  1. white/slate goes to low fuel level warning light. Petrol fuel pump is plain white White/purple goes to the coil on a petrol engine https://www.landroverweb.com/Pdf-files/Manuals/Defender-90-110-workshop-manual-5.pdf https://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/cms/files/colour_code_for_vehicle_wiring_-_new_order_2.pdf
  2. the part No for the early seals was FTC3401 this updates to the part No given by Ralph.
  3. Back to the original photos of the calipers. Whereabouts are the bleed nipples on said calipers? Mine is a 1984 One_Ten. Originally fitted with solid discs. I managed to find a set of the spacers which go between the two halves of the caliper, fitted them and then fitted vented discs. During the intervening years I have changed hubs, stub axles and fitted a 300 Tdi front axle case. As it is now, it has the earlier BIG CV joints and early hubs/stubs etc. Point is, I don't think your calipers are 110 calipers.
  4. I had all sorts of leaks on my roof where the original factory sealant had failed. Used this and no subsequent leaks over the last 5 years. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/POLYURETHANE-CAR-BODY-PANEL-BODY-KIT-ADHESIVE-BONDING-SPOILER-T4-T5-SEALER-/371758495595?var=&hash=item952ec50529&redirect=mobile It is thinner than silicone sealant and can be brushed into gaps
  5. It is entirely possible that there is/was a standard NATO range of colours.
  6. Oddly enough the colours used by the British are all British standard colours. Things like bronze green, NATO green, Matt stone, fire engine red. Possibly, if the vehicles were painted before leaving the factory, at least one of them could be a BS colour. https://www.paragonpaints.co.uk/BS381C-Colours.html https://www.militaryvehiclepaint.co.uk/index.php https://paintman.co.uk/product-category/coach-enamel-paint/british-standard-colours/
  7. As a former colleague opined many years ago. Cars are no longer marketed or advertised as transport. They are more like jewellery. When did you last see an advert for a car which mentioned things like the engine, gearbox, fuel economy, carrying capacity or anything remotely practical? More typically the adverts depict the car as a lifestyle accessory, possibly mentioning the onboard camera, the infotainment system and pretty much bugger all else
  8. Or there is this. https://www.allisport.com/shop/performance-products/heater-matrix/allisport-land-rover-defender-high-output-heater-matrix/

  10. Presuming the box is still in the vehicle, engage diff lock and apply hand brake
  11. Difference being if you break a leaf spring it is possible to carry out a repair that will get you home. Break a coil and repair is not a possibility. I remember reading in an old magazine about a temporary fix of a leaf spring still being in place a year later and the vehicle still being in daily use.
  12. If you are that upset about it, return the head and request a refund.
  13. I wouldn't bother fitting them. Yes it means you also have to fit the earlier type hub seal but at least without the stub axle seal you get better lubrication of the wheel bearings and drive flanges.
  14. .With reference to export licence requirement. http://www.milweb.net/features/military_vehicle_export_licence.php http://armyuk.info/export.php Here is a land rover similar to the vehicle you would like to export, included in the listing is the type of export licence you might require. http://armyuk.info/equip.php?ID=315
  15. Having imported a 1984 Land Rover into the US. From experience, once the vehicle is over 25 years of age a lot of the regulations no longer apply. However one that it is worth mentioning is the requirement for the engine. It must be either: The original engine An engine of the same type as the original engine Or An engine that has passed USA epa emission tests. I took a CSW, which had originally been equipped with a 3.5 V8, carb engine into the country, however I managed to get it in with a 4.2 V8 engine under the bonnet. I had fitted it with carbs but it would have qualified under either of the regs other than original engine. The relevant paperwork is readily available from the relevant US govt department and relatively easy to complete. Oh and because it is an ex military vehicle you will probably require an export licence from UK government. It might be worth your while to contact either P.A. Blanchard or L. Jackson. https://www.pablanchard.co.uk http://mob.ljacksonandco.com/logistics.html As mentioned above 19J engines were not fitted to military vehicles. The 12J and 11J engines are the same basic type though there are some surprising differences, internally.
  16. You could always try SEP in Kegworth and have it refinished to its original size.
  17. The one I used was stop leak. It was effective at repairing a small leak where the soldered joint had failed (on a new radiator) at the neck of the filler plug. Only until I could return the radiator though. As luck would have it there must still have been enough of it swilling around the system to seal a subsequent leak in the replacement rad. This was where a nut (securing one of the horns) had rubbed a hole in it. I managed to find a place willing to carry out a soldered repair.
  18. Given the reduction in police numbers I would imagine you could get away with fitting pretty much anything you like. When did you last see a police traffic car on a motorway, or anywhere else for that matter?
  19. Worth having a look here as well. https://www.etyres.co.uk/how-to-change-your-tyre-size/
  20. Had Bilsteins on for 10 years. Apart from the bushes needing to be replaced a couple of times I have had no problems with them. Despite loading the truck to the eyeballs with logs and towing a similarly laden trailer. Nice controlled ride, used in conjunction with standard Land Rover TD5 CSW springs
  21. Interesting that the anti tank weapon in the foreground looks a lot like a Carl Gustav 84mm. http://car-from-uk.com/ebay/carphotos/full/ebay918200.jpg http://www.warwheels.net/images/LandyDefenderRSOVdemoyoung (8).JPG If you type rsov images in www.duckduckgo.com it brings up lots of images.
  22. Sounds like the answer to a maiden's prayer. I have a cut in my dash top that has irritated me for ages. Might well give this a go. The instructions seem fairly comprehensive.
  23. So they are going to build 25-30,000 vehicles a year and start selling them next year, but they haven't decided where they will be building them yet. Pie in the sky?
