  1. What people may not know is that when the original military light switch was fitted there were various other wrinkles. When in the convoy position it also isolates the supply to things like brake lights and indicators. This prevents inadvertent lighting of said items
  2. I know there HAS to be a reason why the body is sitting about a foot (I'm old) above the chassis but for the life of me I can't work it out
  3. It is 18 years since I did the swap so I admit I may have forgotten a few of the details
  4. I have done a couple of conversions from drum to disc and the axle casings are exactly the same. The addition of discs was a very simple bolt on conversion. Involving a cast aluminium bracket for the caliper and (from memory) 4 longer bolts to retain the stub axle. Speaking of the stub axle and hubs they are different components, but yes it is a simple nuts n bolts conversion
  5. Yes, it is a tiny bullet connector which is part of the wire from the gauge. Blue/green wire from memory
  6. Think I would sooner spend the money on this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ULTRA-RARE-GENUINE-LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-90-2-5D-PATHFINDER-LRPV-12M-MOT/222591782210?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3Da7546b13e53544b99aa7649122954eb7%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D3%26mehot%3Dpp%26sd%3D282572104314&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851
  7. No hang on, if it is on an "A" plate that dates from 1963 Yet it is registered as a 1959 Leyland which pre-dates suffixes by 4 years. As the saying goes "I wouldn't touch it with yours, mate"
  8. If your amp has failed I would consider changing the coil as well. I went through 3 amps in fairly quick succession until I realised it was the coil that was killing them
  9. And it might be about to get a lot worse. https://www.theguardian.com/business/2017/jul/24/vw-calls-crisis-meeting-to-discuss-eu-cartel-inquiry-source-says
  10. Or possibly this company https://www.simtekuk.co.uk/index.php/automotive_connectors/land_rover_-_rover_connectors/?k=:8:55999:
  11. Watching it again more closely, it is quite a bodge. The original seats bolted through the body into brackets on the chassis. This installation is relying purely on the aluminium bodywork to keep the seats in place, apart from one bolt at the front of the rear latch bracket which bolts through one of the floor support members. Interestingly, the seat belt brackets he is talking about using as tie downs, are not seat belt brackets either, at least if they are they are different to mine. The brackets fitted in my truck are a 1 piece item rather than 2 separate items bolted together and err the seat belts are an integral part of them. Presumably the seat belt catches on the puma seats are an integral part of the seats?
  12. And err which bit of it is a series 2? defender chassis, 300 tdi engine, registered as a 1959 Leyland
  13. I have seen a video on you tube of somebody fitting PUMA seats to a pre puma CSW which is basically the same as a double cab (or at least it was in the pre puma days) Found it. Interesting that he is fitting replacement seats when the doors are falling apart with rust holes in them
  14. Not sure but I seem to recall seeing this truck last time I was at Gaydon, mind you that was just before they closed the place for the refurb.
  15. The 110 hardtop i had was fitted nothing in the way of valves in the braking system. Interesting price comparisons here by the way. http://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=anr2503&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10 http://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=anr1415&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10
  16. Don't want to worry you about the sort of life it might have had but......... Oh and the aerial is roof mounted on this particular vehicle. A friend of mine was on the Land Rover development team for WOLF and pulse. He found it quite an enlightening experience, the level of abuse meted out to the vehicles by the military "testers". None of this going down hill in low first with all feet clear of the pedals, more flat out in top to see what broke when it landed in a heap at the bottom
  17. Not all 110s are equal. At one stage I was running a couple of them, the older vehicle (1984) CSW had a PDWA valve and drums, the newer vehicle (1994) hardtop did not and that was fitted with discs. An oddity I noticed on the 1994 vehicle was that it would get through 4 sets of rear brake pads in the time it took to get through 1 set of fronts
  18. Wonder if they are bolted right through the "B" pillar or simply fixed with self tappers?
  19. You can just about make them out between "airmiles" andy and queenie with another just behind the 2nd row door
  20. Not quite on topic, but sort of related. A friend wanted a different steering wheel for his Maclaren. The car has whole vehicle type approval. The cost of a replacement steering wheel? £30,000. Because it had to go through the entire process in order to be approved for fitting to the car
  21. Ashcroft offer shafts for both early and late variants of the salisbury (Dana) axle.
  22. The cap is sealing the T piece and has never leaked a drop in the umm 5 years it has been on there. yes that is the windscreen washer hose wrapped around the heater pipes. Keeps it from freezing in winter and seems to help the screen wash cut through the grease/sap better during summer.. Some of those kits on the bay of flea as well. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=Prestone+Antifreeze+Flush+and+Fill+Kit&_sacat=0
  23. It is from a kit I bought at Walmart during the period I lived in America. If you screw the cap off, you can then screw on a small yellow fitting, the garden hose clips onto that. I would imagine that most of the bits would be available from your local garden centre. Alternatively it may be possible to order it from Walmart. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prestone-Antifreeze-Flush-and-Fill-Kit/16817507
  24. I have a permanently fitted inlet point in the return hose from my heater. Plug your garden hose into it and turn the water on, remove the filler plug at the top of the rad and everything gets back flushed out of the system
  25. I can't see why it wouldn't, after all people have put GMC 6.5l V8 diesels in there, the V8 from a Corvette has been inserted under the bonnet of a 90 by Twisted and JE have dropped a 4.7 litre supercharged jaguar lump into a 110
