  1. Hi guys I was trawling the net a few week back and found a company that did galvanized bulkheads but with your old one traded in they knocked off £250 off the price …...I can not find the site again no matter how hard I look any one any ideas on what company this could be ??? (for series 2A 1967) But they do all Bulkheads Thanks Paul Its not Ashtree
  2. Are thats one good bit of news there I WILL get this sorted one way or another and thanks to every ones FANTASTIC help/advice
  3. Yes been to JSF this morning and tried a HD drive member in a boost wheel and no way not even close ... So narrowing it down now to Bowler wheels change the axle inners Or I've been offered a set of 300 tdi Defender axles .....(quoted £150 to shot blast and spray them) Now would 300 tdi DEFENDER axles be a straight swap over ??? any thing else that needs changing from my current landy or to be done ??
  4. Snagger .......just reading back through all this as I consider my options ...and you say "Another option is to have a set of four HD flanges, or just their outer hexagonal covers, chrome plated to match the alloy wheel nuts and make them a feature of the wheel. You could fit a black neoprene membrane to seal up the gap between the circular hole of the wheel and the hexagonal edge of the end cap. hat was my backup plan." So I take it if I fit four HD flanges the wheels will/should fit the hubs properly but the hexagonal HD flange nut will poke through the centre hole stopping the caps.......?????? If so think thats the way I will go and would be happy with that as you say have the hex nuts powder coated or chrome plated and would look ok and save LOADS messing about with her and certainly lot cheaper than Bowler wheels
  5. M&M 4x4 are great real quick and sort any problems ......same as above Famous four, John Cradock, .......Paddocks are ok for some things as will offer a alternative..... to britpart on a lot of stuff........Maybe have a word with your local dealership I did and get such a big discount it sometimes works out cheaper by the time you buy mail order and postage on top.
  6. Are that explains it ...... So people are happy with the steel doors then ??? As I will have to change the other four AGAIN in the next five years at some point...... I will have to look in to the price of the steel ones compared to the Ash Tree Land Rover ones .......And then try and decided what ones I THINK will last longer all steel OR steel galvo frames with alli skin
  7. I was stitched up by LR then as mine are alli ........brought from main dealer 8 year ago
  8. OH OH OH Land rover doors DON'T GET ME STARTED ON DAM LANDY DOORS ......Having brought all new Genuine doors from Land rover 8 years ago (so post 2005), all new dam evey thing in fact lights, seals, bumper, bonnet you name it complete re spray etc etc I've all ready alli corrosion back ( I cavity waxed the door inside the DAY it came out the paint shop drain holes all ways keept clear)....ITS HEART BRAKING after so so much work on the landy .....I did replace one door 5-6 year ago with a Ash tree land rover one Galvo frame then they marine bond the skin on ......Thats still immaculate ...so I will eventually replace the other 4 and yet again a re spray but £2200 for the doors and £1200 for the spray .......we can put man on the moon but dam land rover seam incapable of making doors that don't dam well rot...
  9. You made my Mrs laugh anyway Doug I told her no way am I fitting spacers now and showed her the pic to which I was told short sharp thrift "There is probably nothing wrong with them what do you expect with a name like DANGEROUS DOUG"
  10. LOl areeeeeeeeee don't say that lol ......I was going for the classic Mayfair cigarette box colours silver and blue (not that I smoke) ......Not changing it now lol
  11. Oh well that's that one out then lol ......Just made me think when he said so.....
  12. Now this or this may not be interesting ......But yesterday was telling a Scaffolding friend about this and poor Dangerous Doug s Landy mishap and about the wheel spacers and how Ive gone right off them.... In scaffolding you DO NOT use dis similar metals .....as in if you use steel on alli the nuts will always slip loose ......exactly as the wheel spacers metal nuts on a alli spacer
  13. Loads options and brilliant advise guys .....I really have gone well off the spacers idea and yes 90% of the time sure there ok BUT thundering down the road at 90 mph oppsss I mean 70 mph of course I would NOW all ways have in the back of my mind is my wheel going to come off .....even if it wasn't Great minds think alike Snagger I was considering the HD flange thing if I went bowler wheels and getting them powder coated to match the wheels .....Ideally I don't want to loose my current axle cases as had them shot blasted and all me V frame back of hubs etc sprayed semi gloss Ral black .....Cross member, steering rods, Radius and trailing arms, brake callipers were all painted blue to match the Terrafirma shocks tops.......so really last thing I want to be doing is changing whole axles after what I've done Id rather bite the bullet and buy some bowler wheels......BUT if can change the internals to me personally a much better option.....
  14. Are I knew I should have brought a 300tdi .............ARRRRRRR..........I think its SERIOUS BEER o clock time before I slip in to even deeper Land Rover depression lol ......
