  1. Has any one come across a kit, or fitted a system that will hold open a Discovery 2 tailgate on a side slope or in heavy wind? Cheers Mark.
  2. Has it got ACE? I'm going to guess yes - If so Check the drop links.
  3. A stock Td5 110 should be able to pull over 80MPH even on Mud Terrain tyres - they do rev a fair amount though. On road tyres it would pass 90MPH when new. With a power upgrade they pull the 1.22 transfer box really well. It should crack 50MPH in 3rd as standard, so 60MPH in 5th should not be a problem! Mark.
  4. Hi Nige, Thanks for the response/offer, PM sent. Regards Mark.
  5. So my Ibex has been off the road for a few years, undergoing a slow change. It now has a 3948cc (cross-bolted) Rover V8 on an R380. The megasquirt kit is on and does run, but very, very, rich. My friend and I don't have any indepth knowledge of the megasquirt. I therefore need to find a company or individaul who is able to sort the vehicle's running out for me. The vehicle has no MOT or tax (currently SORN), which is not something I can remidy until the engine runs properly; however I can trailer to anywhere within approx 200 miles from Reading. I am looking for recommendations for someone who knows megasquirt and wants the work? Any suggestions? Regards Mark.
  6. All interesting points - However if people didn't buy them new, how would everyone on here have their 2nd hand ones?!!! Even for a ground up restoration, somebody bought it new!!
  7. You need to bleed the system as mentioned - the correct process is:- 1. Ignition on. 2. Press and release the throttle repeatedly until you get an orange warning light flash up (more like 10-15 times). 3. Leave for purge to complete (circa 5 mins - light goes off) - you will hear the pump going through various priming cycles. 4. Ignition off. 5. Ignition on. 6. Crank with throttle floored - release throttle as soon as engine fires. Regards Mark.
  8. Students filling in the forms - got 2 out of 3 right, that's a good result - send it back again and it will come back right.
  9. I not sure if this is still active. The simple answer is to phone a dealer. If you are too late, Ashcrofts do a mod, I think. Mark.
  10. Update London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) – Clarification of affected Land Rover models Please note updated text below. The London Low Emission Zone (LEZ) was first introduced in 2008. Vehicles which are subject to the LEZ must either meet certain emission standards, or pay a £100 daily charge to drive in Greater London. Initially, the LEZ applied only to HGVs and coaches, but this is due to change on 3 January 2012, when existing standards for HGVs and coaches will become stricter. Larger vans, minibuses and other specialist diesel vehicles will be given LEZ standards to meet for the first time. On this basis, some Land Rover models are affected: Pre-02MY Defenders are subject to LEZ, except 98MY to 02MY Defenders homologated as an 'estate' (90 Station Wagon / 110 Station Wagon 9 seat) this will be indicated on the vehicle registration document (V5C). Memo: The DVLA is aware that some 90 Station Wagon / 110 Station Wagon 9 seat have been described as ‘light 4x4 utility’ on the V5C. For owners of 90 Station Wagon / 110 Station Wagon 9 seat whose vehicles are described as 'light 4x4 utility' and have a date of manufacture after 1998, the DVLA will amend the certificate to show ‘estate’. Customers are asked to forward the V5C to the DVLA, signed, dated and marked with the appropriate change to ‘estate’. They will then amend the vehicle record and issue a new V5C." • Owners of 90 Station Wagon/110 Station Wagon 9 seat pre-98MYs can register their vehicle with Transport for London (TfL) with suitable photographic proofs if they intend to use their vehicle in the LEZ. • Other Land Rover Commercial Vehicles (e.g. Freelander 1 - pre 01MY, Discovery and Discovery 2 - pre 02MY) are also subject to LEZ. This is also applies to conversions e.g. Motor-home, Ambulances (including Range Rover derived conversions). • Vehicles constructed before 1973 are classed as historic, and are therefore exempt from the LEZ. For further information please visit www.tfl.gov.uk/roadusers/lez
  11. I'd guess at the handbrake dragging (very fractionally). Mark.
  12. Glad the sods didn't get it. From the title I thought they'd turned up in a quick getaway car!
  13. Are you sure it is a misfire - rather than the speed limiter? For UK markets (unsure of others) there is a speed limiter (currently set for actual speed of 82MPH - although often reads as 86MPH on speedo). The smoothness of operation seems to vary from vehicle to vehicle - some are very smooth in operation - however some do exhibit a misfire like snap reduction in throttle. So if is is around 130 - 135 KPH it may well be this. Mark.
  14. Correct it is an internal buletin to clarify the confusion about the new regs. I thought it may clear up the topic a bit. Mark.

  16. Check the condition of the leads also, while your checking all the other electrical side of things. Mark
  17. Fair point - but are any external/lock ring type beadlock rims road legal? Mark.
  18. I was wondering if anyone has seen these up close and has any opinions of the quality of them? Wheels & Lock ring Cheers Mark
  19. I could well be wrong - but I thought they only worked on petrols. It's been a while, but 1's I used would go much greener than that.
  20. Cheers guys - it would be on an age related plate (55 plate), bar the private plate. Need to look at the V5 I think tonight to see what is stipulated. Mark
  21. I know various SVA type threads are kicking around, I think this is slightly different. I'm after a steer on the following:- The Ibex which was SVA'd in September 2005 is currently a diesel auto - and hence is tested as so at emissions on MOT. I am in the process of switching to a V8 petrol manual. I am hoping this will not cause me a major headache now! When I submit for MOT will I need a CAT (from what I am aware on SVA'd cars it says to refer to the V5 for emissions)? Will it need re-SVAing (or equivilant)? Tin of worms open. Cheers Mark.
  22. Dodgy brake pedal switch - would be my 1st guess. If an auto are you using both feet? Mark.
  23. Your generally are always going to break the 75-85% rule when towing a Land Rover with a Land Rover (or similar) when you have factored in the trailer weight?! Mark
  24. To start with nothing has fundementally changed in the last few years with regards to the overall rates - apart from showroom tax (only applicable on brand new cars amd build into RRP - and the reclassification of all 2011 Model year vehicles. Defenders registered upto 22nd March 2006 - no major variations in road tax rate (all £195ish - £245ish). Defenders registered on/after 23rd March 2006:- 1st you need to know what body type your Defender is - in simple terms (if pre 2011 model year) if it was a factory hard top, pick-up , utility station wagon or double cab pick-up it would be a commercial in terms of road tax, if it was a station wagon it would attract the higher tax rate. This would mean Station wagon around £445 per year to tax others £210 to tax. All variation of 2011MY onwards are £210 to tax as all reclassified as N1 commercial. The £950 only applied to 1st year tax on new station wagons (pre 2011MY - not subsequent annual re-taxing - so no-one will ever have to pay this on any Defender they buy now - absolute max is £445). So SMO - the truck cab you have seen will be £210 per annum if registered on/after 23rd March 2006 about £195 if registered before. Regards Mark.
  25. Pushing and holding the lock button for about 3-4 seconds will raise windows and unlock for dropping window. The keys can lose sync - but generally this will mean no working at all. Go for a long drive with that key to make sure it is fully charged. The keys do sometimes go wrong - so may want replacing - cost of key approx £85 from memory + approx £30 to get sync'd - you can swap the emergency key blade from the existing key. Mark
