  1. Hi all , all back together, drained the remaining oil out and found some droplets coolant in it. I’d imagine they came from what was left in the head when I removed it , I did remove all from the pistons but some obviously got to the sump. So do I run a litre or so of oil through to get rid of any that might be in there or just fill her up and go for it? Trying not to get any more problems 😁, cheers Ian.
  2. So stripped her down today , well stepson did some this morning before I came back from work and yes the head gasket was on wrong way , when the head was off I could see why the oil came out like it did . When your a numpty and put it on the wrong way round the HD doesn't actually cover the oil gallery outlet so it can quite easily spurt out in the gap between the head and the block , lesson learned . But to be fair the " TOP " etching was a lot more prominent on the new gasket than the old one , so onwards and upwards . There was oil residue around the rocker shaft and nothing was bent so hopefully I stopped the engine in time , we'll find out when I next start her , fingers crossed . cheers all Ian
  3. Another one for genuine , bit to critical to trust a blue box jobby .
  4. Oooooohhhhhhhh very expensive 🤔🤔🤔, no charge just cover the postage if you want them.
  5. @Peaklander paint was from Halfords I believe, very runny so you need to apply thinly.
  6. @vulcan bomber found them quite easily, which is a surprise. sorry pics not very good, just got home and didn’t check them before I came out of the shed.
  7. I’ll have a look, it’s about somewhere might take a day or two as I tend to put stuff in a safe place these days, but it’s normally that safe I can’t find it when I need it 😁.
  8. I might have a fuse holder and a bracket in the shed somewhere off the 300tdi if you want them ?
  9. Yes I thought it was coolant when it started hitting the floor and as it was over the pit which is just over6ft deep it made a good slap when it hit the floor 🫣.
  10. Thank you both , yes one of my better ideas the red block. The front two are still in and there’s no oil at the rear of the block . It actually looks like the oil came from the front corner of the block from between the head and the block . You wouldn’t think that much oil could come from there would you?
  11. Thank you all for the help it’s much appreciated, so been out tonight for a quick look and take a few more photos. First up checked H D , it is on the wrong way , checked in case I’d swapped it for some reason , then checked oil . Before start up it was nearly et full and we put a drop more in , dipstick shows none but opened sump plug and there is some oil in . Haven’t stripped anything off yet just looked . So pics , first removed oil filler cap wasn’t loads of oil but it wasn’t dry in there , front cover at bottom was dry, the oil appears to have landed mostly on the axle , then of various places around the oil filter, So I’ll strip it down the weekend and post up what I find, have ordered new H D , head bolts and top gasket set . Cheers Ian
  12. Cheers all, forgot all about those little plugs , it was I did put a small amount of oil in through the filler cap before trying to start it, went for a cuppa then came back .
  13. Cheers @hurbie looks like I’ve been a numpty 🤭 . I’m guessing it’s best not to reuse the head gasket?
  14. I found this from my build thread , which I think shows the H D on the correct way 🤞.
  15. @Peaklander just asked on my rebuild thread about cam shaft seal but no oil came from the drain hole at the base of the timing case . The more I think about it the more I think it’s from the oil filter housing, as the majority of the oil fell that side of the engine , the highest point it hit was that corner it was dry from that point back but some had sot over run across the top of the timing case and run down the other side .
  16. It was running for about a minute then we heard it running on the floor of the pit, was expecting coolant.
  17. Does that cause it to spew oil out Steve ? And lots of it.
  18. Definitely oil , it threw about 2 litres out was all over the axles and floor in the pit .
  19. Hi all , it’s been a while, so finally getting round to finishing my project 300 tdi auto 90 , got everything done today with the help of the stepson so went for the first start . Electrics were all working fine but nothing on start , found that problem got the starter relay earth wired to gearbox so only starts when in park and was a bad earth. Once that was sorted tried starting bled fuel system , built up oil pressure and she coughed into life , reved her a bit and she settled down at tick over nicely then spat the oil out , turned her off before we could see where it was coming from, seems to be here somewhere, any ideas where it could be coming from? There was quite a lot, I’m at a loss but thinking oil filter housing? All help much appreciated cheers Ian.
  20. Hi all , not updated for a while , wasn’t happy with some of my trimming so I sent it to a bloke I’ve used before in Stafford and I got it back yesterday. It hasn’t taken him this long to do, I’ve been faffing about with wiring and other stuff, so hopefully will have it all back together soon. Cheers Ian.
  21. And me apparently 😂😂😂😂 never gave a thought that the other box wasn’t working correctly.
  22. Glad I asked , thank you just saved me a lot of work for nothing . cheers Ian
  23. So @steve b I'm guessing from that reply that I don't have a problem and the box is good ? I was going off another box I have , on that one with diff lock dis-engaged as soon as you turn one of the output flanges the other turns and so do the internal gears . cheers Ian
  24. I stand corrected , hold one and the internal gears turn when other one turned by hand . cheers Ian