  15. Hay thanks Ralph ...... Now Ralph as you know from your fantastic help and saving me many many a time from MAJOR land rover depression and smashing it to BITS..... I can pull the thing apart and put it back together but I've no great knowledge …..Its a case of learn as I go (which owning a LR I've done quite a bit off lol) So this may sound daft question to you but bear in mind the above lol...Now I'm not fussed about disc brakes I just want to get the wheels on safely and a proper fit so....... So is that a whole axle change then OR can I just change the haft shaft drive member ?? From RUC105200 (which is listed as 24 spline and fits a 1990 TD) To a FTC859R which is listed as Defender 300tdi Hub drive Flange ????????? No I've a horrid felling your going to tell me yes there both 24 spline but different diameter shafts as it couldn't poss be that simple as its a LAND ROVER Been cheering me self up from land rover dull drums by stripping down and re spraying all me tow hitch all afternoon LOL
  16. Right don't her from me for ages then loads in one week ok this dam wheel problem I have Right Tornado's because load ratting.....DEFF not keen on wheel spacers now after seeing what happened to Dangerous Doug s POOR land rover (imagine that at 80-90 mph) see posting on wheel spacers for a pic 110 1990 Drum brakes behind OK what is involved work wise and parts on making my front and back axles take a post 1994 wheel with caps.....as in converting the hubs so the wheel fits, discs behind etc etc ......I'm praying I don't need to change the axles them self s just some of the hub gubbins ....fingers crossed and from that any problems people may have encountered ???? Thanks guys ......(I will get this sorted one way or another
  17. Well that's TOTALLY put me off them that looks dam FRIGHTNING .arrrrrrrrrrrr ....between a rock and a hard place with wheels at the mo I presume there all coming off now Doug ???? Can not believe with how many older landys are about there's not a nice alli wheel out there ....all the thousands of land rover mod things you can buy and NO ONE does a nice wheel for older landys The ONLY wheel I've seen that will fit mine without spacers I've found so far..... wait for it ...is the BOWLER £££££££££££££££££ £1750 for five 18" or about £1000 for 16" OCHHHH and only grey, black or white so another £300 to get them powder coated silver two grand for some wheels So any other wheel suggestions that would fit no spacers on my pre 94 gratefully received
  18. 1990,110, out the factory as a TD......drum brakes behind Ok after my post on wheels and new tyres and finding out Tornado's really should not be fitted to my 110 But boost should (weight ratting) The next morning I managed to get a set of five genuine land rover Boost wheels .....spanky new wrapped up still in the Land Rover boxes at a real bargain price ...ok FANTASTIC great start... Having the drum behind and the disk in front to fit these I need wheel spacers ok after some reading the best seam to be bulldog or Terrafirma 301 hub centric things (30 mm spacers) . (not brought them yet as they do the Terrafirma 301 at the tyre place)) Ok the tyres I want and are BF Goodrich 235/85/16 AT KO2 Has any one a older Landy like me with drum brakes etc and used Terrafirma spacers with boost wheels and BFG tyres of the above size ???? If so all fit ok ?? and does the tyre stay inside the wheel arch ??? (standard arches) Any problems with spacers ???? bearing in mind I'm 90% road use and any off road I do is just tracks in Wales or Scotland when I go climbing ....and most years do 1000-2000 miles in her... Thanks there
  19. Looks like I need some wheel spacers then DAM any one know of a make that is 20mm as all I can find is 30mm and want to keep it less as poss ??? Ok been looking and I know nothing about spacers seams to be THREE types with and without locating ring and locating ring with cut outs ?? any recommendations
  20. I just remember I had a Boost wheel in the shed got it out tried it on the front .....goes on the front but no way a cop on Just found this on a listing for 4 new genuine Land rover Boosts ....so would SEAM they will fit ok but no caps again " They will fit all Land Rover Defenders (if you are fitting to pre 1993 Vehicle you will need to remove the centre cap or fit wheel spacers. " May just stick with and get my Tornados refurbished there been fine for 15 year no probs,....(as I do prefer the look of the Tornado) I also found a posting on free styles and Tornado's being the same wheel different name earlier I can confirm 100% Free styles and Tornados ARE different......Having brought a spare wheel for mine when I first got it and buying a free style wheel......they look the same UNTIL you put them next to each other and find the rim bit where the numbers are stamped is different . Some one could make a BOMB if they made centre caps that came out a little to fit
  21. So Boosts would fit my 1990 with centre caps as well ???
  22. Looking for new wheels at the mo and came across this I've a 1990 110 fitted with Tornado's for 15 years now ....I used to Cary loads of the roof rack and tow 1-2 ton regular (before I found out I needed at B+E Licence OPPSSS) and never a problem with the wheels.... I can also confirm 100% Free styles and Tornados ARE different......Having brought a spare wheel for mine when I first got it and buying a free style wheel......they look the same UNTIL you put them next to each other and find the rim bit where the numbers are stamped is different .
  23. Hi guys Its new tyres time so wheels need refurbishing or new ones ok... 110 1990 ....Drums behind , discs up front At the moment I'm fitted with Tornado's without caps Is there any other alli wheels that will fit with or with out caps ?? I seam to remember years ago some one making a Boost copy that would fit but cant remember there name.
  24. SOLVED I was sent a 130 tail pipe for a 300tdi LOL (NO label to check part number)....... new CORRECT one on the way next day delivery At least its just a wrong part and not a Britpart bad fitment prob lol
  25. Don't see me for ages then 3 times in one week anyway...... 1990 110 was TD fitted with defender 200tdi now/since I had her 15 odd LONG years Changing my TD exhaust for a 200tdi one to go with the engine Got some nice galvanized 200tdi hangers Straight through mid pipe (Terrafirma) Front down pipe and tail pipe from Paddocks and has GT Exhausts written on them Now the front end clamps are the same size holes line up between the Terrafirma mid pipe and the front GT down pipe The back clamps DO NOT..... The back end clamp on the Terrafirma straight pipe is the same as the Terrafirma and GT front clamps as in size and hole positions But the clamp on the tail pipe (Gt prt) as way smaller clamp and the holes are way way off meaning using really skinny bolts and not sure that will be able to pull it together properly or Ive the wrong back/tail pipe any one else had this ??? Spacings on first three clamp holes from centre to centre is 100mm The back/tail pipe clamp hole spacing is 85mm
