  1. choice. never really seen one before mine to be honest. even the old boy I kick round a bit with that was RNZAF in the 60s hadn't seen one that wasn't on a 101!
  2. no ENV up front form what I can see. apparently aussie spec 2600s had env rear. who knows! cheers. will smack some grease at them
  3. Gidday, Just going through my wagon - factory 2600cc 109, has an ENV diff. I've had an issue which stems from the axle breather being blocked in the past - weeping hub seals. Have dismantled hubs and found that the wheel bearings don't seem to have any grease in them. Am I meant to pack these with grease or just let it run in sloshed oil from the diff? only thing that stops this oil getting to the wheel bearings is the spline/axle itself. Doesn't seem to be a felt seal against the circlip like front diffs have under the axle nuts.
  4. FWIW: NZ and Australia called the ford badged ones 'Courier' up until the commonrail versions came out. Mazda were a 'bounty' or 'b2200/2500' until the same time, then moved onto the BT50 name. May help you find more info for this side of the equator.
  5. 07 went to a commonrail engine. my sister nad her husband have one of that model. goes well. look out fo rleaking egr coolers masquerading as a blown head gasket. often people over here replace cylidner heads and all sorts of stuff but never think to check the egr coolers for internal leaks! little less agricultural than the prior models. go a lot better, though, althuogh lots higher geared. theirs did a clutch before 100k. dual mass flywheel etc. I got them a single mass replacement. my father has a 2002 doublecab 4x4. good ute. has about 340'000km on it. hasn't had many issues. over here in nz they tend to have gearbox and diff beaing issues. the best way to make them last the longest is to obviously run the correct trans fluid in them, but also don't tow/labour in too higher gear. dad doesn't really care too much about that advice though and runs a slightly thicker oil (he asbulk tanks with 80w-90 vs the recommened 75-80 or whatever it is) and tows heavy stuff quite frequently. he puts around 700km on his a week over a daily commute which sees him drive over a very steep and windy road. lots of load carrying (he's a heavy diesel mechanic) brother has a 2004 doublecab. he bought his at 180km. done about 220k now. he's a mobile heavy diesel mechanic. has a flatdeck on the back with two big gullwing boxes full of gear. large compressor etc. running weight is just over 3000kg at all times. goes really well. often tows our salvage trailer with extra gear etc amounting to about 2500kg total. no problem. I'm pretty sure he's mucked with the fuel pump and boost etc as even at 3tonne it'll still keep up with my dad's one no sweat!

  7. maybe a silly question but can you whip the bellhousing off the front and replace this and the larger input shaft bearing without removing the trans from the vehicle? obviously the engine would have to be out (I have a slightly grumbly front bearing in my vehicle and engine is being replaced so figured popping a couple of bearings in now might be easy enough)
  8. nice! I really missed it over the summer. The only problem i ever really had with the tyres was that they're just too stiff in the sidewall in my opinion! I guess when you look at the load ratings of the things it makes sense. Even running them fairly flat I felt they left a lot to be desired, especially with paddock work, but it was usually nothing a dose of loud pedal wouldn't sort out! I found it super economical as well! a 20litre jerry of fuel always seemed to last a lifetime in the thing. Has really changed my mind on the 202 conversions. They seem to suit a landrover much more than a commodore/hq or similar. I had a really tidy low miles HQ Kingswood when I was about 16-17 and it was the most lacklustre vehicle (also fairly hungry) I think i've ever owned.
  9. Gidday Mate, Happened across this thread in my Friday night internet ramblings and HAD to join up and post! Glad to see you're chipping away at the old girl! I've certainly missed her since selling to you. We were actually up in the pohangina valley recently, and I remembered where you said you lived so I couldn't resist doing a drive by. I didn't do a lot of work on this old girl (bare minimum to be honest!) but I really got the LR bug from it! Sold up my Mitsi Pajero, and am in the throes of selling me ol' Toyota Crown at the moment and have begun searching for my dream landy already. Was super gutted i wasn't in a position to purchase your Stage One when you sold it a wee while back! Went for far too cheap in my opinion! Do you still see it around at all? On the topic of the alternator - it never used to like charging until you gave the engine a good rev. bit odd but I never persued it any further. When I bought the thing, it had a couple of inlet manifolds and carbs on the back, nothing fitted to the engine, and a blown out muffler. I assembled the intake side with what I had and just enjoyed the thing. Was always wanting the spare time to give her a proper tidy up but in reality she just lived down the back under a half tarp a lot of the time - the beauty of having 5/6 cars, you have to spread time so thinly! Hope to cross paths in the future. I think I've still got your number handy. Should pop up and see the old girl and yarn about landrovers some time. Cheers Cam.

Bush tracks en route to Raumai Bombing range for a (very very rare occassion!) blast around the bombing range for a morning. super lucky to be allowed out there! at the observation/control tower more river times Tangimoana Beach - Foxton and back Waiting for you to come buy her!!
