  1. Well I must have bought the only unreliable, badly made Freeloader Landrover ever produced ,oh yeah and all the ones I have worked on ,replacing transmissions, rear diff mounts ,head gaskets ,clutches ,rear window motors ,rear window seals etc etc .Nowt wrong with a difference of opinion ,my opinion is they are carp ,and yes that is from (a lot) of experience.
  2. Don't do it ,they are rubbish ,simple as that .Your money would be better spent on finding the best 200/300 TDI Disco you can ,brilliant off-road ,relatively cheap to run and loads of space inside ,try not to get a sunroof model ,they leak ,and check for rot in the sills ,inner wings ,rear cross member etc ,I'm making em sound bad but take your time looking ,there are loads of em ,and you will find a good un, just don't ,whatever you do ,buy a Freeloader .
  3. Half of the conversions I've seen use the dead clutch pedal ! Not that I'm recommending this method
  4. I'm just waiting on one of our Australian members to see my post ,they will know the true meaning of Cahn !(it's not a spelling mistake )
  5. That is quite simply horrible ,like really really horrible ,having said that I saw a Kahn 90 yesterday with the glued on square wings ,20" rims and sprayed Matt green and that too was rather horrible .I have since decided to rebadge my own landrovers as "The Anti Cahn ".
  6. Why not get the best D2 you can afford as an introduction to the world of 4x4's ,really good motor as long as the chassis isn't rotten ! If your talking ML and L322 money then you can certainly afford one . Good way to get used to the running costs of a big motor and if you like the world you are in you can move on to bigger ? and better ?. James
  7. When I fit the arches I will have to use my secret weapon ,my mate installs fume cupboards for a living and is fastidious when it comes to details ,he won't let me bodge em !
  8. Thank you Hangover ,I have seen the flatdog ones and thought they looked good ,nice neat install you did there ,just what I want to achieve . My previous experiences of cutting out arches have included hand flaring the arches on a 5 door classic (didn't look as bad as it sounds ) and using Jeep Cherokee(forgive me ) arches on a 5 door 200 TDI Disco ,both times to clear 33 inch tyres ,this time I am fitting 235/85/16 bfg at's (cos I have em ) ,probably with wheel spacers ,and I want to keep the motor neat and tidy like it is now ,plus the wife says I HAVE TO KEEP THE MOTOR NEAT AND TIDY LIKE IT IS NOW in case she has to use it ,in her words "you're not turning it into one of those sheds you usually drive "!. Thanks for the info ,James .
  9. How old is the Haynes manual ? I find that the older manuals seem to carry more info ,James
  10. Hi ,looking at fitting extended wheel arches to cover bigger tyres on a 5 door 300 auto ,it is about to receive a +2 lift ,C/C arms ,1.4 t/box etc ,obviously i will need to cut out the arches but this time im looking at making a really nice job of it rather than the ,how can i put it ?,more off road orientated style i have done in the past !Anyone have experience of them and could recommend a good manufacturer to me please ,wanting the flexi plastic ones not fibresmash !,thanks in advance ,James
  11. EBay feedback can be doctored though ,it's not a complete guide to a sellers legitimacy. If someone is willing to put the time and effort into being a professional crook then they can usually work their way round the system .
  12. Makes me slightly ashamed to be a farmer !
  13. Did you have an agreed valuation with your insurer ?.Very important when it comes to making a claim . A friend had his 110 written off by an errant vw golf ,it had galv chassis ,auto box ,300 tdi, newer body ,new tyres etc but was on a B reg ,they offered him a pittance but he dug his heals in and got the correct value in the end ,I have had the same experience with a claim on a burnt out tractor ,when i told the insurance assesor what i valued it at he said no way ,I told him to find me a direct replacement or pay me exactly what I was asking ,I got the full amount . James
  14. Nothing wrong with Thornton Breakers ,local to me and have used them before .
  15. As an add on I think the ones that mill services make look good .
  16. Where are you based ? I make em ,fully custom to your spec ,but I need your motor to build em on to .James
  17. The one good thing about the current Defender fashion is once they go out of fashion there will be a lot of very high spec motors around going cheap ,can't wait .
  18. As si says ,cost of tooling etc ,It all adds up. There are some that are all name ,some that are well made ,some that are pants and some are brilliant ,shop around ,you will find what you want. I make my own but it's not really any cheaper . James
  19. That's what I wanted to say but you put it better ,
  20. I've said it before ,R tech are the guys to go to . James
