  1. Well i would'nt know. What is more important is the aparent lack of oil feed/return for the turbo and difference in pistons. I was taught years ago that when an engine was fitted with a turbo the compression is normally reduced. Not always the case but unless you know for sure asume they are the wrong pistons. As stated before fit a 200TDI now, it will save you doing it in future. Also a TDI will increase resale value.
  2. Hi All I have just aquired a used Warn M8000. My questions are. Are service/overhall parts available at reasonable cost? If yes any ideas who to use? When inspecting this winch is there anything i need to look out for? Can anyone explain why the motor has three terminals? Thanks in advance Bill
  3. Thanks very much for that. It answers one of my main questions.
  4. O.K so I still want to change the mounts but I am now going to run some injector cleaner thruogh it first, as i would like to see the difference. My feeling is that Disco mounts are going provide the most isolation, but I may well go for Defender mounts I don't really whant to cut and weld my Chassis. I would be very interested to see either in the flesh. Bill
  5. Well i think that statment from Turners says it all. Read between the lines and it says the engine is unreliable. Thing is the 200 TDI is now quite easy to find and i know it's alot more work to fit, but once it's in and sorted it will run for ever and start first time every time with minimal maintinance. Just my opinion but I really belive it,s worth the effort/money to fit a TDI. Also I reckon the TDI will iprove resale value. Bill
  6. Hi Graham they tend to breath quite heavy so i'd look at the state of the air filter ect. No idea on MPG. I havn't driven one for along time but as i recall they go quite well compared to a NAD. In my own personal opinion i would go for a 200 TDI as it's better in every way. Bill
  7. Yeah a good point. Trouble is i like to off road it, and already have 235/85's and rr diffs so i can'i afford to go any faster in low box at idle. Do you think slowing the idle speed will help? maybe it's worth a try.
  8. Hi Mate If the tyres are new try swapping them side to side.
  9. Just one more thing worth a mention. The wider offset rims on a series save body damage when off road, as they keep the edges of the body away from the sides of mud holes ect. Bill
  10. Hi Mate The mounts are new and the engine has been rebuilt and is set up spot on. Take your point on the injectors though. I reckon yours is smoother because you have used 19j rubbers which i think are larger than the series items. Bill
  11. Hi Steve There is a chap on here who has improved the situation by useing Disco mounts. I supose my question is do Defender mounts have the same effect. Bill
  12. Hi Graham I tried petrol mounts first, and then fitted brand new Diesel mounts including the gaerbox. The engine is steady it's just the vibration through the dash ect that i would rather not live with. How is this on your truck? Bill
  13. Well it's funny you say that, my goal is to make it smoother than a lexus. Do you think this will be difficult? The point is the TDI conversion is great but vibration at idle is very harsh. This i think is due to the engine being direct injection. The problem can be solved with Disco mounts i am just wondering if there is an easyier way. Bill
  14. Hi all I have a 200 TDI Engine in my Series 3.I used series diesel mounts when i fitted it, but they do not provide adequate isolation. I am aware that Welding in Disco mounts will cure the problem, but before i do so just wondered what others have used? can Defender Mounts be used? All ideas welcome Cheers Bill
  15. Hello again Now sorted thanks.
  16. Thanks Guys I haven't looked at it again yet but he has already put a new lift pump on it.Please keep the ideas coming. Cheers Bill
  17. Hi all Yesterday i had a look at a Disco TD5 for a family member. The engine cut out on him and now won't start. When it did run it was holding back. The fuel pump in the tank does no run either with ignition or when cranking. The fuel pump relay in the fuse box under the bonnet is pulling in.I have checked all the relavent fuses and all are ok.I have also tried to read the fault codes, but for some reason the vehicle will not comunicate at all( i am using a bosh KTS machine). I will spend some more time on it later, but if anyone has any ideas they are most welcome. Many Thanks Bill
  18. Hi Snagger The engine mount is by far the most likley cause of your trouble. I think you need to get it sorted befor you do anything else.I have a 200tdi in my 88 with a series 3 gearbox, and have had no such problems. However i have found that series rubber mounts are not really up to the job as the vibrations at idle are very harsh. I will at some stage change them for somthing more suitable. Bill
  19. Thanks very much for that.Bit to far away for me as i am in Suffolk, but thanks for your help.
  20. Hi all I need to fit servo brakes to my Series 3, my question is can i use a pedal box Master Cylinder and Servo from a 90/110.Or must i find one from a late Series 3? Cheers Bill
  21. Yes indeed a lovely rare series 3, seems a real shame to take out the Harvey Frost. But thats only my opinion and it's yours to do with as you please.
  22. Well it's funny you should say that.See that's how it all started.I was running a mk3 golf TDI for work, and it was reliable and very economical.I then bought a rough series 3 for off roading.Welded it up for the M.O.T. and used it for a while. Then i unexpectedly fell in love with it.Before i new it i had carried out a full rebuild on it, installed a 200 tdi and so on. Problem then was felt guilty driving it hard off road. Solution was my current project, an 88inch v8 hybrid which will be for off road use only.Trouble is i will need something to tow it with. The car just won't pull it and the series won't stop very quick towing a heavy trailer. This is why i would like to find a way to run a Disco every day rather than having more cars than John Presscot.
  23. O.K. thanks fellas.Think i will give it a miss then.Gonna look mat running a tdi on cooking oil instead. Cheers Bill
  24. Wow Diesel is a lot cheaper in Your area, £1.27 a litre here! LPG however is about the same as yours. The percentage saving on LPG seems to depend on who you ask.I have been told anything from 50% to 25%.Still looking for info/evidence on that one.Got a quote on an LPG kit yesterday £505 inc VAT. Would fit it myself and then get it inspected and certified by the supplier.I am assured that as long as the install is certified and the insurance are informed the premium is not much higher. I do about 25k a year which is why i need high MPG. Overall i am going off the idea, but i will do some more research before i decide.
