  1. I took the centre console out today for another job so that might help with access to get the wires tidy.
  2. The conversion of my Discovery commercial is almost complete. I am now at the finishing off stage and part of this is fitting a new aftermarket stereo. However, the head unit will not fit into the space under the centre console - it protrudes by about 1 - 2 inches. I know this has been a common problem, but is there anything that can be done to get a snug fit.
  3. Thanks Dan, Unfortunately your post came too late. I spoke with your people (I am already insured through you with another vehicle and have been for many years) but they were not able to give me a competitive price for this or indeed my Discovery that I also insured. Thanks anyway.
  4. Great thanks - thats about where I thought. I just need to remember to reset the counter each time I fill up
  5. I have just got my "new" Discovery on the road, but there is a fault with the fuel sender so the gauge show empty regardless of how much fuel is in the tank. So, until such times as I get the sender sorted out I need to guess when to fill up - roughly how many miles should I get from a Full tank in a 200tdi.\ Thanks
  6. Good call bushwacker - spoke to cherished today and got disco 3rd party AND Defender laid up for less than 180.
  7. Funnily enough it was Swinton that I had problem with alloys with. I think they might find my policy cancelled with them.
  8. I spoke to NFU today about laid up insurance for my 90 but they were not interested - even when I said I would also need to insure my Disco. And I had a great conversation with my current insurers when I asked about change of vehicle from the 90 to the Disco - they asked if it was modified and I said not to my knowledge, they then asked if it had alloys and I said yes, were they factory fit or extras. I said as far as I knew they were from the factory but it is a 20 year old Discovery that I have owned for 1 month, but the alloys are Land Rover genuine Tornados as fitted to Discoveries of that age. Them - we need to know for sure, go to a Land Rover dealer and ask them. me - eh?? but the alloys are Land Rover genuine Tornados as fitted to Discoveries of that age, with standard tyres Them - but we need to know how it came out the factory. How much are the alloys worth? me - about £50 Them - but what is the replacement value. me - no idea, they are 20 years old and as far as I know no longer manufactured new Them - if you had a claim we would only use new parts so we need to know. me - Good bye! Phoned Flux - no problem sir, that will be £200 for 3rd party F&T and that included legal cover and Off Road cover. I still think that is a bit much for a 20 year old Discovery but that seems to be the way of the world these days - Ambulance chasers and whiplash victims driving everyone's insurance up.
  9. I just spoke to NFU... not interested as I am not an existing customer!! It is great to hear that NFU are doing so well that they can afford to turn customers away - after all I may only be looking for laid up cover for the 90, but I will also be looking for full insurance for the Disco.
  10. Thanks Retro - that's the kind of figure I was hoping for. Does the policy specify where is it kept - ie in locked garage etc. The 90 is kept in the garage most of the time but I hope to be able to keep it on the drive if (when) I need to use the garage for the Disco.
  11. I am taking my Defender off the road for a few months with the intention of giving it a tidy up. I will transfer the insurance to the Disco thus leaving the 90 uninsured. Given the current "popularity" this is probably not the best plan - so before I approach the insurers can anyone give me a rough guide to the cost and are there any specialist insurers that I should talk too?
  12. I thought you fitted the front tow hitch for your winch .... I take it you could self recover ?
  13. I have tried the Forum search but it does not seem to bring up what I am looking for. Has anyone made a custom roof console for a Discovery 1? I want to mount a CB, and possibly a few other bits and bobs and need some ideas. The car is a 200tdi, 3dr, with no sunroofs. If anyone has plans that would be great.
  14. I have had another look and it looks like the cracking runs almost the entire length of the gutters - would a bitumen paint (or something similar) be a better option to paint the entire gutter?
  15. Cheers Simon. Glad it worked. Looking forward to seeing it. Have you done your chassis change?
  16. Thanks Teabag - that was kinda my thoughts. Now all I need to do is decide how to tackle it - a) seal gutter with silicon (or other ???) and see what happens. or b) strip interior out and properly check where leak comes from.
  17. Try this ... http://www.discovery2.co.uk/pdf_files/accessories.html It is about a 43MB file - and was being very slow to download and I couldn't be bothered waiting for it to check if it is the right one - so sorry if it is wrong, but worth a look.
  18. It does not seem to be on the copy of RAVE that I have on my PC but I am sure it is on the older CD copy that I have on my laptop - if you are still struggling let me know and I will have a look - the laptop takes about a fortnight to boot up so I am not going to start it tonight.
  19. There is a bit of info here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f8/fitting-spot-lights-directly-bumper-46826-2.html It also states in the tread that it is in Rave - but I cannot find it ... yet
  20. Simon - It is fairly straightforward without the instructions - I did it on my TD5. However, I seem to remember finding fitting instructions on the web - Google is your friend! In fact, thinking as I type, it might even by in Microcat.....
  21. My recently acquired D1 commercial has been in my garage for the last few months getting side windows and rear seats fitted and a few other oil bits changed. However it has been outside for the last week or so and the interior is now very wet. My initial reaction was that the 2nd hand window seals that I fitted were leaking - but on inspection tonight the headlining is very wet above the window level. As far as I can see there is no sign of water under the windows apart from the seats and carpet around the drivers door area - so for the moment I have ruled out the windows. I appears to be coming from higher. Are there any known problem areas for water leaks? Would damage to the roof gutter cause a leak? The previous owner has roof rack bars fitted and the gutter is slightly out of shape and badly cracked - could this let water in? My plan is to remove the headlining completely and then get the hose out to see where the water comes in - but I am trying to get ahead of the game if there are known leak hotspots.
  22. Looks like Coniston Green - which would you right for the year. But as Western says it could be anything. Assuming it is an LR colour then I would say either Coniston or the later Belize Green. You say it has had a respray - were the body panels replaced? - it is likely the original colour will still be on the inside of wings or underside of tub etc etc
  23. Thanks Chaps... I assumed as much. I knew you were exempt from Tax as long as it was DIRECTLY to a pre-booked MOT but wasn't sure about insurance. Just need to talk to my insurance company then.
  24. Title says it all really, can you legally drive a car to MOT station and back without insurance? I have a Discovery that I have had in storage and therefore has no insurance - I am considering putting it back on the road and the easiest thing I can think to do is get it MOT'd and then decide if it is worth doing the work. So that leads to the question above...
  25. 1. Yes 2. Yes - if you look straight on at the headlight you will see 2 screws. one at the top and one at the side, best thing to do is park on a flat surface about 10ft from a wall and put lights on, the beam should be roughly level from both lights so you can adjust the offside to bring it into line. 3/4/5. Really depends on how bad the play is (Does the MOT tester really know Land Rovers?- I had all sorts of problems with a tester who insisted on my changing all sorts of steering parts, he eventually accepted that the play was built in from new and it was just a "Land Rover thing") - you say you have changed the steering box, how long ago? As for TRE's I change them almost every year for MOT. 6+7 - Cant really tell without pics - does it really need new outriggers or would a patch be enough? 8 - Change the shocks and yes do both sides - probably worth doing fronts too, they are not that expensive.
