  1. Typically most galvanisers will do it on a weight basis and with a minimum fee of say 75 pounds, but you would be surprised just how much you can get done within those limits. I had every single capping on a lightweight, the bumper, bumperettes, windscreen frame, 110 front bumper, door waist line cappings (early 110 with 2 piece doors) rear tub cappings and a pair of rear bumperettes all done within the minimum price/weight limit. This was at a place in Corby
  2. The original petrol system on the early vehicles was all imperial, UNF I think. If you can find an imperial/metric male/female adaptor in something like the Goodridge catalogue or at a local branch of Pirtek, you could fit the imperaial end of the adaptor into the filter housing then the metric thread on the hose into the other end of the adaptor. I have always found Pirtek to be very knowledgeable and helpful
  3. It is possible to stamp the number yourself. Or it was when I put a new chassis under an Airportable a few years ago. Back then you could simply drive to the local vehicle licensing office with your V5 and somebody would look the vehicle over. The fellow who inspected mine asked me if I had stamped the new chassis with the original number, looked at it to confirm and that was it. Of course these days it all has to be done via Swansea and I am still trying to convince them that they made a mistake when they sent me a new V5 where they have recorded my 110 as an 18 seat vehicle, this has been going on for 5 months and I am no further forward at all.
  4. It is a British standard colour in the same way as NATO green. The BS name for it is stone
  5. I agree, When I was running my V8 in the USA the cost of fuel was so cheap it was silly. I imagine the price has probably gone down since then as well. There are not many V8 Defenders, the factory standardised on the Tdi at some time around 1994, after that the V8 was only available as a special order. One good thing about pretty much any V8 is that they will probably be lower mileage than a contemporary coal burner. It is worth a look on Ebay, both in the US and UK, reasonable V8s seem to pop up quite frequently, though beware, there are some really nasty ones offered as well
