  1. Oh there’s no pressure - just an open offer 😊
  2. He says he wants to go back ! So two opportunities for tea on both legs of that journey 😊
  3. Well done !! And thanks for sharing. When you come back up - call in for a cup of tea. You’ll pass me on the way 😊
  4. I blocked mine off and it’s been fine …. What you can’t do though is take it out and blank it off. The gear gives support to the camshaft iirc.
  5. No no no !! What you need …. Is a Mercedes Sprinter.
  6. Remarkable work again. Just on the bigger job - are you focusing on the bulkhead because you need to cycle the suspension with the bodywork on to finalise shock and link positions ?
  7. I’m revisiting thoughts around this … has anyone else had any further experiences worth sharing ? The internet still seems split on them - but they’ve come to mind recently with meeting a chap who does lots of miles on MT’s and just uses beads for balancing his wheels.
  8. I also think they are unlikely to have retained that knowledge - if you think of how much their product emphasis has changed, how many changes of ownership they had during Defender production, what their staff turn over has probably been, and how big a voice engineering has vs. Design in modern day JLR … I can easily imagine them not having retained enough ‘corporate memory’ to not repeat the same mistakes.
  9. I’ve a seized one from my old td5 in a drawer - ready for a gap to try just this ! I haven’t run sufficiently short of projects yet to try it yet though...
  10. I’d not come across the term ‘displacement activity’. I would think my life is full of them ..
  11. Just to be devils advocate - there are lots of people heading out in the types of vehicle that we are saying will be stolen or break … is that happening a lot ? I’m reminded of that Canadian family of 5 who shipped their series 1 to the UK and drove it to Singapore to recreate the 1950’s University Expedition. I mean I can’t think of anyone making a worse choice of vehicle, for what they want, whilst going into some marginal places, with no personal security and having a great time?
  12. At my ages it’s too far away. The toilet block that is.
  13. Don’t know if it’s an open thread .. but here is the build: https://www.lrsoc.com/forum/index.php?topic=35425.msg275522#msg275522
  14. There is a super talented chap in the series 1 club built a 107 camper just recently - and has already put many thousands of miles on it. It’s pretty inspiring.
  15. I’ve talked to him (Stephen) a bit over the years - he’s part of the inspiration for me to use mine. On his trips - one thing he does do … is lots and lots of planning.
  16. There is also the bit where people can just follow their enthusiasm? even if they are not making wise - or even good! - decisions. I suppose giving people the freedom to make choices we don’t agree with only changes if you think they are making choices that put them or others in danger?
  17. I think the whole roof tents are to get away from lions idea is flawed for other reasons too…
  18. I was about to say the same - and they are getting some good use from it ! Looks like they’ve had some fab trips.
  19. I just stumbled across this - which is rather good ! https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/615524/2017-04336.pdf
  20. It’s ugly too - but it’s more capable than the defender, newer, aircon, more space ? 😀
  21. Or something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194924725775? With £300k to do it up ?
