  1. Ditto for experiences with Bilstein. Had a full set on mine now for 5 years and the only problem has been with the bushes. Replaced them with genuine Land Rover bushes and had no further problems. Often tow heavily laden GKN trailer (logs) and/or fill the truck with yet more logs. The pleasures of keeping 2 big stoves supplied with logs.
  2. Had a similar occurrence a few years ago after doing a complete brake fluid swap. Turned out to be the float switch in the lid of the reservoir taking its own sweet time to fill up
  3. You might just be in luck, John Richards surplus look like they have one in stock. It is even quite a reasonable price http://www.johnrichardssurplus.co.uk/land-rover/defender-1985/body/land-rover-door-handle-assembly-r-h-muc1032.html
  4. You might be able to source reasonably priced tyres here. https://www.reifenleader.ch/reifen-auto-235-85-16/?s=W
  5. Oh yes they are definitely going up in price. A local seller tried asking £15,000 for an early 2a on ebay recently. Saying that it had been restored. Shame it had the wrong chassis, seats, gearstick, mirrors and front bumper/bumperettes
  6. Yes they will fit the rear of your vehicle, no they are not handed so you simply order a pair of them. Having recently changed from the original NRC6389 & NRC6904 springs on the rear for a pair of RKB101111 I find they (the RKB springs) give a much more compliant ride when lightly laden Yet because of their progressive rate they still give a good ride when the truck is loaded to the eyeballs and towing a laden trailer
  7. The way to find out would be to go to www.howmanyleft.co.uk
  8. There is a website which details how many of each vehicle is still on the road. There is a date before which there are no records but I cannot remember the name of it. I used it once to find out that there are 136 V8 One_Ten station wagons still on the road
  9. Sadly no pictures and the system is no longer fitted. On the occasions I ran it by accident, the outlet side of the drier/filter was open to atmosphere ( it had a push on hose connector) so the compressor simply blew the air through it and out the open end. The air intake was behind one of the headlights, with a K&n filter fitted to it, rubber hose to the oiler unit, nother rubber hose to the inlet side of the compressor, rubber hose from the outlet to the filter drier and then the connection for the air line
  10. NRC8044 & NRC8045 are the fronts as far as I know and they will fit all years. There has been a number of different rears over the years and a lot depends on whether your vehicle has self levelling suspension fitted. At the moment I am running a pair of variable rate RKB101111 (colour code brown/purple) on the back of my 1984 110 CSW as opposed to the previous handed springs NRC6389 (red/red I think) NRC6904 (red/green) There is a subsequent set as fitted to post 2006 vehicles and they are green/white I think. A thing to bear in mind is that the later vehicles were only intended to carry 7 passengers rather than 12
  11. I doubt if Land Rover have ever sold any of them but they make such an article. Handed naturally MWC1058 mwc1059 http://www.brit-car.co.uk/search.php?query=mwc1058&xBrand=&part_type=&xSupplierID=&product-sort=&xPerPage=10
  12. Presumably the police have an idea of who 42 crew is or maybe they can trace the computer/phone from whence the image was uploaded? I remember when I was looking for a 300 tdi to fit to my truck. The number on offer without engine numbers was ridiculous. Sad to say that the thieves have a market for this stuff and it is owners of Land Rovers. Sorry but if you buy an engine without a number you know you are buying stolen goods and have no grounds for complaint if somebody subsequently nicks your vehicle
  13. In response to your questions I have fitted an AC compressor, without an air tank. It didn't cause any problems. I didn't fit a PRV and even on the couple of occasions where I turned it on inadvertently there were no problems. It is an open system and the air simply vented to atmosphere via the drier/oil filter unit. I had a small K&N filter on the intake, an inline oiler, the compressor, drier/filter and connection point for an airline
  14. That is quite a lot of silver paint.
  15. http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/news/thieves-steal-doors-and-bonnet-from-a-police-land-rover/ar-AAifWQ3?ocid=spartanntp#image=23 On a more serious note, time to lock the wild dog inside the car
  16. I have used this and it is utterly wonderful. http://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/sealing-compound-elring-dirko-s-c2x20634602
  17. At the moment I have a 110 with a V8. The exhaust manifolds are double S and are a complete load of Carp. The Y pipe was a special manufactured by PD Gough because the Double S item was an even worse piece of junk than the manifolds. The Centre box is TD5 with a custom inlet pipe (to clear the extended sump on the transfer box) and the tail pipe is TD5. at tickover and round town it is a nicely civilised system. However when I am a little more enthusiastic, it can build up quite a nice roar. Not loud, but nice. Previously it had a different V8 with custom made Y pipe fitted to RR manifolds a TD5 middle box and a TD5 tail pipe with the resonator removed. Made no obvious difference to the sound levels. One of the manifolds has a split at one of the welds so I will be removing both of them in the not too distant future. if you are interested...........
  18. Maybe this can aid you in your search. http://www.landroverseries.org/paint-codes.htm http://www.landrovercentre.com/listings/ndh789j/
  19. Difficult to believe but they all looked like this at one time. http://turner-engineering.co.uk/images/diesel2_5_1.jpg
  20. From memory (sepia tinted) when I first bought a new Land Rover I had a similar thing happen. It was sorted by changing the relay from this http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/95329/0/flasher_relay_standard_discovery_1___defender__94my_ to this. http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/225380/0/flasher_unit_with_trailer_heavy_duty___range_rover_classic___defender Earlier variants used something like this. http://www.brit-car.co.uk/product.php/93242/0/flasher_unit_2_pin_series_111___defender
  21. Tried a similar experiment and had similar results. Might be worth your while to ring somebody like P.A. Blanchards or Dunsfold Land Rover. They will be able to help you out. Beware, Blanchards can be a bit grumpy on the phone sometimes
  22. I have had a set of the Ashcroft items fitted for over 10 years without any problems whatsoever
  23. Does anybody know the difference between the exhaust manifolds for the 40D engines and the others? 40D part Nos are ETC5809 & ETC5811 other models are either ERR3454 & ERR3455 or ERR5023 & ERR5024
  24. The rear "silencer" doesn't do any silencing, it is a resonator and simply removes some of the resonant frequencies. I did this on a previous V8 fitted with a td5 centre box
  25. Err I can't remember the last time I turned my wireless on. I am fortunate though, I have a V8 to provide me with a whole symphony, from the gurgling sounds in the petrol tank (think draining bath plughole type noises) to the leaking exhaust that has resisted all attempts to seal it over the last 6 years and the delightful whooshy V8 type noises
