  1. 200tdi disco alternator won't fit defender as it's the wrong hand. The 300tdi aircon model disco alternator will fit def 200. No idea about the belts I'm afraid
  2. Hi send Pete Attryde on here a PM, he has the gps coordinates I think
  3. I use a HP mininote netbook + in car charger + GPS mouse running memory map, I use a cheap navman satnav for roads. The massive advantage of the laptop route is that fact that on long journeys on road my wife can watch films on the computer, which then saves me from excessive whingeing
  4. I am starting to think front is the way to go, fitting a rear to a salisbury seems to be getting on for the price of fittng portals!
  5. poor quality gasket and/or fitted incorrectly would be top choices Mike
  6. Swapping the Salisbury for a p38 axle would give me a cheaper locker in the back but still a chocolate front diff? Upgrading the front (obviously all of it shafts etc) would give me a stronger front axle and I'd still have a nice strong diff in the back no? Just trying to align the cost/faffing/usage/pointlesness balance! Mike PS a 110 and no Salisbury
  7. Ralph that makes sense, how undriveable does it make it? I would prefer rear but theres a huge price/faff difference front and rear! I would probably only be using it when stuck on my own without a tow around... Mike
  8. Hi have been pondering getting an axle difflock, my question is this, if you just fit one locker does it matter if it's fitted front or back? Most seem to fit it to the back? My issue is that I have a 110 with a Salisbury rear axle therefore getting one installed is going to be expensive, obviously I can get a recon rover diff with an arb fitted in and fit it myself no worries. There is also the fact that the Salisbury is stronger and I would only fit one locker. I don't do rufty tufty extreme to the max off roading but mainly p&p and hopefully some overland in the future depending on work. So should I just fit an arb to the front or bite the bullet and get one installed in the rear? Mike
  9. I have ordered off them several times, and apart from 1 instance when they sent chocolate bearings by mistake they have been very good, I have found them easy to communicate with and their delivery is very fast. You MUST specify whether you want OEM or not... Mike
  10. Hi you don't need to buy a shock or a bush kit, you just need to buy the bushes that are worn. It sounds like you need a pair of shock bushes, and a pair of ARB bushes, and a pair of springs, If you are doing the overlanding thing then I'd recommend you buy the 110 HD Genuine LR springs for the back, and the 90/110 HD springs for the front. I would also get genuine rubber bushes rather than polys but thats a can of worms I'm not getting into now! Mike
  11. 11. You have to put up with the constant abuse from other 4x4/Car owners, 'Character' soon becomes a pretty weak argument against better axles/boxes/diesels etc That and as above the ease of nicking Still won't sell it because I will not let it defeat me! Mike
  12. Hi welcome to the forum, your location would be a big hint... Mike
  13. I thought it was more of a difference than that, theres a graph floating round somewhere Mike
  14. Never used them myself so can't really comment, I'd second the above though and give petzl a ring... Mike
  15. I would stick with Petzl or Black Diamond. Whats happened to yours? theres not much in them to go wrong? Mike
  16. I have a BOC contract, I use a Y size (i think thats what you're describing) this lasts me ages so the low rental cost and higher fill cost suits me as I rarely need to refill... How much welding do you actually do? Mike
  17. Hi If you do a search you'll find loads of info as this is covered fairly regularly Mike
  18. Thanks chaps Elring it is, I'll measure the piston protrusion when the heads off as I have a DTI, Ta Mike
  19. Hi My 200 has started to sound more like a steam train than a diesel, what brands of head gasket are ok? I don't mind paying for quality but would rather avoid LRs 'think of a number and double it' mark-up policy Are Elring ok? its whats listed on LR series as the alternative to genuine... also I assume that 3 hole is the one to go for if you're not sure, the current one (Cheapo paddocks - I know it was all I had at the time!) is a 3 hole but the one it replaced was missing its tab... Finally if I could bother Ralph for the part numbers? Ta Mike
  20. they are quite common, I have mainly seen them used by community nurses etc when elderly patients can't get to the door to let them in. I would advise against for all the reasons above, just keep an extra extra spare set, in an emergency you can always break into your own vehicle! Mike
  21. I got mine reconditioned by the turbo centre, can recommend excellent service and a great job Mike
  22. That sucks, I'll keep my eyes peeled here and at home Mike
  23. Hi Mine is a xm or xantia fan IIRC, you can pretty much fit the biggest that fits (take tape measure to scrappy) its dead easy to make up mounts due to the steel frame. Mike
