  1. Ive got a 3 USB modem, that I have tested with the PC hidden, and yes oops I know its GHZ but it was a tad late when I posted and didnt notice that when I re-read it. From what I understand there is legislation already about watching dvd's and video whilst driving, as long as it does not distract the drivers attention, i think this is why most of these dvd come stereo's have a lead to the hand brake so that when the hand brake is off the video function will not work. However am I right in thinking that almost all new cars come with some sort of screen in them I know BMW do, and the Freelander 2 does also I believe... so with alol these cars having this feature as standard how is new legislation going to cover it?
  2. Hello all, Still in my first posting days here. Well everything good with my Freebie so far, had a new cylinder head, valves, belts, clutch, waterpump etc etc so I decided to begin bringing her upto date. Im quite a young lad at 25 and am very much into technology, so have decided to work on an incar pc project, not sure if any of you have embarked on anything like this, anyway what I intend to do is have a small form factor pc installed into the passenger side glove box, a 7" touchscreen embedded into the dash and ODB and some other cool stuff going on. Why bother? Well I love music and do I lot of long distance, I also find that radio stations I like in one place have no reception in another so internet radio is a must for me, also because it will have full internet connectivity and I happen to be in a hotel or away from home I can jump in the car and watch the football streamed. I'm going to install a Dell Optiplex GX620 Ultra Small Form Factor (USFF) with 2GB of Ram and a P4 3.00gb processor, this will connect to an inverter through an inline fuse to the car battery. There will be a 7" Touchkit that when the car is turned on at the ignition will load into Centrafuse. Should look very cool when finished, I want to know if there is anybody else out there that has done something silimar, not fussed if its a Petrol or Diesel Freelander, just interested to see how anyone else has done it. Steve
  3. Hi all, I'm Steven... a new forum user so a big HEY to you all!!! I have a 1999 Landrover 1.8 XEI 3 door, I had wanted one for quite a long time and bit the bullet a week ago today I'm aware of all the Head Gasket and Blown Engine troubles that surround the K series engine. I must admit I'm not the richest Freelander owner in town , I have a few niggling issues I'm hoping you nice people can help me out with. I apologise upfront if I babble a bit, can't be helped. Ok so far I had the Passenger side door unlocking mechanism go, but I sourced a new part and seems ok so far. I accidently snapped off one of the hinges on the hard top roof but luckily it still locks down, wont have the roof off for a while. The cabin sounds slightly and I mean slightly echoey?!?! I think this could be because the roof is maybe a bit loose? any ideas? I have a slight squeak every now and again when starting up the 4x4, this happens maybe once out of every 8 starts and lasts about 2 seconds, sounds like a belt perhaps, also been told by someone that this is normal and not to worry..? Ok and to my main concern, I'm a bit of a freak for keeping the engine and everything in order, it has a revised head gasket and I'm doing what I can to make sure it looked after. However the following problem/fault/issue occurs randomly and I havent got a clue what it is, about 3 days into having the car I had just gone down a slight decent on a road I mean slight, got to the bottom and put my foot on the clutch and brake (no accelerator) my rev counter went upto 2,000 revs, I was like WTF?!?! how rude! so thought maybe it was me and left it, but behold same decent same thing. So I called the guy I bought it off, he told me something like when the brake pedal is pressed down the air is pushed out, and inorder for the inlet manifold to get the air back in it uses the engine to draw power and will idle about 2,000 revs, however if when you stop the car and take it out of gear and put the hand brake on it will idle at between 8/900 revs and wont be noticed. OK!! I thought, so i left it for a few days, and then today arrived !!, went to work and back all was good, untill I got to my girlfriends parents house, the revving started again, so I ignored it, and it happened again... odd I thought, but then it happened again when i stopped at some traffic lights, this time upto 4000 revvs, I thought to myself well atleast its while Im stationary, after nipping home I decided to get a pizza so whilst parking the car in 1st gear the car was holding the revvs by itself, its stopped now for the time being, but im not sure whats causing it, could the accelerator be sticking? any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated thanks Steven
