In my experience containers are usually able to be delivered (and put where you want by the Hiab) as part of the sale at minimal if any extra cost - is there a reason that isn’t an option for you?

I attended the Grenadier test drive event at Glen Tanar estate yesterday, so thought I’d add a bit to this thread on how I found it off road. Sorry I didn’t get many photos!
First though another point on the steering. I drove two vehicles yesterday, one on the off road course and one on a road circuit - the latter had horrendous steering that felt pretty unsafe at higher speeds on uneven roads. The other car felt fine so I am pretty sure there was an issue with the second vehicle, but the guy with me wasn’t having any of it and said it was normal. It felt like an old 110 with the swivel pre-loads set far too loose. The lack of self-centring was also still evident on both cars but as I’ve said above already you would adapt to that pretty quickly.
The main interest for me however was the off road test. To my surprise the course was actually quite technical, it was rutted tracks through woodland but there were a number of tight turns, loose ascents/decents and side slopes that along with the wet conditions owing to recent weather made it a pretty good test in my opinion. Certainly much more testing than the likes of the sanitised LR Experience courses.
Unsurprisingly the car had no issues, for the huge heavy lump that it is it was actually fairly easy to manoeuvre it around the course. I did miss the cameras on the 110 but the visibility at the front is slightly better on the grenadier. The traction control worked well, it’s a bit more rudimentary than LR’s system and slower to react but it never struggled to get me up the hills.
One thing I was surprised at was the lack of ground clearance. The vehicles were all catching on bits of the course where a standard old 90/110 (or a new one in off road height) would not.
Overall it feels just like a bigger, heavier, more solid 110 and performs off road in a similar way. The main difference being the significant extra weight and I could really feel the effects of that on the side slopes and ascents/descents.

That looks okay - hopefully it all lines up.
It will be worthwhile getting plenty of seam sealer into the open joints, and then once painted loads of wax into the cavities.

There’s not usually a gasket fitted between an LT77 and a transfer box. Each of the boxes has an oil seal on the shaft.

I’ve no doubt the LR has the same sump, but it’s well protected by various guards.

A shame.
I’ve got an off road test drive booked for next weekend so I’ll try and have a look under one. I can’t imagine the course they’ll have will be anything challenging though.

Seems odd that there would be no guarding at all from the factory?

When I changed the discs and pads on mine a year or two back it was a pretty easy process, certainly much simpler than on the old 90 due to the front mounted discs as above.

In theory floating calipers might be easier/ lighter, cheaper, but I agree they're usually more prone to sticking. Typically easy enough to free and clean up though.
They are floating on mine. Must be a different setup on the larger brakes.

They’re not floating discs, they just have a finned section on the bell. The calipers are all floating though as is standard practice these days.

Your engine mounts do perhaps look slightly further rearward than on this photo. Perhaps someone with a factory 300Tdi can take a few photos or measurements for you.

For 200Tdi and earlier 4-cyl models the engine/boxes sit in that rearward position, using the bolt-on mounts you have in the first post.
For the 300Tdi they moved the mountings forward a few inches, into the V8 position. This means the gearbox tunnel is a different shape at the rear to clear the front output housing of the transfer box. Combined with a longer bellhousing on the R380 it means the engine ended up much further forward in the engine bay.
A picture of your engine mounts would be useful. With the gearboxes mounted on the 300Tdi crossmember then your engine should drop on to standard 300Tdi mounts.

If it’s a 110 you could change to a later Td5 tank. It’s a fair bit of work though.

Let's say I was to build a workshop and have provision for a ramp (likely a 4-post). What would be a sensible clearance height requirement to allow for its use?
Obviously I can just add the height of the vehicle to the ramp’s maximum lift as a simple measure but is there anything else to consider?

I’ve gone with 32F and 34R for c. 260k miles and 4 sets of tyres, works great and never had an issue with wear. If you’re towing or have a lot of weight in the back you can increase the rears slightly.

I bought my 90 with 140k on the clock - put another 150k on it before the gearbox developed a noise. Swapped another one in and have done another 120k since then. All on bog standard mineral ATF Dexron 3.
The 110 looks a great project
