  1. I would also echo the above, run new brake fuel and wiring looms etc down the new chassis first while you have excellent access to it, and start un bolting everything un-necessary off the car now, eg tow pack etc to save time later Mike
  2. my name is Mike and I'm a league of gentlemen fan, the phone number 4444244 crops up frequently but never pronounced the same
  3. Cool I work in Oldham and never knew there were lanes around Mike
  4. surely it's only a matter of time before they rip off the wrong person and end up on crutches?!
  5. probably got an isolator somewhere near the batteries, or the plug is full of carp
  6. Richards stamped mine with my original vin at my request, the dvla man said great I don't have to stamp it for you and risk ruining your galv! mike
  7. no I specifically asked them about MAM and they said as above it is the weight of the combination not the MAM of the combination, the MAM rule applies only if the trailer is MAM less than 750kg in which case it's that + 3500kg MAM to give 4250kg MAM. This was the area of confusion hence why I asked them specifically this question and got the above reply, unfortunately I'm not able to copy my original email but I specifically told them the date I passed my test, my driving licence number, the unladen weight and MAM of a 110 csw, the unladen weight (guessed 350kg) of a sankey and the MAM of 1100kg for the sankey and they replied as above you can tow it but only to a combination of 3500kg I am lucky in that I doubt I will ever need to carry more than a ton of stuff with me but obviously the 3500kg weight restriction would be very limiting to some, ie if you wanted to tow a car somewhere for example It could all be made much simpler!
  8. it's not so much the money it's the time and faffing, I don't use a trailer very often and if I need something big moving I have my dad and older sister insured so they can move it ?
  9. this is what it says for licences issued between 1997 and 2012... Vehicles up to 3,500kg Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) and up to 8 passenger seats with trailer up to 750kg; trailers of 750kg if combined weight of vehicle and trailer isnt over 3,500kg and the fully-loaded trailer doesnt weigh more than the unladen vehicle
  10. Dear Mr Hughes Thank you for your email received on 12/8/13. Your email reference number is 1446748. I can confirm that the advice is in weight not MAM. Providing your vehicle and trailer when you are driving it does not weigh more than 3500kg, you would be entitled to drive this combination using a category B licence. I hope this information helps. 11. Actually hot off the email this morning I have just received written confirmation from the dvla that the rules for trailers over 750kg use WEIGHT of combination not MAM, the dvla confirmed using the figures I quoted above that I can legally tow the sankey behind the 110 as long as if the whole combination was put on a weigh bridge it was less than 3500kg (weirdly not 4250kg!) So good news!
  12. bugger, I'll have to do my +E test thanks guys
  13. Hi I know this has been covered but I find it quite confusing! can I just confirm that I can tow a sankey, roughly 375kg + 750kg payload, behind my 110 csw, mam 2950kg, I should be allowed 3500kg + 750kg right? I passed my test in 2000 hence the confusion? Ta Mike
  14. check your axle breather is clear, if it blocks the axle can pressurise as it heats up and blow oil out through the dust caps
  15. sounds like you need to go much slower as above, might be worth investing in a variable speed drill you can turn right down, also use loads of lube!
  16. very cool, but I suspect by the time I had learned how to set it all out the summer would have ended, not to mention the basil fawlty style sapling thrashing it would get on my fifth attempt to fold it all back in again!
  17. do yrm do them? I'm very happy with the bits I've had off them previously Mike
  18. fit it where you like, most people put it by the back door, it will need a fused live from somewhere positive/battery, via a relay, you then need a fused switch supply to the relay. Or if you are only using a low power bulb and its one with a built in switch then you just need a fused supply from the battery, you can earth back through the body Mike
  19. The Southdown one is stainless and fairly bomb proof, doesn't look exactly like that one but its quite smart and shiny, although I painted mine black! no connection other than a happy customer Mike
  20. 6mm ply or buffalo board will be ample unless you're planning to walk an elephant in high heels over it!
  21. surely you'd know if you put them on eBay? ?
  22. It takes a lot of courage to speak up, wish you all the best for a speedy recovery Mike
