  1. Interesting quote from RPI - needs further investigating! update - swapped AFM for another - no change, although it is not known 100% that this AFM is OK (Simon I might still be up for yours at some time!) Also tried taking the K&N off and putting the original back on.... yep ... no change! Next on the list is to pull all the pipes off and check for cracks/holes or perishes! i have already had to change a couple of fuel pipes due to them being perished, so I suppose anything is possible.
  2. Thanks Donald. Might just stick to 235's then..... unless ........ ~wanders off thinking about a lift~
  3. yet another question! I am thinking about a new set of boots for the Rangie - (If I ever get it to run right!). As it will be a second set that will also go on the Defender I am thinking along the lines of 235/75/16 or 245/70/16 Colway MT's. 235's should not be a problem. But what about 245's, I am told (by Fisha) that 245 is as big as you can go on a standard set up. Is anyone running 245? Do they rub arches or restrict turning circle?
  4. Hi Chrispy. The symptoms you describe are almost the same as those in my other post. I am not further forward with it, getting really annoyed by it now!
  5. Now I am not going to comment about anyone I know trying to fit a 6 foot light into a 5 foot space.....
  6. Oi!! I expect that kind of comment from Mr Potter.... but I thought you were better than that...
  7. hmmm ... yeah you know what I mean I will let you know as soon as I have a plan.
  8. Simon. Yes I have been through the workshop manual. Gradually ticking everything of. Funnily enough one of the few things I still have to try is the AFM. Did you say you had a spare that I could swap you for your ECU?
  9. Good points all round. I think the false floor is the way to go. If it is done correctly then the floor should be level with the rear seats in the flat position rather than folded fully up against the driver seat (which I cant do anyway as the seat is fully back!) Looks like a bit of MDF'ing will be required And since I have acquired an amp and Sub's a speaker box of some description migh also be called for
  10. Cold and dark!! I'll have you know I didn't build a garage with enough lights to be visible from space to work in the dark! (I got a sparky that you and I both know to fit "what he thought I needed" by way of lights!!! - he got a bit carried away!) Cold... hmm complared to where you are possibly... here it is positively tropical!
  11. Negative to both. Not re-checked the timing since the dizzy was done. Tonight's job I fear. And forgot about the fuel pressure. How do I check it again? (damn those LRE folks closing the site when I need to use the search facility!!) Oh if only it was a Tdi
  12. Niall, I have considered wheel carriers, but am going to explore other (cheaper) alternatives first. The spare cannot come out of it home because of the tank location. To physically have enough room to get at the wheel, the tank needs to be almost in the middle of the boot - which defeats the purpose of the location. The tank is fitted with the control box towards the side panel and window rather than towards the boot - this was the manu's recomendation to keep the filler pipe as short as possible. So not having the wheel in the well gives a neater job - albeit a bit more fiddly to get the control box. The wheel sitting higher is not likley to be a problem - I have in the back of my mind the idea that I will darken the windows in the boot area.
  13. Yes, at least if you mean the Coolant Temp sensor, located just behind the dizzy.
  14. Right, here's the problem. I am fitting my LPG tank in a North/South behind the single fold rear seat. This allows me to fold down the other side of any larger loads. (I have already spoken to a couple of LPGA installers who say this is acceptable) After a bit of playing around with the tank, I found that i could not get the spare wheel out with the tank in place. So I have decided to remove the spare and push the tank a up against the wheel arch. I will then make a box to cover the tank with storage space in the redundant wheel well. However, this leaves a problem of what to do with the spare. a) dont carry one, just keep a bottle of that squirt in stuff and an air compressor B) weld a nut on the floor and floor mount wheel (either with or without a false floor) c) make a new bracket and mount the wheel on the right hand side. Move jack etc to the newly created storage in old wheel well. Any experience of any of these set ups? pro's, con's, don't be dafts?? Cheers.
