if its standard its wrong, never had a car that hasnt been remapped or upgraded in some way.

  1. Dont suppose anybody is folowing anymore but like to finish a thread, Went online and found an ecu through a breaker, Installed and programmed through nancom, Found an open source webiste for td5 maps (cant remember the name) About 5 maps availible and of course I went for the most powerful. And holy carp, it flies, like **** of a shovel. Runs really sweet and chucks out smoke if you put your foot down, does say the boost needs to be upped, however im hitting my boost cut at the moment so need a boost box, My old ecu was knackered, the new one runs smoother and weirdly picks up more faults codes, A noisy crank signal and coolant temp sensor, Will fix those and itll run even better, With the old map it boosted to 1.01 bar, now it hits 1.14 and stutters a bit so I think thats the boost cut, id like about 1.3 bar maybe 1.5bar to clear up the smoke.
  2. So heres a weird one for you all, just hooked up my new nn ecu, and as expected it drives rubbish, loads of lag and in low box its even worse, like limp mode. but the strange thing is it brings up more faults. there is a noisy crank sensor and a coolant temp sensor. these never came up on the old ecu, and it was running fine.
  3. Hi, we are remapping our td5 defenders, want a bit more poke, quite like the idea of a stage 2, supposed to be more aggreasive fuelling and a mild increase in boost required. so far we have purchased nnn ecu's and fitted larger performance intercoolers, like the allisport ones. we have done EGR delets and have no CAT's we have nanocom so can install the map files and code injectors. however we need the files now, we have the ealier EU2 or 10p engines, so we need a map that is more suitable for the ealier engine but also has been remapped. found an ebay seller that has them for £40 but would be nice to get some quotes and even talk to someone about whats best. if anyone has done this before or is a distributor, we would love to hear from you. cheers, oliver
  4. Pedal fitted, all fixed, its still not amazing but I think that may be down to the larger intercooler now, but all shoukd be sorted when I remap it, stage should do nicely.
  5. Quick update, ordered a throttle pedal, cant complain at £6 delivered, its an early 2 track, will be fitted soon, However it looks like an ecu upgrade is in store, will be loading a stage 2 map on it when its up and running, And in other news my clutch switch has packed up entirely, reading doesn't change at all. If anyone knows where to get one, ebay is £22 delivered which seems a little steep.
  6. Expanding on the hydraulic idea, or pneumatic, you allready have a very reliable compressor on your truck; your vaccume pump, if you were to use pnuematic cylinders, can be bought cheaply second hand or new old stock, and connect them to 2 way pnematic switches but use vaccume to drive the ram not pressue. Vaccume is much more reliable, hoses wont pop of from over pressure, if your difflock dosent engange right away or the rams travel is impeded, the forces are less and your not relying on a comressor to provide air pressue. All you need to be safe is a filter on the inlet side of the switch so you drag in carp or water into your vaccume circuit. If your in any doubt, maxxi drive diff locks, like arb or ashcroft, use vaccume to drive there diff lock actuators, it negates the need for a comressor and they have a reputation for being one of the strongest most reliable diff lockers there is.
  7. Since where talking about the pedal, I had assumed that being a 2000 car it would have a 2 way pedal, however the car had a bulkhead change in 2006, and I thought maybe they never swapped the pedal over, So in nanocom I changed the ecu to read a 3 track pedal and not a 2 track pedal, (apparently this cant be done but mine did) and to my suprise, no change. Ill swap in back in nanocom and see if it helps, but still suspecting that 3rd track is affecting the ecu somehow.
  8. Cheer, theres no issue with the turbo, actuator moves freely, boost correctly and no faults codes of any conciquence, but it seems to only way to fix it is to do the pedal reset/fuel purge sequence, and its a massive improvement so I know somethings not right,Have a pedal cheap so will get it and see if thqt fixes it, I have heard it may be ecu, so im looking for an NNN ecu so I can remap it, hoping to kill two birds with one stone there. If anyone has any ideas or things i can test let me know, loving the landy but anything to improve it is definitely on the agenda.
