Hmm ,£600 + for the Tornado systems ecu to fit gems or Thor , not being a tight Yorkshireman but it’s a lot to spend on a toy , not saying it isn’t value foe money either but it doesn’t stack up against my intended use , might b carbs after all. Will have to talk to the hot Stox boys . Thanks everyone fir your input

Thank you everyone for your input , I’m feeling quite confident that retaining the efi will be perfectly acceptable. Does anybody know if the engine ecu for the 4.6 is stand alone ? I’m guessing there is the immobiliser to sort / remove but is there anything else ?

All good stuff guys , thank you , tbh it’s a friend who is trying to talk me out of running the efi as he thinks it will be fragile but I hadn’t ruled it out , there is a 2.3 duratec in the formula that runs the standard efi and as @missingsidsays the hits aren’t (usually) massive , no follow ins etc.
@garrycol , thermostat not a problem as it won’t b running one.

Fuel consumption not an issue , power , torque and driveability is ! Do you think the ecu would be up to the job in a contact race formula ?

Any of you guys know if a 4.0 or 4.6 can be converted to carburettors and if so what parts can be used from previous models of V8 ? The engine is to be used in a Super Banger so I’m looking to simplify the running of it ie no ecu to rattle when taking a hit ! The rules do allow for fuel injection to be run but the electronics scare me ie cutting out after a hit or do you think it would be fine ? I’m guessing that comp safari guys still use the ecu ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Close to me but hadn’t heard about it , there is a lot of “off lane” activity that goes on round here , a lot of the vehicles come into the area to use the local lanes but unfortunately the majority of them are very irresponsible and do nothing other than make a mess and upset people , it’s because of these types that all lane users are tarred with the same brush.
The lane behind my house is shown on maps and whilst it used to be passable in a 4x4 there’s no chance now , bikes and (just about) quads can manage it but a full blown challenge motor would struggle yet at least half a dozen times a year a group of nitwits in jacked up big tyres motors will try it , if I see them I always tell them they won’t make it but I’m usually told to mind my own ! Once they’ve all gone and turned round half way down it’s a proper mess 😩. I have no problem with people laning but totally understand why the general public don’t like it .-

i try not to think about my rr classic footprint (good one that 🤣) as it hurts too much . For me the soft dash LSE is the ultimate incarnation of the rr classic but unfortunately they are pretty much unobtanium now , I nearly , nearly bought one around about 10 years ago , an eBay bid on a vehicle that I hadn’t seen in the flesh and I wasn’t quite willing to go that extra bit on which in hindsight I obviously should have , good old hindsight 🤪

don’t kick yourself too much about scrapping range rovers , I’ve scrapped 4 including a 2 door AND a soft dash factory 300tdi ! makes me sick when ever I think back to it 🤢What was I thinking 😬

Hang on @Simon_CSK, did you say the one you are going to fit the body to is a write off ? Cat D, cat C, Cat A etc etc ? Can it actually be put back on the road ?