  15. Hello all, the saga continues.... As first posted on the "old place" a few weeks ago my newly acquired 3.9 auto Rangie has a couple of running problem. It had stood for best part of 2 years before I bought it, but has since clocked up about 3000 miles. It hunts wildly at Idle, ranging from almost stalling to idle at 2000 rpm. It drives fine on the open road, pulls well and everything seems to be in order, but when you pull up to a stop - like at a junction- the revs die and it almost stalls (sometimes it does stall). It can be cured by putting it into Neutral, after a few secs the revs recover to about 1500-2000rpm then drop back to normal. As far as I am aware it is standard except for a K&N and full SS Sport exhaust. The problem is much worse then the cooling temp sensor is plugged in, so much so it is almost impossible to drive in traffic. So far I have tried the following.... Full Service (oils, plugs etc) Replaced HT leads Replaced Coolant temp Sensor Flushed all the carp out the fuel tank and cleaned filter on pump replaced perished vacuum hose Replaced Road Speed sensor Swapped Stepper motor for another Re-attached Dizzy Bobs (they were flapping around not doing much) Swapped ECU for another I think this is everything. I really need more suggestions as I have started the LPG installation but would like it running OK on Petrol before plumbing in the gas. Help!! pleaaaaassssseeeeee
  16. Hi Simon. No. The problem was not solved by the ECU. I am beginning to run out of ideas! I will post a new thread on here with the problem and everything I have tried so far. Hopefully I have missed something. I will get the ECU back to you as soon as I can.
  17. Hmm, yeah I did didnt I! Not that a Dead Defender and a semi-dead Rangie isnt enough! However, At least I am not wandering round the country staying in posh hotels and claiming to be working! One positive is that at least you have a garage floor that you can actually see again!
  18. Hello Nic! (Stephen really should keep his computer more secure!!) So you up for the drive to Peebles then? Get your finger out and you might even have passed your test by then! A few lessons with old quickdraw and you will be laughing. (just have plenty of tea and he will be fine!) greeny boy! (i'll greeny boy you!!!!!)
  19. Andy, The Defender clutch went, plus it was starting to leak a lot of oil. Also I was given a standard 200tdi 110 to drive for a couple of days and I suddenly realised how lacking in power my 90 was in comparison. So all these things together point to a strip and rebuild. So I think the Defender will remain as the everyday driver and polisher, while the RR will be the toy. Although the way fuel prices are going the RR might see a lot more action. So as soon as the Rangie is running properly the Defender will get the TLC is deserves.
  20. Yup... mines arrived this morning too ... I'm number 10 Steve.. are you begining to wish that I hadn't set the challenge of having Nic's 90 finished by the Forest Drive? I am . However, It will be ready (or reddy??) and well worth it.
  21. I think the problem is that a few of the body parts are mine! I just thought they were for "stock"
  22. Simon, I am even closer to the A77 than stephen, so you could even drop it straight to me if you like. Will call you tomorrow. Greg
  23. Simon , It is a 3.9. What i really need to do first is swap out the ECU to determine if that is where the fault lies. If so then I might be interested in buying it. As for the bumper, I will take it off your hands anytime. Might try for this weekend, but hoping to fit the gas to the Rangie and need to help Steve with Nic's 90 rebuild, so that it is ready for the forest drive on Sept 11th. Will let you know. (If you happen to see Steve, dump it on him and he will bring it to me )
  24. No the RR is the offroader and the Defender will still be the daily driver... unless of course fuel prices here continue to rise, then the RR on Gas will become the daily driver! But then again.... the RR is really too nice to "waste" .... oh I dont know!! At the moment the Defender is dead anyway, so it is academic! Simon, Thanks for the offer - if you want to donate it to the cause then I will gladly accept it! Anything else you want shot of? I dont suppose either of you have a spare ECU lying around that I could borrow? I still can't get it running right!!
  25. Niall, Thanks for the offer of the ARB. Would certainly look the part, however I am not sure that the front springs are up to the weight! (plus if I start taking bits of the project who knows where it will end - you will come back to a pile of bits on the floor ) I might have a rake aroung Stephen's "Parts Dept" - he might have one spare, but to be honest it is only likely to be off for a couple of days - I am in the process of making the spoiler "quick release" for offroading, but managed to sheer the bolts on the bumper, so need it off to grind them out. Plus if it is off it might as well get some paint and one of the bars that hold the end caps is not looking to clever so it might need a small weld. Depending on the condition when I get it off I might just replace it - I know Andy has a few at the moment. Greg
