  1. I have seen an ad for Xennon lights for a Defender but could see no "Self Levelling". When the lights are turned on the lights should be self levelled by a motor to ensure that they don't dazzle. They don't do it as you drive. They start low, move up to a high possition then return to a lower "Levelled" position. Not convinced about the self cleaning, my BM only had manual electric water jets. Marc.
  2. Thanks Les, Brill as usual, I am just considering this though I may be removing the old seats from a Series axle for more work! Didn't think Brakes had points?? As the suspension is the same it is arguably the same as just replacing an axle. No way DVLA would agree I know. As I keep griping, I have looked at Classic Ford, Total Off Road and Custom Car mags and all the modified motors in them are ilegal on the SVA points system. Marc.
  3. Yup, Scum did my S1 by cutting the filler pipe (S11 tank and Audi side filler fitted) cost to fix £30 plus half a day, fuel nicked £5. Marc.
  4. I hate website that won't show a price just call for info etc. It's not a bloody secret? I'm glade that this topic was created as I was going to start it myself as I have seen a few of these on the motorway recently. They look the business at night with the low profile soft top fitted, just like a chopped roof jobbie Marc.
  5. Aha, Maybe thats why I can't find mine as I keep looking in the standard place Marc.
  6. Why not use RRC Imperial axle parts? Marc.
  7. I had a look at my BMW Diesel car the other day and it seems to have a valve that puts excess inlet manifold pressure into the exhaust just in front of the Turbo so I assumed that it would keep it spinning when on a trailing throttle?? Marc.
  8. Unitil Fridge answers you I will jump in with my small knowledge from past threads. Fridge's motor has Portal Axles and used to run it with out arches which looked well good but can't have been legal?? Look for his posts/gallery or the House of Flying Spanners to find it. Marc.
  9. If you are lucky Dave Ashcroft (Ashtrans) will answer, if not why not just call him as they will know. * Email: info@ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk * Phone: 01582 496040 * Fax: 01582 595040 Marc.
  10. Swear word on here they are form Scrapiron Racing among others. Just look at any LR magazine. Not promoting them but a question was asked and it would be bad manners not to answer him. Marc.
  11. Trouble is they were fitted to anything from and Austin to an Aston!!!! OK in the Seventies but badly dated now. Marc.
  12. No Windscreen needed, look at the track day Lotus Seven copies. If you have a windscreen you must have wipers and washers, no windscreen no wipers and washers. This also applies when the windscreen is folded flat. Some people have got around faulty washers and wipers in an MOT by folding the screen flat and the problem goes away. As for the goggles and helmet pure fantasy sorry. Don't know about a bumper but my Series 1 has not had one for 25 years and passes an MOT every time and has never been stopped by the law. It does however have a piece of box welded between the dumb irons like a bumper so that might do it legally? Marc.
  13. I could tell when my handbrake was left on in the hybred as when slowing down/coming to a halt the front prop(sounds from the front anyway?) would start making a clattering sound and the LR would shudder a bit. As I have n LT95 I guess the constant forgetting helped to kill the transfer box bearings. If it was a one off probably no real damage caused. Marc.
  14. To be honest they look kinked? Marc.
  15. I looked at the Forestry Commission website to see if any forests nearer me offered the same deal. The website listed all the forests and some including Kileder showed that they had a "Forest Drive" unfortunately the website did not explain what that was. Is this what you are offering or is a Forest Drive something completely different?? Cheers, Marc.
  16. Loved the look of the forrest tracks, not outragous but fun and interesting. When I used to comp safari these were my favourite courses. Thanks for the link I will have to look into these. Marc.
  17. Some LR pics from page 2. Not uncommon it seems?? Marc.
  18. Excellent great find thanks for letting us know. My fave bits: Where the guy fixing the diff hits his head on the the hi-lift handle as he did not put it up to vertical (thunk). But the best bit has to be the water coming out of the air vents and over the windows Cheers again, Marc.
  19. You couldn't do worse than Bowler. If anyone recalls they had an off road course (all of which are embarrasing) and decided to use a Factory driven Bowler to show how fast a proper tool can be. Unfortunately it was not waterproofed, when it got to the puddle it conked out and failed to finish. Marc.
  20. In a similar vein. When I started off roading I bought the best road legal mud tyres at the time SATs. However I noticed lots of Forestry Land Rovers with the front tyres on backwards and was confused. The reasoning was that SATs on the right way round on all wheels would get you so far into the muck that you had no chance of getting out. If the front tyres were the wrong way round then you would not get so far forward but you could get out in reverse and try another route. Marc.
  21. This is a Brill Thread. How do you get it put in the Technical Section?? Marc.
  22. Voted, good luck. Don't quite understand the voting though, you can vote everyday, so its more than just popularity its about persistance as well. Marc.
  23. I must admit that my initial view was that TATA should pay, but Philip is right, since most UK companies that can move to India are already doing so to save money, and TATA is already there then why would they keep LR in the UK at more expense. Lets face it Wales had to pay companies to bring their offices and factories there with Tax Incentives. All the motor manufacturers play the government investment game to reduce costs, its the only reason that we have any motor industry left. Marc.
