  2. i have a 110/300tdi and am wanting to start running svo. i know that i have to pre-heat the oil to avoid causing damage, so am looking a twin tank system to keep my options open. are there any thoughts on: [*]which system or heater to purchase [*]to channel heat into the cab first thing in the morning and warm the engine up at the same time before i set off [*]a system that i don't have to plug into the mains but would run of the battery [*]one that is fitted with a timer i know there are few requirements but all thoughts welcome ta
  3. Thats the one; pricy aren't they. Many thanks for the reply.
  4. The front passenger seatbelt spool fell apart today when I turned on the engine. I went to buy a new one and was informed that they had discontinued the one that I wanted (defender 110 SW 1995; attached in the corner of the door frame). The new one attaches to the bracket which the spool is fitted to and looks like it attached to the floor. My question is how do i fit the new part so that it is safe and passes its MOT? Hope this all makes sense.

    Canada

M'mum's family live in Norway and spent a lot of time there as a child and moved out there to live when i left school. Had Norway as first choice, then New Zealand and Canada. We were going to move out there as one of my uncles offered us 10 acres of forest land to clear, build a house and then work it, but politically the country is changing and they need to start investing a lot of their oil money in their infrastructure. New Zealand i love but seemed a bit of a cul-d-sac (nothing bad intended). My wife has cousins in Canada, they are wanting hard workers and the country is huge and lots of forests and mountains which i love. So there we go. Oh they speak English also.

  9. I have finally decided to make the biggest decision of my life and move my family out to Canada. However i need to know that i will be able to take my Landy (110 defender 300tdi) out with me or at least buy one out there. However there are a few questions that i need to ask first. Firstly i have read that if the vehicle is over 15 years old it is ok, secondly vehicles in general have to comply with canadian and american safety standards, does this apply to the 15 year old vehicles? Are there many Landrover clubs out there? Are there any more laws that i should be aware of? What is the availibility of parts like? The list goes on. I would be very much appreciate any answers and comments from people who know or any anyone with any experience of driving in Canada. Ta
  10. Ta for the replies. The first pads that i put on were Lockhead and had bevelled edges but they still squeeked, so i swapped them. also put copper slip on them. Help!!
  11. I have recently changed all the brake discs and pads on my defender and it has left me with a very loud squeek from the rear wheels. I took the pads out and roughed them up a little along with the discs (as the pads seemed to have become a little shiney), but it still continued. I then changed the rear pads thinking this might cure it but too no avail. Please any suggestions I am sick of everyone within a hundred yards turning around to stare
  12. A strange noise appeared a couple of days ago and has been intermittant since then. Have finally pinned it down to my fuel tank. A sort of chug chug noise and there is a lot of vibration travelling through the fuel line from the tank. p.s. changed the fuel tank in July and no problems until now, however thought I was loosing a bit of power .. maybe. Ta (300 tdi)
  13. Just taken the rear doors off my 110 to replace the hinges and the nuts fell down behind the door panel. My question is how do I take the window handle off in order to remove the panel, followed the haynes manual but there was no access to the winder bolt? p.s. ended up using a magnet to pick up the bolts.
  14. Thanks a lot for the feedback on and all. Didn't manage to take off the wheel today school holidays took over, will be be checking as soon as. p.s. it is always a single tap
  15. Checked the prop shafts and replaced one joint but still there. Sounds like a small hammer tapping on the stone guard behind the wheel hub, but all seems solid. Also seems to happen when i'm slowly edging out and tap the brake a bit heavy. Am going to take the wheel off tomorrow.
  16. An annoying knock around the front offside appears from time to time. When I say knock it sounds like a hammer tapping against a plate! It only seems to appear when I am a bit heavy on the brakes. Does anyone know what it could be?
  17. Many thanks Lindley for the feedback
  18. Just looked on the Cooper web site at the Discoverer STT's and the strength of them has appealed to me. As I said always had AT's so not had the experience of MT's, how were they for the first 10,000 with regard to road braking and wear?
  19. Many thanks for the feedback
  20. It is time to buy a new set of tyres. I currently have a set of BF Goodrich AT (on a defender 110 300 tdi) and they have have lasted well and have never let me down. My question is should I stick with these or try some Colway or Insa Turbo. My current use is split between 50% on road and 50% working on the moors. Many thanks.