  9. Hello everyone, I have a 2000 td5 defender, Ever since I bought the truck its not been quite right, Thankfully a friend has a similar td5 so I have a good comparison, 1st thing I did was the obvious mechanical bits, Poor throttle responce -> blank off egr assumed stuck open, Slight stuttering mid revs -> changed mass airflow sensor. Down on power -> fitted uprated alloy intercooler. Symptoms, poor throttle response, feels like boost lag, a good 2-3 seconds before full boost. Revs are holding between gear changes, weird but I got used to it. Seems down on power, have to really rev it to make it move and it feels rough at higher rpms. Checked everything with nanocom, switches and sensors all seem fine. Was getting no where untill the otherday I heard it might be the throttle position sensor, checked the readings on nanocom and theres a glitch at about full throttle on track 3, I have heard that it can be reset in the ecu by pressing the throttle pedal five times turn of the restart, and hooray this solves it, for 30 seconds. Plenty of power and instant throttle. Now is my problem the throttle sensor, or is it fuel related, as also doing the pedal reset primes the fuel pump and does a purge cycle. So is it fuel pump related and the throttle pedal fault is just a coincidence and not whats causing the power issues. Any help would be much appreciated.
  10. Thanks tacr2man, that was absolutly fantastic, exactly what I was looking for, I was going in circle with everyones threads and differing opinions on what parts to use, really cant thank you enough. one last question, the p38 input shaft is that specific to a p38 gearbox, I know the v8 box has differend shaft, reason I ask is we have an r380 defender diesel box and an r380 v8 defender box laying around and would have loved to use one of those, also I assume the bmw accelerateor pedal didn't fit is that why you used one from a Mini, please excuse my ignorance with my questions, just wanting to have as much info as I can before I start. many thanks for your help, just hope I can find a way around the dual mass flywheel, urgh be expensive if that needs replacing. On a final note, that 530d convertion was by anychance tuned by endtuning, was talking to him the otherday and said he remapped one of these conversions, couldn't comment on how it was done tho.
  11. Hello, thanks pete, yes I have seen that post, however he has gone through several engines and alterations since concieving it, and dosent clearly explain what is required for the conversion, no way im making my own gearbox bellhousing. Ther also must be some other people out there who have done the swap, would love to hear from them on what they used and difficulties they faced. I know this will be moderatly difficult swap so trying get as much information before I buy anything, really what im looking for is a parts list, gearbox, clutch, bellhousing, engine mounts, intercooler, radiator, the bits I need and from which car to get them from, if all goes well I will start a propper thread with a step by step conversion detailed with pictures, any advice is welcome as I have only weekends to spare and being built at a friends house will mean a limited timescale, months not years.
  12. Hello, I have a 110 defender 200tdi van, currently being rebuilt after it fell over, as we all know the 200tdi is a sound engine but too slow for me, I am well versed in bmw engines, have had a 525tds and currently a 535d, As far as I know ( quite a bit of resaerch on old posts and cross referancing parts) I will buy a 530d complete car, pre 2004 so e39 shape, preferably manual, I believe I need a p38 gearbox with the 2.5tds bmw engine, I know that bolts up, bell housing is bolted to an r380, might need a defender r380 to be able to change gear, Of course r380 bolts up to most transfer boxes, Heres the tricky bit, clutch flywheel, and input shaft, believe it must be a p38 flywheel, clutch plates some arrangement of bmw or LR, input shaft is unknown, will it be similar to a v8 length (short) or 300tdi (long)? Mounting of engine will of course be custom, aswell as wiring dont expect any issue there. Any comments welcome, if youve done it before let me know how, I dont want to hear what are you putting that piece of rubbish in for, stick with tdi, after a tune 3.0 m57 will do 240bhp, about right for a defender.
