  1. So, finally(!) I had my Defender 90 (2014 TD4 2.2) repaired, after 8 months of sitting in the garage. Just needed a new battery and it started easily and sounds normal. According to the mechanic it's in "excellent condition" (probably because I never drive it!). But as my wife and I slowly/carefully emerge from our self-imposed lock-down due to Covid-19 we are considering taking some drives again. Which makes me curious about a few things: how frequently should I drive the Defender to keep the battery in good condition? The mechanic said the battery needs "regular discharge and recharge cycles" but didn't specify how frequently that might be. He also mentioned we could get a battery switch, but I'm not crazy about that idea. My next question is more general, and comes from a fear instilled in my from an old friend – that vehicles have to be driven regularly.. otherwise... (not sure what actually -- that the engine is going to seize up!?). Any truth in this advice? My assumption is a new-ish vehicle parked in a garage can stay there for long periods without issue. But maybe I'm deluded.
  2. Alright. Glad to hear that's all it is. Thanks for the quick reply.
  3. Hi, My Defender has been parked in a garage for over 4 months. I tried to start it – it won't start. The power locks work, interior lights come on and the battery indicator seems normal when I turn the key (everything lights up on the dashboard at one point). First off, when I turn the key to just before starting I hear a whirring sound at the back of the Defender which sounds a bit tired and then finally stops. Then when I try to start the engine it makes rapid clicking sounds and lights flashing in the dashboard. I'm not sure if the engine actually attempted to turn over but I don't think so. Is this just a low battery? or something else. Any other advice would be appreciated. David
  4. Vehicle started without a problem and there were no brake problems/sounds. Thanks.
  5. Thank you all for your replies and advise. I'll take it out today. Hope it starts.
  6. Hi all, I haven't driven my 2014 Defender in about 2 months. Is there anything I should do before starting it up and driving it? I plan on checking the oil and underneath for leaks, and then letting it warm up a bit, but I was wondering if there's anything else I should do? I guess as a side question, is there anything wrong with letting it sit for a few months? Thanks, David
  7. Thanks for the replies! I will hopefully be visiting the authorized mechanic soon, so hopefully he can reset the warning. On the topic of oil... the last time I had it changed I checked the dipstick and the oil seemed relatively clean, but this time it seems dirty by comparison. Is this because I waited too long to have it changed (I was overdue)? Would you recommend getting the oil changed again just to clear out the sediment?
  8. Hello, I have a 2014 Defender 90 Hard Top E. I live in a part of Spain that is a long distance from an authorized service garage, so I had a local mechanic do the yearly oil change. I have every reason to believe that they really did perform the oil change (i.e. they showed me the box of oil containers they ordered specifically for me and then after showed me the empties on the floor which I asked to see) however, whenever I start the Defender the "OIL SERVICE" warning appears on the console momentarily. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this and/or what needs to be done to rectify it? I'm also concerned because I read somewhere in the manual that the warranty is void if the oil service is not performed on schedule. Any assistance would be appreciated. -David
  9. I received the replacement mirror today and I have to say it's practically identical to the old one, even though the manufacturers are different. So, for posterity: Britax III E2 00463 can be replaced with MTC-5084 aka (on back): III E11 015674. The mirror is the same for left and right sides. As long as the arm & ball are intact, the mirror fits right on. You do require a "star" screw driver of a specific size (don't know what) in order to install it. Purchased from here: https://www.britishparts.co.uk/products/7734-mirror-head-MTC5084
  10. Hello Gringo, Did you find that MTC 5084 was a suitable replacement for your Britax mirror? I'm looking to replace my Britax "III E2 00463" on my 2014 Defender and would like to know if it's the right part. I'm looking to buy from this source https://www.britishparts.co.uk/products/7734-mirror-head-MTC5084 Thanks! - David
