  1. Hey guys, just thought this thread needed a follow-up. Long story short, I was making a mountain out of a mole hill. I had emailed Ashcroft's around the same time I posted this thread and their advice was to let things break-in. The clunking was/is a result of the initial preload of the ATB, and after another 200 miles it's reduced significantly. So, I guess in true land rover fashion, if there's a problem, give it some time and it'll resolve itself. Thanks again for the help!
  2. No 85w-140 then! Liquimoly has a 75w-90 "GL4+" (20012) available on Amazon. Would that be ok?
  3. The FAQ section on Ashcroft's website says an EP 80/90 should be used. I'm already using the version without the LSD modifiers. I don't mind changing the oil, but I don't see anything in the 80w-90 range that is different? Mobil, Lucas, and Royal Purple all have friction modifiers. I can't imagine Castrol EP 80/90 is any different than Valvoline. The other option is I could switch to 85w-140. I'm in Texas so it's only going to get hotter over the summer. Thanks!
  4. Hello all from the US! I just finished rebuilding the axles on my 93 RRC with Ashcroft ATBs. The front also got new Ashcroft HD axles and CV joints, and everything is new from the swivel balls out. I took my time and made sure everything had the proper preloads, backlashes, etc. My issue however is the front differential occasionally makes a clunking/clicking noise. I've narrowed it down to when the oil is fully warmed up, and after making a turn. If I lightly ride the brake pedal the noise disappears. To park on my driveway I make a wide u-turn off the street. Pulling into the driveway with the wheels straight is when the noise is most obvious. it's too loud/deep to be the air suspension valves or rattling brake pads. When I'm leaving the house in the morning, not a peep. With the front on jackstands and the transfer case in neutral, both wheels spin in the same direction, and I can't replicate the noise (I tried when everything was "cold") I'm running Valvoline 80w-90 gear oil. The version that doesn't have LSD additives. Not that I think it makes a difference, but I filled the swivels with the same gear oil, not one-shot grease. Honestly, it sounds like it's popping in and out of locking. I've read that torsen style diffs can make these noises, but I don't hear anything from the back. I need you guys to talk me out of taking the whole thing apart to double check my work...
