  1. My Wabco one bit the dust, and I read all sorts of horror stories of replacement Wabco ones being made in a cheese factory. So I did a stoopid thing, I bought a Bluebox one........guess what........................................no, your wrong, its fine, still going strong after prob 6 years. Chuffed as a chuffed thing, I is.
  2. the way I see it (110) is the down pipe is pretty heavy grade mild steel, and cheap, and unlikely to rust any time soon, been on there over 8 years and still looks like new, centre section was £45 ish s/s straight thro, thats never going to rust, so that leaves the tail pipe, and about £29 every 2 1/2 years, its not breaking the bank. Bearmach m/s pipes have 3 year warranty btw, might try one of those next.
  3. Wallace has a 300 tdi, with a 'de cat' down pipe and a s/s straight thro center. section. In a moment of madness I pulled the trigger on e-bay , (£9) for 15m Titanium exhaust wrap (lava dust supposedly). The exhaust is noisy out the back, but that is to be expected, its the internal noise that gets me. The harsh metallic ringing and pinging and surging and droning noise when the peal is planted. When you tap the exhaust with a spanner it rings. Anyway, did a bit of gooogling re 'wrap quietening the exhaust', and it was a bit hit and miss. Today it arrived, 3/4hr later its on, and what do I think. Well,on initial start up and tickover its quieter, inside and out, and on a run its muffled, like hitting the exhaust with a spanner wrapped in a rag. I went for a blat up the A2, 70-75 for 10 mins, came back opened the bonnet, and was amazed how quiet and cool it was in there, the manifold was HOT, as I only wrapped the down pipe/center pipe, but I put my hand on the downpipe, 3" from the manifold joint, and it was warm! job worth doing imho, and did it with 1 roll., another thing the exhaust note out back has changed at tickover, once more I can hear the turbo whistle, which I had lost, this I put down to the extra heat inside the pipe , burning off the sooty carbon, in a self cleaning regen mode? possibly?
  4. Ok , swapped it, and I didn't need to slice it open, just peering down inside the filter, the tiny hole in the end of the BLUEBOX was was self evident compared to the gaping hole of the Mahle one. Thanks all.
  5. yeah, thanks Mutley, I know I'll spill a bit, just wasn't sure if the sump would empty down my arm via capillary action or some such. Noticed a prolonged oil light on start up as soon as I put the blue box one on, and every time since, only done about 20 miles, all slow stuff anyway. Thanks All.
  6. Following on from the S@@tpart oil filter thread, I fitted one a couple of days ago, then read the thread. I now have some Mahle ones on the shelf. Can I swap the filter without dropping all the oil from the sump, pretty sure I can, but don't want it to bleed everywhere if I can't. Thanks
  7. another question, I'm rather p'd off with the drone from the straight through center pipe, and when driving through built up areas, its a bit embarrasing, so I want to put the centre box back in then flog the s/s center bit. What is a good make of center exhaust, Bosal/bearmach and what are the ones to avoid. OR are they all the same, Not going genuine btw. ££££££££££££££££ Thanks all.
  8. Another question, were stainless centre boxes ever fitted as std to 110s , I'm sure I know the answer, but question arose via an e bay item , thanks
  9. is a 300 tdi Hi cap rear exhaust the same as a HT/SW ? or is it longer ? (aftermarket one )
  10. Japs have already started to customise them....... If it was bigger I'd have one, but they are tiny At first I liked the defender looking one, with the wheel arches, but now I prefer THIS>>>>>>>>>>
  11. thanks for this, I assume that 300 tdi filters are equally carp, ha, just changed Wallace's oil and put a bluebox filter on this morning. Then read this!! T'was my last filter on the shelf, so just ordered 4 Mahle ones, and will swap it out asap. I will cut it open and have a look, prob next week. I'll do the same to the Mahle one I took off as well.
  12. I followed his tips with the dum dum, and seems to be working.
  13. Paint the inside, with any paint, even gloss paint, will stay forever. You could of course carefully cut your headlining, or use a hole cutter, say 4/5 3" dia holes to give you some light in the back.
  14. Have you changed the fuel filter, sometimes pumps get noisy when filter needs changing. Mine did. (300tdi) also I had similar noise , another 2 times. First was brake servo pump on way out, second time bolt was missing from air filter box diagonal support bracket ( taken off to change servo pump 2 years earlier) but 300 may be different. I'd change filter and clean out lift pump if it has a screw in the top , first.
  15. Maybe discs are worn, and pistons are coming out a long way. Try cutting the anti squeal shim . Of the 2 pistons on each side, cut the squeal pad so it only covers the upper( trailing edge) piston . That way when you apply the brakes, the trailing edge hits the disc just before the leading edge, sort of heel then toe, and it stops the squeel ( high frequency vibration). . Do this on both sides of each calliper. On the rear, cut the pad so it only covers the upper half of the piston. Stops rear brake squeal this way.
  16. That was £150 with NO business use tho, thought you wanted BU?
  17. Flux, SD&P + business. £400 ish. With modifications, ( wheels, suspension, side windows added, roof rack, straight thro centre pipe, RAI,
  18. soon Wallace will be needing new front brakes. Being a late 300 tdi 110 HT , it has vented disks up front. and the calipers look exceedingly crusty (180k).. What is a good compromise make these days, disks and calipers? thanks.

any chance of a photo of the 'damage' to the seat belt, that would cause it to fail. Mine has lots of 'squash' marks, so wondering what 'damage' looks like.
  20. back to the OP, what about a 2.0 xt Subaru lump, 175bhp. or 2.5 xt 227 bhp, small engine, saw a you tube vid of one in a 90, but can't find it now.
  21. Have a look on Wikipedia at the MG T series sportsters.
  22. Santana PS10 cheap, roomy, familiar, good engine, won't depreciate, coz it wont cost a lot. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201706206599228
