost actuator and that it ran fine. Yet the diesel tuning forums seem to discount that for a number of reasons.
  13. [cough] [/cough]Seriously though - I hope you'll put a thread up for that. I'll stop digressing now.
  14. Excellent. My Dad had one in the 50's I plan a patina retaining restoration of my 80" S1 - perhaps we can take them both out laning
  15. Great ! What's the plans for the Willys ? I have a soft spot for those.
  16. I had to google it : http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_(Da_Ba_Dee) A pop song about being blue inside and out
  17. There's not a lot wrong with the 300tdi. So depending on what you plan to use it for ? It may be just fine as it is ?.
  18. Totally had me at the beginning there .
  19. It's only a matter of time I feel..... Only a matter of time....
