Groups will depart all during the morning so there will be no rush for those that will inevitably prefer a sleep in. Routes from novice up to some of the most challenging in the country. Saturday evening we return to the camp site for a Mega BBQ, the GIANT JENGA championship and some beer. Guests are always welcome and I think make the week-end extra special so please post the details to any other forums you visit.
  2. I'll be there with Hull4x4, we used to go to Driffield and had a good time. Harrogate should be better show, its bigger site and there are a lot more club and commercial stands. I'm a little sceptical of how good the off-road course will be. It was at the Army Training ground at Leconfield for the Driffield show and while mild for experience off roaders it was good for getting the interest of beginners.

  4. How long should an electric Winch motor last? That is a question that has been on my mind during the last week. I bought my branded winch in spring 2007. It was used a few times that year, once or twice a day about once a month at the most. The winch failed at my club's Summer Bank Holiday weekend in 2008 at just over a year old. I replaced the motor with an up-rated version. That worked fine for about 14 months and has failed. Other members of my Club have had similar premature motor failures even with top branded winches. How long should an electric Winch motor last? Is my expectations that they should last much longer than a year unreasonable? Should I expect winch motors to be a consumable replaceable item like wheel bearing and filters ? Martin Spamer Hull 4x4 Club
  5. Just bending standard trailing arms won't help, it's a actually a really bad idea, for two reason; a) it will shorten them which will try to pull the axle forward, which will also pull down the suspension A-Frame, stressing the A-Frame bush, bending the rear springs and damper forward; b) the bush holder at the axle end needs to be offset from the shaft to prevent fouling the mounting bracket. You're fitting cranked arms because of a suspension lift therefore they actually need to be longer (consider the hypotenuse of a triangle, it increases if you increases the height of the triangle). You need to match the length of trailing arms to your lift, the once size fits all approach of some trailing arms manufacturers is also wrong headed because of this.
